Re: R.I.P. Prince

Not to antagonize any fans but it appears there is a greater outpouring and tributes for Prince (and Bowie) than when Michael Jackson or Whitney Houston died.

Re: R.I.P. Prince

And if Prince died from aids, what's wrong with that?
Its nothing wrong at all.

Re: R.I.P. Prince

What in hell has gotten into some of you? Ugh. Too much drama.

Prince is a legend and American culture figure. Everybody knows who he is, even if Prince's music isn't their cup of tea. Prince did not have HIV, he most likely died of a powerful strain of flu or accidental overdose of painkillers due to hip pain from years of dancing. Regardless, he was and always will be one of the greats. Each album he released was different than the one before and Prince kept relevant with his evolution and influence on other singers. Not many people realize that he released 39 studio albums in his 38-year career. That's almost a new album each year (he did not release a studio album in 1983, 1993, 1997, 2000, 2005, 2008, 2011, 2012, 2013 or 2016, however). I hope Warner Bros will re-releaae Prince's albums, as most of them are hard to come by and some are out of print. I would love to own the Diamonds and Pearls album, amongst others, it's my favorite of his.

Re: R.I.P. Prince

Quick.

Name the most influential and widely heard piece of his music from the last 15 years.

Re: R.I.P. Prince

Nice try. 1991.

Re: R.I.P. Prince

Well someone at least finally remembered this entirely forgettable last major work by Prince from 2004.

Speak for yourself and yourself only. I don't know what makes you think ripping a celebrity or anyone in general is cool or why you continue to downplay everything, but it makes you look like an ass. Of course there's always got to be that somebody who is negative in light of someone's death. So what if he wasn't pro gay marriage or did narcotics because he was in pain, you're no better than him. In fact, he contributed a lot more than most of us have done or ever will in our lives. The only thing you've contributed so far, as evident by your posts, is blatant negativity that isn't necessary or cared about, because you have no facts to back up this odd claim that Prince wasn't successful and relevant in the past few years. What is with the bunch of you? If you don't like him, fine, then go out and attempt to make music and be "relevant", I'll laugh. 😒

To be fair he hadn't made a good album in years, not even a hit song, he's not the only one, Michael Jackson lost the knack for the last decade or so of his life as has Madonna, i don't know what happens to artists that have huge success and million seller records and then they can't write a hit song for love nor money.

Still at least the three of them have left brilliant back catalogues.

Just because older artists don't have hit after hit anymore, doesn't mean they should lie down and die (no pun intended). The reason why they don't sell much or have many hits is because their music is not aimed at a younger market, a market that is buying up Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Beyonce, etc. The youth of our time aren't interested in music that is written by the singers themselves and thoroughly arranged, they want the typical generic pop, which is mostly crap nowadays and overworked/autotuned. Prince made his music to express his in-depth creativity and ever-evolving musical style, whether or not it sold big. People focus too much on what these singers don't accomplish instead of what they have accomplished.

Re: R.I.P. Prince

Prince was not straight that is a fact the black American community is homophobic they would never accept him if he came out. The truth will come out about Prince being HIV positive it is only a matter of time.

Morrissey is right. It is now being reported that Prince was diagnosed with full blown AIDS six months ago.

The typical generic pop that you denegrate is exactly what. Prince/Jackson/Madonna used to throw out left right and centre, and glorious stuff it is, the fact that the font dried up for them isn't down to fickle teenage fans but down to their inability to write a hit song anymore.

I blame it on him becoming a Jehovah's Witness.

Destroyed his creative flow.

He also lived in Toronto, Canada for awhile so that might have destroyed his creative juices as well.

And certainly holing up in Bumfuck, Minnesota didn't spark anything either.

But in his glory days.......he was an incredible talent.

And you are right about MJ and Madge too.....gurrrrrrrrrrrrrkkkkkkkkk.

Re: R.I.P. Prince

^ Maybe so, some seem to be happy to just rest on their laurels, and with that much money coming in the hunger must go.
