Final Fantasy, anyone ???

WOOHOOO

Finaly got the Wyrmhero blade in FF12. Damn, that took a long time, and the thing is pretty much useless when you get it, but I finally did it.:D

Hmm hmmm...just got my ass kicked by Addrammelech...Well, how the heck was I supposed to know that he would suddenly pop up in the Zerinan Fuckin Caverns ?! Oh these Espers are relly tough ! But that means I'll have that much more fun when I get them ! He's the first foe I've met so far that can use a Concurrence ! I'm pretty sure he Ark Blasted my team, or at least the animation was identical, except it didn't spell "Ark Blast" on screen. Even though he had way less HP than many bosses I've met so far, he must've had much, MUCH higher stats cos my Quickenings did little damage to him, and after I ran out of Quickenings he wiped my team out in seconds. We didn't even have time to use an Elixir or a pHoenix DOwn, dammit !!!

Question for Pushover : In the Sohen Cave whatever, how do I get to that room parallel to the room that I fought Ahriman in ? There's nothing connecting it witht he rest of the dungeon...and I suspect there could be an Esper in there ! (Like Zeromus is in that hidden room in the Stillshrine of Myriam ).

..By the way, what the heck were th programmers smoking when they created the Espers ? All those who I've met so far (4 in total) look more weird than impressive/scary . Ahhh, makes you appreciate good ol' Bahamut ! For example, what zodiac is Addramelech supposed to be ? Ok, Belias is obviously Capricorn or Aries, and Mateus would be Pisces. And Zeromus probably Scorpio or Cancer. But what the heck is Addrammelech ??!

WOW....if you're having trouble with Adrammelech, you seriously need to level up...alot. By the time most people get around to fighting him, it's pretty much a super-easy battle. What level are your characters?

The room in the back of The Sochen Cave Palace is home to the Hell Wyrm, one of the strongest optional bosses in the game (has 10,000,000 HP), and necessary to opening up the strongest, Yiazmat (has 50,000,000 HP). To get there, there's a loooong series of events, and you have to have many of the Hunt/Marks completed. I quote from an FAQ at gamefaqs.com:

"First step to hell wyrm is defeating Vyraal (another hunt/mark) which nets you a Dragon Scale. Go back to Cerobi Steppes/The Northsward(same place where you fought Vyraal) andgo to the #10 Windmill and should be able to find an exclamation point. Examine it and you'll meet the Wyrm Philosopher and in exchange for the Dragon Scale will give you the Ageworn key.

The Ageworn key unlocks the door to Hall of the Wroth God in Sochen Cave
Palace where Hell Wyrm is. Enter Sochen Cave Palace from Tchita Uplands and head toward Destiny's March. You want to enter Destiny's March from the east side because you need to open the "Doors of Hours" in a specific order. Open the doors from the east side going SW and then in a clockwise direction all the way around to back to the east where you started and you'll get a message that a door opened. Head to the west side of Destiny's March and you can open the door. Follow the path to the door to Hall of the Wroth God and use the Ageworn key to open it."

As to the espers *ahem*

Belias, the Gigas (Aries)
Esper of Fire
Previous incarnation: As the Aries Lucavi demon Velius in Final Fantasy
Tactics. Velius was probably a mistranslation of Belias that was used in the
Japanese version.

Mateus, the Corrupt (Pisces)
Esper of Ice
Previous incarnation: As the Hume Totema Mateus in Final Fantasy Tactics
Advance (in that version, the lady -is- Mateus). Also refers to Emperor
Palamecia, the big villain from Final Fantasy II.

Adrammelech, the Wroth (Capricorn)
Esper of Thunder
Previous incarnation: As the Bangaa Totema in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. Also as the Capricorn Lucavi demon Adramelk in Final Fantasy Tactics. Adramelk was probably a mistranslation of Adrammelech that was used in the Japaneseversion.

Zalera, the Death Seraph (Gemini)
Esper of Death
Previous incarnation: As the Gemini Lucavi demon Zalera in Final Fantasy
Tactics. The older Zalera never had that woman on his wing!

Shemhazai, the Whisperer (Sagittarius)
Esper of Soul
Previous incarnation: Made exlusively for FF12. Her Japanese name of Shumihaza is way cooler.

