If that's true, then it's such a shame that we'll be robbed of the opportunity to see it on the big screen in a dark auditorium with dozens of other nervy moviegoers! Although I'm glad that it's seeing the light of day (or should that be dark of night...?) at least.

"Rosemary's Baby" is another one that sneaks up on you.

I didn't think it was possible to be scared by it. "That old film ? Please...."

But boy, it works. Dated as it is it really stays with you. No gore, no slashers, not even a monster... Just your own imagination, which can be far scarier than anything put on film.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre (old one)

You know I've always wondered whether that "true" video at the end was actually real or not. If it was... (shiver) :(

THE DESCENT SCARED THE FUCK OUTTA ME (in theaters at least)

I loved that film, though I watched it from home so I may have missed out on the experience a little. Funnily enough though the bit that scared me the most was the realistic parts, most especially where (spoiler) the girl got stuck in the narrow tunnel and started panicking. She could easily have got stuck badly enough to die in there, about the worst death I can think of. That's why I'm now terrified of caving. :(

I'm in two minds about The Strangers, which I saw recently. I really really enjoyed it, very scary and exciting, right up until the end, where (spoiler) they completely ruined the film for me by leaving it as a cliffhanger. Nobody knows what happens because apparently the conclusion of the crimes was never found. And what annoys me even more is that I've read that it isn't even based on one true story, it's inspired by three different murder sequences. I was just so annoyed that everything was going really well, and I was getting so into the story, and then it stops suddenly, and the film's over. :(

Definitely The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The original was cool, but the 2003 remake kicks ass. Sure it may not be a classic or anything but I loved the cast, and the way it looked, and the sound of a running chainsaw always scares the shit out of me

Also, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning.

Need I say more?

haha i saw this thread and this was basically my thought process

i like how you think ..|

I broke down and ordered The Creature From the Black Lagoon yesterday.

I watched that in 3D many years ago when it came to a theatre here in Peterborough. (The glasses had one green lens and one red lens.)

It was very interesting. Not 'in-your-face' 3D the way the movies are these days.

Another vote for [REC]
Also Alien, Silence of the Lambs, Se7en, American Psycho (comedy?), 28 Days Later

The very first movie I ever owned on video was the original Night of the Living Dead. I still consider it one of the greatest horror films ever made. Event Horizon scared the shit out of me when I saw it in the theater, and I haven't been able to watch it since. The other two films that really scare the shit out of me are The Blair Witch Project and The Ring.

If you can get your hands on it, there's a great Spanish thriller called Tesis. It's all about snuff films. Creepy shit.

Also, the original Korean version of The Eye is terrific. I refuse to watch the American remake.

Love horror! Heres some of my faves --

Nightmare on elm street saga
Friday the 13th saga
Resident Evil trilogy
Quarantine (REC remake)
Night, Day, Dawn, Land & Diary of the Dead (Romero)
Dracula (1931)
Nosferatu
The Grudge films
Texas Chainsaw
Creep
and lots more.......!

Halloween (original)
The Haunting (original)
28 Days Later and most other good zombie movies
Dead Alive (aka Braindead)
Let the Right One In
Jaws
The Shining
Friday the 13th
The Thing
The Brood
Misery
Black Christmas (original)
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original)

I also love Hitchcock, but don't really consider his movies horror.

^ the thing!!

i loved 'em both. :)

and i loved alien.

I just watched the movie Orphan. I was surprised at how good of a movie it was. It wasn't really scary, but I love that sadistic girl lol

If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it.
(Random though, the main female character's husband was a hottie!)

A recent new favorite is Drag Me to Hell. It is a refreshingly original horror story that also is incredibly fun to watch.

Easy--The Exorcist. Scared the bejesus out of me. But I held tough and made it through. Now I can watch anything.

Also:

Audition

Silence of the Lambs

Seven

Drag Me to Hell

I don't know why, but the only horror movie which succeeded in chickening me out was actually the original The Omen. Maybe it's because I was still 7 when I watched that.
