Final Fantasy, anyone ???

I need some help with a mark in FF XII. It's one of the harder marks where the guy is telling me to go to an area that is labelled the Wyrm's Lair, which I have located in the northern end of the world map. The problem is that everytime I go there, a fierce sandstorm is always present and I cannot gain access to the area. Help ?

If I remember correctly, it had something to do with the Wind Vane mini-quest in Rabanastre. While it's probably complicated to type out, go to these sites for some really helpful guides and maps:

In my Final Fantasy XII, I've arranged my party like this :

Vaan : my main damage dealer/attacker (can summon Belias too)
Balthier : all-around talent ! He's both an attacker, a healer and a thief. I usually have him use Horology if we're cornered by many foes...for some reason, ho does it so much better than Vaan or Basch who can also use it.
Fran: she's my black mage. She knows most spells up to level 3-4 in all types of magic. I usually have her use Dark or Aero cos they deal decent damage. The problem is, once her MPs are finished, she's pretty much useless. She's quite the loser in real combat. Her A.I. isn't the best...she keeps running up to enemies even if she's in critical HP condition ! And her combat skills aren't particularly good. As long as she has her spells though, she's useful.
Basch: my second attacker, along with Vaan. He's sturdy and can take a blow or two without being KO'd almost instantly (hear that, FRAN ??!).And he's quite fast too.
Ashe: she's my white mage. She knows more white magic than the rest of the team combined probably, and I have her use Raise, Curaga and Regen all the time. Plus, she's real quick to react when we're under attack. For example, Fran takes ages to realise she should actually lend a hand when we're cornered and outnumbered by 6 monsters or so ! Ashe reacts instantly and immediately starts fighting. She's also good at fighting too...she serves double duty as an attacker if she doesn't have someone to heal.
Penelo: my second all-around talent. But Balthier is in the attacking/Techniques department, while Penelo is my all-around mage. She knows no Techniques whatsoever, and is quite a lousy fighter, but she knows a lot of magicks both black and white to either attack enemies or heal my group. And since she got her 3rd Quickening yesterday, she has plenty of MPs to spend !

What the heck...my previous post is quite weird. Somehow some bold words came out bold, and some didn't ! Oh well...

Woah there's loads of FF fans on here.

I've been a fan since, like Final Fantasy 6 when it first came out on the SNES. I've played them all from 6-12 but my favorite will always be FFIX (9) I just love everything about it, from the story to the characters oh and the freaking sweet baddy Kuja. He manages to kick ass while looking sexy.

I'm playing 12 now and it's a whole lot of fun, story's a bit boring and Ashe is the worst character EVER, but loving the battle system.

I love Kingdom Hearts as well. Even though people call it "kiddy" because of the disney characters, it really isn't. I hardly think a 5 year old would understand the works of Organization XIII.
AHHHHHH I nearly watched that secret ending clip from KH2 Final Mix just then!! Didn't want to spoil myself, I'm hoping it will come out in the UK but KH1 final mix didn't....

Thank god the bf likes these games too ;)

Me! Me! I love Final Fantasy games too! Heehee...

I remember when i was young, i like to watch my second brother play it. Back then, it was Final Fantasy II and i was so absorbed by the magic, the summoning and the background music! Don't know why. Haha... I remember Odin is always the coolest one to summon. And after he completed the game, he gave it to me and i love it ever since! I was only really, really small back then like 10, i think. Or even younger.

Everything is cool until X-2. I'm starting to think that they're doing too much with it and kinda lost it focus. So far, i don't know how is it going cause i haven't got the money to buy XII yet, but i'll sometime in the future. Not long ago, one of friend show me videos of XII magic and summoning. And fark! It's bloody wicked, man! Haha... Yeh...

I'm kinda miss Nobuo composing the entire soundtrack for Final Fantasy cause to me, i find he's the only one that could really, really bring Final Fantasy to alive, but i'm not too sure what happened. Meh... I hope he'll come back on XIII.

yes FF for me please. Been that way for as long as i can remember it has something to do with me loving some RPG games and just playing a FF game. It reminds me of why i love the genre so much.

About the Wyrm Lair challenge/hunt. It was indeed a side quest attatched to it where you have to find a stone that will let you go through the sandstorm unhindered and I got the first part of the stone okay, but when I went back to Rabanaster to ask the two guys who gave me the side quest where the second half of the stone was located they had vanished !! Oh well. Maybe they're in lowtown and I'll go check there.
At the moment I'm also replaying KH 2 but am not 'replaying' the whole thing, just using Sora and co and going from different worlds and levelling him up some more and collecting the different gems and crystals and other items needed to create the Ultima Keyblade as well as the King and Queen weapons. I am hoping by doing this Sora and his guys will be in full health enough to take out the final stages in the game in The World That Never Was.
KH 3, even if it even is a KH game, looks wicked judging by the trailer that was posted here and seems to me maybe focused more on how the whole Kingdom Hearts and the Keyblades themselves were used and created. My only confusion is that in the new trailer one of the knights looks a hell of a lot like Roxus, but Natamora insists that the knights and the bad dudes are all NEW characters and not related to Sora, Riku or Kari.
On that note, has anyone heard anything good about the KH 2 REMIX game that actually spawned the new 3 teaser ? Is is going to be released in English ? And if anyone has played the Japanese version, IS the difficulty notched up more and are the worlds this time more explorable and secrets are there to be unlocked ?