Cuchulainn, the Impure (Scorpio)
Esper of Poison
Previous incarnation: As the Scorpio Lucavi demon Queklain in Final Fantasy
Tactics. How the hell did Cuchulainn become Queklain?? No idea. Pronounced
"Koo-kuh-linn", according to Wikipedia, though I'm not sure how they got that in the first place.

Exodus, the Judge-Sal (Libra)
Esper of Nonelemental
Previous incarnation: As the Viera Totema in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance.
Also refers to Exdeath, the tree-like final boss of Final Fantasy V. It is
debatable if Exodus is merely an anglicized version of the creepy-sounding
Exdeath.

Hashmal, Bringer of Order (Leo)
Esper of Earth
Previous incarnation: As the Leo Lucavi demon Hashmalim in Final Fantasy
Tactics. Hashmalim should be the correct name; the NA FFXII team probably just shortened it to Hashmal.

Zeromus, the Condemner (Cancer)
Esper of Gravity
Previous incarnation: The final boss, Zeromus, in Final Fantasy IV.

Famfrit, the Darkening Cloud (Aquarius)
Esper of Water
Previous incarnation: As the Moogle Totema in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. Also refers to the Dark Cloud, the final boss of Final Fantasy III.

Chaos, Walker of the Wheel (Taurus)
Esper of Wind
Previous incarnation: As the last boss of the original Final Fantasy.

Ultima, the High Seraph (Virgo)
Esper of Holy
Previous incarnation: As the Nu Mou Totema in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. Also as the last boss/Virgo Lucavi demon Altima in Final Fantasy Tactics. Altima is probably a mistranslation of Ultima.

Zodiark, Keeper of Precepts (Ophiuchus/Serpentarius)
Esper of Shadow
Previous incarnation: As the ultimate Summon, Zodiac, in Final Fantasy Tactics. (Ophiuchus/Serpentarius is not really a zodiac constellation. It is the only constellation the sun passes through every year that does not belong to the zodiac twelve.)

I really hate the Espers to be honest. I don't find them that useful at all, and while some of the designs are interesting looking, I think some of them are just silly. Nevermind the fact that some of them are sooooo hard to get :P

Espers were not intened as uber summons to use during normal play. Some of them are very strong against some bosses, and several of them (Exodus, Zeromus, Shemhazai, and Zodiark) have very strong final attacks:

- Shemhazai's Soul Purge, damage based on total Devour Soul / Knot of Rust used. Capped damage of 60,000.
- Exodus' Meteor, damage a random number from 0 to 9999, but with a random chance of scoring 30,000.
- Zeromus' Big Bang, damage being five times the difference between his Max HP and his current HP. No capped damage. The lower his HP, the higher his damage.
- Zodiark's Final Eclipse, damage fixed at 50,000.

Pushover : Hmm hmm...verrrrry interesting ! I'd never figure out Adrammelech as Capricorn though ! Well, my team is in the Level 28 - 31 range . And we've fought bosses with tons more than Adrammelech...but he was way harder ! I'm trying to power up my team though by defeating marks. I was trying to find the Mind Flayer theother day, and I searched the whole damn mines and he wasn't anywhere ! Are those Garifs kidding me ??!

The Mindflayer can be found, but you have to enter the area Phase 1 Dig (not to be confused with the Phase 1 Shaft) with your party characters at full MP. Just keep searching in there and you'll find him. He's not that hard, but have one of your fighting characters use a long ranged weapon so as not to bunch your characters up, because Mindflayer can cause some nasty status effects in AoE spells, including Stop and Sap. He uses Soul Etude to fully restore his HP once. Other than that, he's not that hard.

The difference between one level and the next varies greatly in this game. Get your characters as high as you can without getting bored, and make sure to sell your loots (although some loots should be kept until later). The loots you get can be very VERY important to getting some of the best equips in the game. I highly recomend readying this, so you don't miss out on some great equipment:

And yeah, Adrammelech does look like a dragon, but if you look closely his head resembles a goat, as do his feet.

I've always loved the final fantasy series, in particular, FFVII was my favourite.

Has anyone tried challenging the really really difficult bosses in the series? In final fantasy VII, you have emerald weapon and ruby weapon. In FFVIII, you have omega weapon, in FFVIX you have Ozma and Hades and in FFX you have Penance and Nemesis.

