Final Fantasy, anyone ???

I'm a big fan of FF since my friend lent me VII. It's probably my most favourite series ever.
I've played every sinle one of them, but my most favourite would still probably be VII. I liked VIII too. Sadly, IX, X, XI and XII didn't have that "something" in my opinion. They were still good though.
Can't wait until they release XIII and VsXIII ^__^

So you guys here seem to confirm what I've read on other pages too...VII is leading the charts !!

I haven't yet met my first Esper as I've just begun playing XII. But it's true that Fran isn't that good. In tough fights she's usually the first one to go down. The license board is kinda weird too...It's intrigiung on one hand, but on the other hand it basically takes away all individuality from the characters, cos all characters can learn the same abilities.

God, it took me forever to beat Ba'Gamnan and his gang in the Lhusu mines...that's where I'm at currently. Please don't post any spoilers and DON'T tell me what happens afterwards cos I wanna find out for myself.

Question : why do they (the makers of the games) add and subtract spells at each game ??? I rememeber some of the older ones had some spells that the new ones IX +++ don't have anymore, like Afire or Demi or Meltdown. If they wanna change things, just add new spells, not take away older ones as well !!

I love all of them...call me easy to please, but I've just enjoyed each one of them for what they were. My fave FF is probably IX, cuz Kuja was just so cool. In my opinion he was probably the most non-intimidating, likeable FF villain ever, and for some reason that appealed to me.

FF Tactics stole my heart too. I haven't beaten it yet, but its an amazing game.

FF music always carries me away. Can't think of one FF game I don't love to death.

I believe FFVII is so popular because for many gamers, it was their first time playing the Final Fantasy franchise. When Final Fantasy VII was released, Squaresoft launched a huge TV ad campaign in the United States over the game. I still remember the commercials. FFVII brought Final Fantasy to the mainstream gamer. In addition, it was the first major RPG to utilize the revolutionary new graphics system of the PlayStation. The cinematics created the first icon characters of Final Fantasy. Sephiroth and Cloud. Before, all of the other characters were small pixels on the Super Nintendo. FFVII made the franchise possible to create poster board characters that looked like real people. Hence, it's popularity, success, and iconism.

Hehe...You know just WHO Roxas is, right ??
...It's Jesse McCartneyyyyyy ! (The voice, I mean !)

Another thing : is it just me or has Princess Ashe been raiding Yuna's closet ??! They're so much alike, the hair, the face, the dressing style...it's like she's Yuna's long-lost sister !

I think the sexiest leading character is CLOUD ! Yum yum yum ... ;-)

Favorite Summon, anyone ??

I vote for Bahamut ! Or...Shiva !

And spell/special attck ??

....Hmm...Vaan's WHITE WHORL or Quistis' SHOCKWAVE PULSAR !!!

Personally I could not stand Roxus, or indeed KH 2 at all. It was just too linear when compared to the first one, with no real subplots, added worlds or enough secrets to warrant spending enough time playing it again once you complete it. Also, Riku and Kari were not at all in it enough after all the previews suggested they would be and even then both these two were kept to the background until the closing minutes of the game itself. No, for me KH 2 was a major letdown from KH 1, and have low expectations for part 3 unless they do a massive overhaul and make it more indepth and more substance like part one.

Princess Ashe has possibly the shortest skirt in history of the FF games ;) All I kept thinking was damn, she must be getting a serious chill when she rides those chocobos and airships. On that note, why can' we get a FF character whose scottish so he wears a kilt ? Think about the new mini game you could come up with - search the village with the scots and lift up as many kilts as you can to find the one who wears it the traditional way. Earn 1000 GIL if you find him on the first try. ;) And with Ewan McGregor voice the young scot and Sean Connery the clan chief.

Fave lead character is definately Cloud. So cool, calm and yet conflicted in that adorable emo sort of way. And for the record I think Aeris was his true love in the game, and everytime I get to the ferris wheel sub game at the golden saucer I play it so Aeris is the one I go out the date with. Though, for a laugh, I somehow made it so barrat ended up as my date a couple of times.

Fave Summon ? Would have to be Bahumet Zero and Knights Of The Round from FF VII. My fave spells would have to be Meltdown and Curaga, as both of these spells caused the most amount of damage to your enemies and healed ALL members of your party signifigantly in battle. Those, and the highest levels of the fire, lightning and water and ice spells in the game.

Fave summon has to be Fat Chocobo.......so PC.
Had to use Choc/Mog dozens of times against Safer Sephiroth used to see him get hit by Fat Chocobo!!!!!!!!! It was worth it.

Spell: Flare simple, quick, does lots of damage or holy.

Limit: Dolphin kick.

Personally I had a wee thing for Zidane....the things he could do with that tail!!

Is anyone else here a fan of Edea or/and Ultimecia ? Even though she's a villain, I think Ulti is quite cool. And Edea is uber-cool !!! Her loks, her powers, everything !

Any opinions on best/worst final boss(es) ??

I don't know for best...maybe Ultimecia from VIII. But only maybe.