Interesting layout.

I always thought it weird that Basch, who starts out with the lvl 1 axe/hammer liscense learned, has the lowest Vitality of all characters, which is required for high damage with axes/hammers. You'd think he would have the most by looking at him.

But the rest of the characters are well-suited to what they do best, I think. Vaan is balanced but leaning towards strength, Penelo has high magic, Ashe is balanced but leaning towards magic, Balthier has good strength and the highest speed, and Fran is balanced between speed and magic.

Also, Foe: Character MP < 30% - Syphon is the bestest gambit there is for magic types. Alot of people overlook Syphon because it's in one of the Airship shops and by then most people use teleport crystals. I think I remember finding mine from Rabanastre ~ Nalbina flight.

Compared with some of you, I'm still new to FF. I stated to play this series since FFVIII, a lot of people believe that FFVII is always the best, but my love is for FFVIII all the time. The story is perfect.
FFX is also great, but it is a little too short, and yes, the Final boss looks ridiculous. But if you have the chance to play FFX International(It is said it's only available in Japan, English Dubbing, optional English and Japanese subtitles.), you will be able to challenge many hidden bosses who are not parts of the story.
FFX-2, well, only a few new stages, not that interesting I think.
FFXII, I'm not very used to the new battle system.

I never like A.RPG, but Kingdom Hearts is an exception. SE has published "Kingdom Heats 2 the Final Mix" in JApan, (English dubbing, Japanese subtitles) that is actually an extended version of the game, will it be released in the US? I hate Japanese words.

Float is used to mainly avoid traps in FF XII

It also gives my ancient PS2 a lovely chopping lag from time to time.

And I have to agree with Just Believe, Tactics is heads above all the other FF games in terms of storyline. It's the only one I can play repeatedly and still enjoy.

I'll agree with you on FFTactics. The story about cut-throat political intrigue backdroped by a civil war of succession certainly is the best plotline in any FF in the series.

Pushover : Hey THANKS for the tip, man !!! I had no idea... I DID find out, though, that you can buy Teleport Crystals in the airships. I found out by chance. I went on a flight from Bhujerba to Rabanastre just to see if there's something inside the ships worth exploring. And I found out that fortunately, the crystals are not limited to the few ones you find in your journeys or receive as bounty for your hunts. Cos I use them all the time, and I would've been outta stock by now !

Anyway, I'm really happy & excited to see so many fellow Final Fantaholics like me !

I just defeated my hardest boss yesterday, it was freaky-deaky...It had definitely 70,000 + HP, and it had its own Quickening/SPecial Attack that it used all the time, that kept killing my team in zero time. Basically I think I won just by sheer dumb luck. I'd lost a few times to it before, and each time I'd restart, cos I had saved right before the fight. I was verrrrrry lucky ! I managed to begin the battle by unleashing my strongest Quickening chain yet, a whopping 16 hits that took away a stunning 28,000-something of its HP. (About 40% !). So the lil' (more like, huge) shit started the battle with almost half its HP.

But it quickly went on killing my kiddies one after the other, and most of the time I didn't really get a chance to hit it cos I was too busy simply keeping my party alive. Somehow though I managed to bring it down to the last 15 - 20 % of its HP, and having 3 of my characters already dead, the other 3 practically with one leg already in their tomb, 2 of them no MP left and the f*cker charging up for another devastating Quickening, I somehow managed to get Basch to use Charge on himself, which surprisingly worked, and having enough MP he initiated a Quickening chain that ended in 11 hits and killed it ! It was it or them . Had the chain not been powerful enough, or had Charge failed, I wouldn't have had time to do anything to save them.ot even to use a Potion or anything...

I really appreciate my luck in cases like this ! I find it hard to pass puzzle-type levels, but hard bosses are my favorite. I somehow always manage to have enough dumb luck that will save my ass, like a spell that would've finished me off if it hit missing, or a really unreliable spell hitting target, etc, etc...;-)

But that boss (Elder Wyrm) was the mother of all bosses so far ! Oh brother...It was SO much stronger than all previous bosses (and a few following ones as well, at least where I'm at right now, which is not much farther but anyway...), it was like....WHOA. It was just rediculously hard compared to the previous ones, know what I mean. Like, the previous ones were increasingly harder (of course) but the escalation was slow and gradual. Here it's like jumping from a 2/10 to a 8/10 !

