Re: Janis Joplin

I don't know much of Janis' music, but she's one of the artists that I really look forward to getting to know. She's just so passionate about her music it seems impossible to not be moved by it.

google officialjanis.com and you can read stories about janis from people that were around her when she lived in the haight/asbury area of san francisco in 1967. go to the "i was there" section of the forum to read postings of some of her old friends and neighbors. the website is run by her younger brother michael joplin.

Re: Janis Joplin

Zooey Deschanel is going to play Janis in the upcoming biopic that's shooting right now. She'll be doing her own singing. I can't wait for it I'm sure it'll be amazing!

i always thought patty duke could play janis in her younger years. patty put her heart and soul in any part she played. patty is in her sixty's now so it's too late now. just my thought.

Re: Janis Joplin

Yeah, Janis was awesome. Original vocals that were so gravelly and so good. Gotta love those rock chicks!

Re: Janis Joplin

Man was she talented , I would have loved to have rocked with her.

Re: Janis Joplin

Piece of My Heart
Cry Baby
Thought yall needed some new ones.

Re: Janis Joplin

if you guys want to see a personal side of janis there is a dvd out called "festival express", a documentary that happen in 1970 where janis and other rock groups traveled across canada on a train giving small concerts along the way. it shows great footage of her hanging out with other rock entertainers on a 2 or 3 day trip across canada. it's about 2 hours long and janis is really the 'star' of this film. it shows what a "sweet" bad girl she was. my local library has it and i check it out when i need a janis fix.

Re: Janis Joplin

want to bump this thread to drum up some more janis fans

Re: Janis Joplin

Janis cannot be captured in a movie portrayal I think - she was larger than life (although a very small person) -

on ef my favorite Janis stories is maybe in 710r 72 I took a date to a twin bill, Monteray Pop (which I had already seen like six times already at th theatre) and Joe. The footage of Janis was for some reason incredibly chopped on the reels the local theatre had for this showing and it was impossible to follow her performance, get the feel of how stunning it was. Yet when Ball and Chain was over the young folks in the crowd stood and cheered -

the older couple behind us, the guy turns to his wife and says, "I don't know, but the like her I guess."

oh hell yeah we loved her, we still do.

If the play Love, Janis comes around, see it - Laura and Michael did a great job of assembling that from Janis' letters to her family in the years before she died.

i agree, no one i can think of can capture janis as she was. bette midler did "the rose" about 25 years ago which was loosely based on janis but the movie was terrible. i hope michael & laura joplin get to have input on any movie made about janis.

Re: Janis Joplin

I don't have the words to explain to the younger people the influence that Janis Joplin had on my generation..I was lucky to see her in London at the Albert Hall whenI was working there in 1969 when she was singing with Big Brother...you can't express words about that show..but after her death when they released "Pearl" we realised what we had lost..it was heartbreaking..even now it upsets me. They will never capture her spirit in a movie..& we are lucky enough to have documenteries & videos & cd's & LP's to remember her...she was one in a million......cheers to Janis:=D: :=D: :=D: :=D: :=D: :=D: :=D:

Re: Janis Joplin

your right grazie, i feel the same way about her. i was very young living in monterey, calif when she performed at monterey pop festival june 1967. her influence that summer on the hippie youth and the "summer of love" is something you can't put into words. we were raised on bubble gum rock & roll [beach boys, ricky nelson} and our parents approved of them for the most part. then here comes janis, wild, loud, feathers hanging out of her hair and lyric that were outrageous, the grown-ups just couldn't buy into her and the media was very hard on her, no wonder she could sing the blues. she will have a 'piece of my heart' forever.

Re: Janis Joplin

That's a voice that would peel the paint off the walls.

Re: Janis Joplin

will bump janis's thread today because she would have been 64 years old today---born jan 19, 1943

Re: Janis Joplin

Janis & Jimmy, dirt weed, black lights incense peppermints &.....wouldn't it be cool to go back again?

One Fav from Janis: Cry Baby

Cry baby, cry baby, cry baby,
Honey, welcome back home.

I know she told you,
Honey I know she told you that she loved you
Much more than I did,
But all I know is that she left you,
And you swear that you just don’t know why,
But you know, honey I’ll always,
I’ll always be around if you ever want me
Come on and cry, cry baby, cry baby, cry baby,
Oh honey, welcome back home.

