Re: Fans of Janis Joplin, this thread is for you

U didn't know? Didn't the lyrics "I've only been here for 27 years" strike u as odd coming from a 2(4?) year old? And Southern Comfort? Everybody knows that's janis' shit. I've never tried it though.

#-o--I learn something everyday-- but stay away from that SC--it will make you crazy!!

Love Janis!

Her best songs for me are Maybe, Try, Down on Me, Bye Bye Baby, and Mercedez Benz.

The closest we have to Janis now is P!nk and Joss Stone.

Re: Fans of Janis Joplin, this thread is for you

SoCo is a glorious creation. Technically speaking it is the nastiest, trashiest peach bourbon whiskey ever created. So trashy its' not even really whiskey.

That said, it's DELICIOUS. With coke, orange juice, lime, straight up, however.

...I swear I don't drink that much.

Re: Janis Joplin

i'm bumping this thread a few days before janis' birthday [jan 19] to show respect to her and her music. also so the young guys can read alittle about her.

Re: Janis Joplin

She was incredible...specially live! She's one of those vocalists that truly at their best performing live...studio singah she ain't!

Re: Janis Joplin

I Just Adore Janis!! SHe had such an emotional voice, you could feel her pain, such a shame she died. but there isnt any doubt in my mind she changed the face of music. she made it ok for Females to RocK!!

RIP Janis!! we all love you!

Re: Janis Joplin

my family lived in the monterey bay area in 1967 [summer of love] and as a kid i remember the effect she had on the youth that summer, the adults hated her, i didn't dare say i liked her around any grown up, janis had a good reason to sing the blues.

Re: Janis Joplin

Did u get to see her performance at Monterey Pop, where she had the lead singer of the Mamas & the Papas in awe? I'd have given my left nut.

A guy I used to work with said, for $5, he saw BB King, Ike & Tina, and Janis back in those days. I'd have given BOTH my nuts.

hi marley, no i didn't go to the festival that weekend but my older cousin did. he smoked pot with the cops [he said]. i wished i had 'stoled' the 1,000s of monterey pop posters nailed to every telephone post in town, it would be worth much today. i did see janis months later in front of her haight/asbury apt in san francisco. she was very much one of "the force" for the whole summer of love movement. that summer janis was still unknown and not the icon she is today.

Re: Janis Joplin

Leonard Cohen sings about JJ: "She was giving me head on an unmade bed"

Re: Janis Joplin

Someone mentioned "festival express," which is worth is just for the janis joplin clips alone. when I saw it in a theater, just a couple of years ago, people applauded. for me, it was about the fact that "I NEVER GOT TO SEE THAT."

One of the things about the whole "festival express" is that young people all across Canada didn't want to pay to see the festival!

Can you imagine what an idiot you'd feel like today if you DIDN'T go to those shows 'cause you didn't want to shell out the $25 bucks?

Re: Janis Joplin

festival express is a must see for anyone wanting to see the personal side of janis, her interacting with the grateful dead is priceless.

Re: Janis Joplin

bumping janis' thread, monday is her birthday, she would have been 66 years old. so sad we lost her so young [27].

Re: Janis Joplin

She could sing .... like an alley cat in heat.

Re: Janis Joplin

I agree, though sometimes I loathe that people use the term "screaming," what she did was sing overtones. Janis had an uncanny ability to sing not just two notes at the same time, but entire chords. I'm sure that in the future when pedagogy advances we'll find a way to do the same, and do it better, but she was one of the first.

In the spirit of rock and-or roll, hell yeah, the bitch could wail!

some tech guy that worked on some of her music said her voice registered 5 octives on some notes.

Re: Janis Joplin

i'm bumping this thread for janis, on tuesday [jan 19] she would have been 67 years old. she was the greatest rock/blues singer of all times, imho of course.