But for worst, I vote 100% for Raem (Crystal Chronicles). He was mind-numbingly ball-busting and difficult. He's the reason I didn't get to finish the game ! I had beaten EVERYTHING else BUT him, and he just wouldn't go down ! Plus the stupid save system made me re-do the whole mission/level again and aain everytime I lost.So I had to spend 1-1 1/2 hours before actually battling him....and then he was SOOOO fucking hard as well, he had some kind of Shell ability and I couldn't see his HP, his weakness, anything ! After the 4th or 5th attemptI just lost it and broke the CD. But I don't regret it ! It was a disgrace to Final Fantasy anyway...and he was the only thing I'd left out so there was nothing else to do for me on that CD anyway !

Talk about short temper, huh ?

Now that I found this topic I won't go on for an hour with a giant post.

All you poor people who started with FFVII missed out on the first few that really defined the series. Those were the classics, though my favorites have got to be IV, VI, VII, and XII. IV simply for the storyline, VI for the best cast of characters (nobody beats Kefka), VII for the innovations and "One Winged Angel," and XII for being so new and fresh (with several hottie characters).

Who here doesn't like Nobuo Uematsu? He's probably the most famous video game composer there is, and he definetly helped make the series shine. I had the privilege to actually attend one of his "Dear Friends" concerts, and even got his autograph on a T-Shirt and a copy of one of his Black MageS CDs.:D

I'd say the worst final boss was Yu Yevon from FFX. Is it even possible to lose that fight? That one seemed more like a chore, just to wrap up the story than an all out final battle.
Same for Necron is FFIX who just appears out of nowhere. Though at least that one was a challenge.
Yeah, Necron was one of the hardest bosses, by far, right up there with Neo X-death from FFV and Zeremous from FFIV. Sephiroth and Kefka dissapointed me, though. They were way too easy for being two of the most popular villains in video game history.

Oh, you're voting your "worst villains" for being too easy ? I actually voted for Raem because he was too HARD ! He had 2 or 3 forms (I can't even remember, haven't played for ages !), you couldn't read his stats/HP/weaknesses, and his attacks/spells had an area of effect about as big as the arena itself. If I was, say, in the middle of the arena and he started casting, I had to run as far as I could until I was at the utmost corner , or else it would hit me. Plus with one single attack he took away more than half my HP...Damn you, RAEM !

Oh yeah, I remember Griever . He was Ultimecia's own personal lil' Summon/Guardian , right ? And he could use Blue Magic like Quistis if I remember correctly, he could even perform her Shockwave Pulsar, right ?

Question : can any other villain in the FF series besides Sephiroth and Ultimecia use the all-powerful Meteor spell ?

Question : can any other villain in the FF series besides Sephiroth and Ultimecia use the all-powerful Meteor spell ?
If I remember correctly:

FFI Chaos - didn't have a final attack but used the strongest spells in the game

FFII Emporer Phalmecia - don't remember

FFIII Cloud of Darkness - Only has 1 attack

FFIV Zeromus - Black Hole, Big Bang

FFV Neo X-Death - Almagest, Void

FFVI Kefka - Fallen One

FFVII Sephiroth - Meteor, but it's called Super Nova

FFVIII Ultimecia - Hell's Judgement, Apocalypse

FFIX Necron - Grand Cross

FFX Braska's Final Aeon - don't remember

FFXI Shadow Lord - don't remember

FFXII The Undying - Megaflare, Gigaflare, and Teraflare

.....yeah I know too much...

Don't laugh at me but my favorite final fantasy game was final fantasy VI, but my other favorite ones were VI and X. (If you want another good series that square did play chrono trigger and chrono cross.)

Well, Meteor wasn't consistantly an ultimate spell. In some of the FF's it was. In others, it was just another powerful upper level spell. In FFVII, they made the two gigantic spells Holy and Meteor into more of acts of nature/God instead of attack magic.

I've been playing through FFT and I finally got Cloud and all the special characters I could want, but Cloud sucks! There's also nothing left to do, so I all I have left is Murond City, which means the end of the game. I'm really wondering if it's worth it to bring Cloud up to 50~ from level 1...So lame.

FFX had the worst final boss ever. The boss didn't make sense, looked terrible, had no point to the story and completely confused the ending to a masterpiece of a plot. Which is why FFX has a weaker plot than Tactics and VI simply because of the final boss. Just awful.

Sephiroth as a final boss in FFVII was amazing. For the first time we had chorus music with "One Winged Angel!" I used to play the final boss just to hear the music! It was amazing. The song defined the entire final battle into one of the best boss fights.

FF Tactics boss was too easy once you have Orlando in your party hehe.

Final Fantasy VIII changed my life, no joke....I spent like a week straight one summer playing that game...plus Squall was a major hottie (animated I know) but hot none the less...

I haven't played much of Final Fantasy other than some of the old Snes ones thru emulation, FFIII on the DS and FFCC on the Gamecube. I havent played any of the newer ones. But yeah, the series are great and are what RPGs should be all about. Great stories, great gameplay, great challenge and nice looking graphics.

