Re: Heart (the band)

They've recorded some great songs over the years. Enough that I'll forgive them for "All I Want to Do Is Make Love to You".

Lex

Yeah.

It was the horrible 'MTV remake' of the band.....

Just dreadful, but sold thousands of records.... go figure.

These days, they have thankfully returned to their roots, and those of us that were fans in the 70's and 80's have our 'Ann and Nancy' back...

Re: Heart (the band)

And why is no one commenting on Nancy's guitar playing? It's the combination of Ann's voice and Nancy's playing that given me the the big thrill when I listen to Heart. Otherwise, I'd be quoting lyrics from "Just Like Paradise", to soundtrack song she did with the lead singer of Loverboy ("Everybody's Working for the Weekend").

Re: Heart (the band)

And why isn't someone starting a thread about Male Arena Rock Bands? Journey, Foriegner, Van Halen... all the wonderful spandex, skin tight jeans and male camel-toe....

Re: Heart (the band)

I sort of think of her as the 'female Robert Plant'. She can wail with the best of them... When that voice of hers gets cranked up, it's like a force of nature. Amazing stuff.

Thats exactly what I thought when I first heard her sing. Heart's covers of Stairway to Heaven are amazing, and I really like what Ann did with Immigrant Song on her new album.

How about the greatest one of them all, Queen? Even though I think they're on a much higher level than most of the arena bands were.

/off topic.

Re: Heart (the band)

I didn't think of Queen because of the automatic tragedy element attached. But, still no one is commenting on Nancy's playing. Are you just pissed about "These Dreams" or something?

Re: Heart (the band)

Their first album was their best. I love every songs.
I think I caught her on one of the show on Dish Network and she was still amazing. Her voice was still as strong as ever.
And you know that she wasn't lip synching either... Hear that
Ashlee Simpson....

Re: Heart (the band)

This one time me and my friend Miranda broke into song at a coffee shop... "Whaaat about love? Don'tchu want someone to care 'bout youuuu?"

My mom bought me the album with that single. She found it at a garage sale. I like listening to it once in awhile.

Re: Heart (the band)

Magic Man is one of my favorite songs EVER!!!!

Re: Heart (the band)

Here's a video of a performance they did last week. Freakin' amazing. Especially when you consider that Ann is 57, Nancy is 54 and they recorded this song over 30 years ago.

Ann makes it a rule to sing all of their songs in the original keys!

Thanks for the video. That was amazing. Her voice hasn't changed one bit and I love that song too.

Besides being an amazing guitar player, Nancy also is the music writer in the Ann and Nancy songwriting team--Ann is 90% a lyricist. She also produced their last album, Jupiter's Darling.

Thanks so much for the video and thanks so much for the response. I hated being left hanging like that. Heart to me is Ann AND Nancy and I really wanted her recognized as well.

In addition to her guitar, I absolutely love her mandolin playing too. Sylvan Song/Dream of the Archer is brilliant. :gogirl:

Re: Heart (the band)

I really like "Bebe Le Strange" off the Greatest Hits/Live double album.

I wish the radio would play "Kick It Out" like they used to.

Re: Heart (the band)

Besides having the greatest voice I think Anne can also play instruments as well, I saw her playing guitar and flute in one of their concert on TV.

Do you have Nancy's solo cd Live at McCabe's? Just her doing a solo show (with two backup singers) in a guitar store. She does some Heart stuff, some covers and originals. She does one or two songs on mandolin as well.

Her two main instruments are flute and bass. She actually plays the flute quite often--at least once per album and usually two or three songs in concert. She's also been known to play piano and drums.

Re: Heart (the band)

My favorite is These Dreams (lead vocals by Nancy)

Re: Heart (the band)

With all these threads about female classic rock icons, I wish they could have some sort of fest with them all, maybe even with duets. I imagine Lindsey Buckingham and Nancy Wilson rocking out on some song with Ann Wilson and Grace Slick dueting vocals or something on that legendary scale. But who could right a song worth of that much legendary power. Call me goofy, but I can't help but think outside the box.