Don’t you know, honey,
Ain’t nobody ever gonna love you
The way I try to do ?
Who’ll take all your pain,
Honey, your heartache, too ?
And if you need me, you know
That I’ll always be around if you ever want me
Come on and cry, cry baby, cry baby, cry baby,
Oh daddy, like you always saying to do.

And when you walk around the world, babe,
You said you’d try to look for the end of the road,
You might find out later that the road’ll end in Detroit,
Honey, the road’ll even end in Kathmandu.
You can go all around the world
Trying to find something to do with your life, baby,
When you only gotta do one thing well,
You only gotta do one thing well to make it in this world, babe.
You got a woman waiting for you there,
All you ever gotta do is be a good man one time to one woman
And that’ll be the end of the road, babe,
I know you got more tears to share, babe,
So come on, come on, come on, come on, come on,
And cry, cry baby, cry baby, cry baby.

And if you ever feel a little lonely, dear,
I want you to come on, come on to your mama now,
And if you ever want a little love of a woman
Come on and baby baby baby babe babe baby now
Cry baby yeah.

Re: Janis Joplin

damn I love Janis

"Kozmic Blues"

Time keeps movin’ on,
Friends they turn away.
I keep movin’ on
But I never found out why
I keep pushing so hard the dream,
I keep tryin’ to make it right
Through another lonely day, whoaa.

Dawn has come at last,
Twenty-five years, honey just in one night, oh yeah.
Well, I’m twenty-five years older now
So I know we can’t be right
And I’m no better, baby,
And I can’t help you no more
Than I did when just a girl.

Aww, but it don’t make no difference, baby, no, no,
And I know that I could always try.
It don’t make no difference, baby, yeah,
I better hold it now,
I better need it, yeah,
I better use it till the day I die, whoa.

Don’t expect any answers, dear,
For I know that they don’t come with age, no, no.
Well, ain’t never gonna love you any better, babe.
And I’m never gonna love you right,
So you’d better take it now, right now.

Oh! But it don’t make no difference, babe, hey,
And I know that I could always try.
There’s a fire inside everyone of us,
You’d better need it now,
I got to hold it, yeah,
I better use it till the day I die.

Don’t make no difference, babe, no, no, no,
And it never ever will, hey,
I wanna talk about a little bit of loving, yeah,
I got to hold it, baby,
I’m gonna need it now,
I’m gonna use it, say, aaaah,

Don’t make no difference, babe, yeah,
Ah honey, I’d hate to be the one.
I said you’re gonna live your life
And you’re gonna love your life
Or babe, someday you’re gonna have to cry.
Yes indeed, yes indeed, yes indeed,
Ah, baby, yes indeed.

I said you, you’re always gonna hurt me,
I said you’re always gonna let me down,
I said everywhere, every day, every day
And every way, every way.
Ah honey won’t you hold on to what’s gonna move.
I said it’s gonna disappear when you turn your back.
I said you know it ain’t gonna be there
When you wanna reach out and grab on.

Whoa babe,
Whoa babe,
Whoa babe,
Oh but keep truckin’ on.
Whoa yeah,
Whoa yeah,
Whoa yeah,
Whoa,
Whoa,
Whoa,
Whoa,
Whoa ...

Re: Janis Joplin

In this world, if you read the papers, lord,
You know everybody's fighting on with each other.
You got no one you can count on, baby,
Not even your own brother.
So if someone comes along,
He's gonna give you some love and affection
I'd say get it while you can, yeah!
Honey, get it while you can,
Hey, hey, get it while you can,
Don't you turn your back on love, no, no!

Don't you know when you're loving anybody, baby,
You're taking a gamble on a little sorrow,
But then who cares, baby,
'cause we may not be here tomorrow, no.
And if anybody should come along,
He gonna give you any love and affection,
I'd say get it while you can, yeah!
Hey, hey, get it while you can,
Hey, hey, get it while you can.
Don't you turn your back on love,
No no no, no no no no no.

Oh, get it while you can,
Honey get it when you're gonna wanna need it dear, yeah yeah,
Hey hey, get it while you can,
Don't you turn your back on love,
No no no, no no no no, get it while you can,
I said hold on to somebody when you get a little lonely, dear,
Hey hey, hold on to that man's heart,
Yeah, get it, want it, hold it, need it,
Get it, want it, need it, hold it,
Get it while you can, yeah,
Honey get it while you can, baby, yeah,
Hey hey, get it while you can!