The lack of good summons in Final Fantasy lately has really bothered me. It does seem that they're going back to basics and making them not all-powerful like they did in VII,VIII,(IX? I didn't play it) and X.

The one's in XII aren't that great and don't even get me started about XI.
I'm surprised by how USELESS some of the summons in XII are.

My favorite Final Fantasy is FF Tactics Advance (GBA), Final Fantasy I Dawn Of Souls (GBA), Final Fantasy III (DS), Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy VIII, VII are tied and I sure like XII however I'm very close to the end and have stopped playing because it's getting a bit linear from what I was doing before (Which was completing all the hunts.)

By the way those were in no particular order, and I think X and XII rank as my most faves. Even though X has those awkward.... AWKWARD moments. HA HA HAA HA HAAA HA HAA HA HAAA! (I don't think I've ever been so embarassed to have people in the same room as me while I play a game.)

The lack of power with the latest FF summons/evons/guardians/ or what ever they are labelled in the game at the time is worrying, when you consider in games such as VII or VIII that some of them WERE worth the effort of getting and helped out a lot in battle when you used them, usually in the dying minutes of a boss fight to win by the skin of your teeth. The only game where I thought the summons were worth the time getting and using was VII, especially the Knights Of The Round materia and the other versions of Bahumet, as they held a heck of a lot of power and were actually quite handy when dealing large amounts of damage to the boss characters in the game.
Another thing I noticed is that the games, like the recent XII, are also taking empathis away from spell casting or gaining powerful spells and instead wanting you to focus more on upping your levels, gaining better armour and weapons and so on and so on. Now, though I like this direction on the part that I like seeking out the secret mega weapons and armour that makes the battles much easier, another part of me is disappointed that the spells have taken a back seat. In VII I was overjoyed when I gained a stronger Cure, Fire or Lightning spell as I had to actually EARN it and when I did it was a relief and glee that I had a more powerful spell in my inventory.
But on the subject of XII, does anyone else feel this one comes off as more of a beginner's FF and just as a vehicle to get new people into it so they have a market for the new ones that will come out on PS 3 ? I ask this because, as mentioned with the weakness of the Espers themselves, the overall fights, plot and overall difficulty of the game itself is WAY too easy for a long term player of ther series.
A question though - what is the one or couple of FF games that you have not been able to finish ? Mine would have to be VIII and IX, but for different reasons. VIII because I always cark it in the final boss fight with that witch from the future, especially when she does that trick where she scrambles up your fighters at the beginning of the fight and sometimes you are just left with your weakest team members. And IX because quite frankly I could not get into the story or the characters even though I tried very hard to.

I never finished VI, because I got bored, but I'm right there. I think I just want to do all the remaining sidequests first. I never finished I, or III (but I never got far in III), or IV. I nevcer started II.

I stopped playing XII for no reason.

All the rest I've beaten (V, VII, VIII, IX, X, T, and TA).

To beat VIII, it takes some work. When I started a new game, I traded junctions alot in order tog ive characters level up bonuses that would make them into what I wanted them to be. So I knew that Rinoa has one of the best limit breaks so I made her into a physical powerhouse and gave her lots of vitality and spirit. I made Zell into a fighter with some decent magic. Squall was a powerhouse (but it was difficult since he's in every battle and can't be given all the GFs needed to boost his stats). Selphie and Irvine were balanced Redmage types, and Quistis was my main mage.

They're all good characters if you work them right. Irvine's Pulsar Ammo and Piercing Ammo can do amazing amounts of damage, Selphie's reels will do a lot of good work if you hit 'O' to redo them if you don't like what you got (like her Full Cure will heal you even if you're invincible). Quistis is good for her Might Guard which can give Regen, Float, Wall, and Aura, and for Shockwave Pulsar which can do over 9999. Rinoa's Invincible Moon and Wishing Star are geat for support and attack, respectively and probably saved me more than anything, and Squall's Lionheart is a great offensive. I don't use Zell's limit so much, so I use him for summoning and upkeep of the rest of the team. I load him with the powerful GF's like Eden.

So you can definitely ensure that even if Ultimecia picks a crappy starting team that you can hold your own. The key is using Aura ;)

Shockwave Pulsar is SUCH a cool name ... ;-) One of my favorite special moves/limit breaks/quickenings both for the name and for the actual move !

But Vaan's White Worl from XII is VERRRRY impressive too ! It's saved me a lot of times so far ...I still don't get, though, WHY when you switch into "Quickening" mode, characters that previously had way too little MP to perform their special attack can now suddenly unleash it . Where did the MP suddenly come from ?

Or Basch performed his Level 2 special attack twice in a row . How ? A level 2 quickening drains 2 MP bars, and he only had 2 ! I don't really get it.

But if you have your team use enough Quickenings in a row, some kind of hidden "bonus" attack is unleashed that causes even more damage. (Inferno or something...I ended up doing 8,500 damage ! With only 3 level 13 -14 characters. Woooooowy !)
