Re: Pat Benatar

I have always loved Pat Benatar shes one of the grates and I remember watching the tv show on CMT called Crossroads it was her and Martina McBride they was singing each others songs and shes still got it after all these years

Re: Pat Benatar

I have the 7" of "Invincible" framed on my wall.

Re: Pat Benatar

Pat is many things, but a diva she ain't. She's a rocker.

I love lots of her songs - "Promises in the Dark", "Precious Time", "Looking for a Stranger", "I'm Gonna Follow You" - but I always thought "Invincible" was a pretty lame song, to be honest. I mean, "It's a do or die situation/We will be invincible"? Then it's not a do or die situation, is it? :)

Re: Pat Benatar

She is great! I particularly love the early stuff like Fire and Ice, and Treat Me Right. Those were the days when women could sing, before the talentless sluts like Ciccone and Spears.

Re: Pat Benatar

I love Pat! I actually lost my virginity while "Crimes of Passion" was playing, so it helps that I liked the album.;)

Madonna is not talentless. She is actually WAY talented, i dont know why people think she is untalented?

Anyways one of my favorite Pat benatar songs is Fire And Ice, i think its a very well written song, "you Come on like a flame/ then you turn a cold shoulder/ fire and ice" i have always loved that phrase

Re: Pat Benatar

God,

Me and the first BF used to love "In The Heat Of the Night", but enough about that..... ;)

That one and "Crimes of Passion" are great relics of the 80's

"Precious Time" was the last great one, IMO.

I hope they have finally been remastered for CD, the analog hiss used to ROAR on the early releases....

Re: Pat Benatar

Tropico isn't that great, IMHO. "We Belong" is a pleasant enough song, but it's ruined by the way-too-precise children's choir at the end. And it's hard to get excited about any album with a song called "Ooh Ooh Song". There's a few goodies on there - "Outlaw Blues" and "Painted Desert" are fine - but it's hit and miss.

Re: Pat Benatar

who here is a fan? my favorite album is Get Nervous which features Shadows of the night, Anxiety, and Little too late. She is a TRUE diva... unlike these fake bitches we got such as britney and Jlo who use computers to alter their voice. She has natural talent.. anyone else a fan?

I'm a huge fan of Pat. Got all her CDs. except the last one "Go"
I love her "In the heat of the night through Seven the hard way" Cd
Strawberry wine was a really good song. I was surprised that it wasn't a major hit.
I really hope she has a new material out soon.
I thought her husband was so hot in the beginning of her career. He kind of let himself go after that.

I read somewhere that she doesn't really care for that song. She said I don't want to sing a song that start with Ooh you give me a fever tonight... something like that. I thought the song was pretty catchy.

Re: Pat Benatar

Her best song (even better than her classic hits) was Painted Desert. I got her compilation Synchronistic Wanderings and it has a bunch of liner notes. She said she found out she was pregnant while shooting the video for Painted Desert.

Great voice on that woman. You do know she was trained as an opera singer at a young age, right?

Re: Pat Benatar

2.When you lost ur virginity to crimes of passion.. was it to the vinyl release? i have two copies of that.. i played that so much that i had to order another copy from ebay... and i had to get my needle replaced on the turntable that i was using...
It was playing in another room, so I have no idea.

Re: Pat Benatar

Wide awake in dreamland was a really good album.
I love. All fired up. Too long a soldier. Cerebral man. Lift 'em on up. Not the radio material well except All fired up but they all have catchy melody.

Re: Pat Benatar

not a die-hard fan, but yeah she's got some good stuff. i remember growin up my sister and her friends do the dance routines from "Love is a Battlefield". for some reason i find myself singing the line "so you're a real tough cookie with the long history"....like randomly. i could just be sittin somewhere chillin and it just pops outta me.

Re: Pat Benatar

I really do love Pat Benatar but, sadly I don't own a lot by her. I'll have to fix that!

There are some recent performances on youtube. She still puts on a hell of a show! And, laysmutual is right, she did have a decent amount of vocal training when she was younger, but just decided that it wasn't where she wanted to go with her music.

And, you can add me to the bandwagon that does not think Madonna is musically talented. She can dance and makes a lot of good decisions concerning her career, but that's about it. But, I don't get why people try to compare women like Madonna and Britney Spears to women like Pat Benatar, Stevie Nicks or Ann Wilson--they are completely different styles of music.

Re: Pat Benatar

Actually, Madonna and Pat are somewhat similar in my book. Both are singers, first and foremost. Neither plays an instrument (although Madonna can futz around on the drums OK). Both wrote songs, although both relied strongly on collaborators for their best work. Pat clearly has a stronger voice (or used to, at any rate), and obviously was better doing harder material. Madonna did poppier dancier numbers.

Re: Pat Benatar

I've always associated Pat Benatar more with Blondie. There is one song, I think it's Call Me, where I get confused in the first few verses as to which of them is singing.

Re: Pat Benatar

True dat. In 1980, Blondie and Pat Benatar weren't too far off. Pat was doing new wave songs like "We Live for Love" in addition to her rock, and "Call Me" was Blondie's attempt to rock out.* I can see people being confused by that one. But by 1981, Pat was firmly a rocker, and Blondie had continued on with their dilletantism ("The Tide Is High", "Rapture"). I doubt anyone confused them ever after that.

Lex

* - OK, "Call Me" was Giorgio Moroder's attempt to rock out. Blondie (the band) actually had nothing to do with that song. Debbie Harry just wrote new lyrics to GM's song, and provided the vocals.

Re: Pat Benatar

Yeah, that's a good song, but the video is SO over the top that it cracks me up....
I think that song came out around the same time as thriller and like a virgin if I remember correctly and MTV was playing nothing but music videos back then and dance videos was kind of in at that time and Love is a battlefield was more dance than rock, I even have Dance mixed 12" of that song. So, if you want your video to play non stop on MTV then just throw in some chorography in there.