But I still enjoyed it. Got to watch many, MAAAANY White Whorls by sexy lil' Vaan. (Damn, he's so hot !!! Shit, he's underage ! Oh no, wait, he's not real. So it doesn't matter to be a pervert here..heheheheeee...besides, he's only a year younger !)

Last but not least, I'd like some help from you fellow more experienced players.
The Cluckatrice hunt is driving me nuts ! It's nowhere !!! The bird, I mean. The crazy woman has a split personality I think . She said I should go SOUTHEAST, but in my Clan Primer she wrote I should go North. Besides, I've checked both in the North and in the South/East bank, and it's nowhere ! What do I gotta do to lure it out ???

Yeah, you have to kill them all, leav ethe area, then come back. It's not that hard if you are leveled up enough, and the chikitrices don't bother you that much.

If you thought the Elder Wrym was hard, it gets much harder. Some of the optional fights (namely the Espers like Zodiark, Ultima, and Zeromus) are super difficult. The Hellwyrm was not really hard, just a matter of survivng his attacks for a long time. Yiazmat I haven't beat yet, and he is one of the 3 hardest optional bosses in the game, and over 50 million HP (50,000,000).

Anyone else actually get the Zodiac Spear? I missed it on my first playthrough (whenever I play a game I speed through it first and beat it, then play again to get all the extras). It's by far the strongest weapon in the game, and makes most bosses alot easier, but I can't get over using the Masamune.

I hope the next Final Fantasy has a better story than the last one. The gameplay was excellent but the story was incredibly boring and the characters were no better than vehicles to be driven. I mean, it's pretty damn sad when I find a NPC far more interesting than any of the main characters.

Bleh, X-2 was a joke. Personally, I think it had three 'sexy' female main characters to lure in money from adolescent males. Besides, it's too girly for my tastes.

Vermillion : Yup it worked ! Thanks !! I was really surprised at how frickin' weak that Cluckatrice was ! Is there no sort of comparative "level" of those mark monsters ??? I mean the other Level 3 mark that I tried to hunt tore my team to shreads at the blink of an eye ! And even the level 2 marks were way more powerful.

Speaking of which...damn, and I thought the Elder Wyrm was tough !!! I tried to hunt my second Level 3 mark and thought, what the heck, if it is Cluckatrice's power "level" it's gonna be easy. Well, it WASN'T !!! That %#@#$ Ring Wyrm ripped us apart . I thought it was gonna be Tiamat's (being a fellow Ring Wyrm) level, or at least pretty close to. Nope ! It wasn't ...it was insanely powerful and killed my team very easily. We barely amanged to get it down to 1/2 of its HP.

Does anyone else think the bosses (and common monsters too) get higher up in the power scala a bit TOO quickly ? Like, they don't "grow" with you. They get tougher as you get tougher obviously, but they get tougher at much a faster rate. I mean, in the beginning of the game the stages were relatively easy and the bosses were a bit of a challenge but manageable. Now all the stages I get to are extremely tiring cos all of the monsters are so powerful I can't even fight them in normal combat . I basically use Quickenings incessantly and exclusively. It takes hours for a single stage/mission cos I always use up all my Quickenings at the blink of an eye, then I have to run to the nearest crystal to fill my MPs up again (or if I'm stranded in the middle of nowhere, I have to run around for hours until I have enough MPs for Quickenings) and repeat, repeat, repeat. AT some point back in the game I remember being all excited everytime I went to a new stage or on a new mission cos I wanted to see what will happen. Now it's almost a drag cos it just takes so fucking long ...

And yeah I attempted to fight Zeromus. Oh - my - Goaaaad ! He was like...175 - 180,000 HP, and killed a character per attack . I'm gonna try that again much much MUCH later !

I love X-2 because it's fun. Everybody who says it sucked, I find, tried to take it way too seriously. Haven't we learned from all the other games that the final boss is usually some sort of ultimate evil? After providing the ultimate salvation, what else can you do? At least, that's my logic. The reason I enjoyed X-2 so much was because you could shift powers according to the situation.

Also: Songstress Yuna + Arcana Ability Relic= A dancing hot chick casting drain every turn.

I agree the gameplay was phenomenal and in many ways better than FFX. The job system made a triumphant return.

However the story was absymal. I couldn't stand it. It didn't make sense and it was quite contrived...

But the gameplay saved the game.

Maybe I should clarify... After you have saved the world from the brink of destruction, what other great heroic deed can you do? X-2 only takes place a year after X. Anybody expecting a new, epic plot line was bound to be disappointed.