Ozma isn't as tough as everyone says, you just need a bit of luck. Nemesis was easy but Penance was HARD. It took me months to go across the entire sphere grid with everyone!! But fighting the dark aeons was fun. I haven't bothered with Yizmat or Omega Mark yet (you forgot FFXII)

My favorite was VI...the storyline and characters were truely epic...I would love to see a movie on this...don't care if it's animated or live-action with tons of CGI, in this day and age it would be possible to make it look great...
being General Leo for 2 minutes was the coolest thing to me...

IV was great because it took the traditional medieval setting, which had become so expected and mundane, and made an engaging story out of it...
...people still don't wanna accept that there isn't any secret item or spell to cure Porom and Palom (hope I got those names right)

and VII deserves credit for changing the game.

I didn't really keep up with the ones after that tho....I own VIII for the PC but never opened it (it was a gift)
and I played IX for a little while until I died in the swamp where the character is trapped inside a plant (because I foolishly attacked both........) and never played it again

VIII just seemed too.........dare I say..."commercial" for me to get into lolz hope that comment doesn't incite anyone...

I don't know how you got that VIII was too commercial. It's actually my favorite out of all of the FF's. Everyone loves VII, and while it's got a lot of good things going for it, I felt that the storyline was too convoluted and unnecessarily complicated. A lot of big images, angst, and plot twists that didn't really go anywhere. Cloud's shattered identity was ridiculous.

VIII really hooked me with the sci-fi element that eventually is revealed to have a backdrop of fantasy in it. I didn't really consider it 'fantasy' based until a few themes came up, and it really gave me the feeling of what your average medieval setting themes would have evolved into if you allowed the 'land' to evolve technologically. Like a FF game that's been given a few thousand years of technological advancement.

IX was so-so. I didn't really feel for the characters, and the medieval setting didn't grab me as much. The whole 'the crystals come back' nonsense was so underused. You don't even get to fight the four fiends. Only one. The crystas were hardly used at all.

V is probably my second favorite, just because it was so long and I mastered everything and really got the ins and outs of the game.

VI is a classic, IV is also a lot of fun, I is....well...the first, and I haven't gotten far in II or III yet. X was nice, but got old near the end. I may have fought Penance and the other bosses, but by far the hardest was Abomination. That thing ripped me down to one character barely standing...

So far I'm loving XII, but I know it's almost over (too soon) and the hunts are just delaying the inevitable without being interesting enough.

my impression of FF8 was solely based off pictures and stuff I seen online, I admit I haven't actually played it or looked too indepth

but I don't like RPG's that go so much into sci-fi/tech stuff
I prefer medieval/fantasy type of settings
where characters that join you aren't just "humans"
but like...monster/freaky type of characters

Well, while I enjoy those things too, that was hardly prevalent in FF X or XII. You basically get human, human, human, thing that might as well be a human, human, human.

I think the only game that did a good job with that was tactics/tactics advance and VI.

VII and IX had a decent amount of non-human characters
Ooops, I completely forgot about Cait Sith. Okay, VII is in there, too. But IX? Naw. All we had was Quinna and s/he definitely falls in the 'might as well be human' role. Don't get me wrong, Quina was one of my favorite characters in the party but...

Well, to an extent, VII had moogles and mogs (moogle videogame at Gold Saucer, moogle costumes, Cait Sith is riding a gigantic stuffed Mog, etc.) Most of the trademark monsters were there, though. They also had lots of Chocobo stuff that VIII lacked.

Moombas have only been used in FF VIII. So I don't really count them as trademark FF creatures. Now tonberries...that's where it's at. :)

As for XII, I kind of wished that they had used more races. FFTA allowed you to have clan members of all four, and with more than the original four in XII, I really hoped that the party could have had more than Fran, who amounts to basically a furry wetdream. There's not much distinguishing Fran from the other characters because of her race (like high agility, low strength, high speed stats, etc.) and for what it's worth you could have reworked a lot of characters into opportunities for other races. Like Vaan. Based on how useless and unimportant to the story he is, you could have made him a bangaa and made Penelo the main human character that the audience identifies with.

So far, not much is important about Balthier that was so important that he be (spoilers, highlight to read) Ci's son or a Judge or what have you. You could have just made Cud an evil guy, unrelated to Balthier. Just make him a bangaa sky pirate or something...

It just seems like with all the different races and the different stats they had in FFTA, you could have been a lot more creative with the main party of FFXII.

...Oh well...
