The guide says lv34. Well, whatever. I still can't kill them.

What level are you currently at? I'm hovering around 10 right now. I'm on my way back to Rabanastre from the Barheim Passage. I haven't really concentrated on leveling up. The story is too much fun. I may concentrate on doing that right now though. While I have Balthier, Basch, and Fran with me.

Balthier is officially my favorite character in ALL of Final Fantasy...second only to Kuja. Sorry, sorry, can't beat my Kuja. He wasn't hot, but he kicked ass.

Have you only done two hunts? They're aren't that hard, really. They're kind of fun. I've done three. The last one I did was the big cactus thing.

I'll play some more tonight. I'll try my hardest to concentrate on leveling up alone.

How much are you using the guide, if at all?

I'm only reading the bubbles, which usually point out the important stuff. Like the treasure chests you shouldn't open if you want the strongest weapon in the game later, and other random blurbs.

Oh and I haven't died once!! With any of my characters! I'm so proud of myself too! I nearly died with the Mimic Queen. Vaan was like 30HP away from KO when the bitch dropped dead.

And is it just me, or is Ashe (Amalia) a bitch. Seriously.

I'm currently at level 13...some of the fights have been pretty difficult (particularly the ones where you have to run a lot)...it's keeping me busy though

There will be summons, but the oldies that we all love (Shiva, Alexander, etc.) have been replaced by a new set of disturbingly designed baddies (Death is my favorite). Still, you only get half of the summons in the main game, while the other are optional bosses. The only problem here is that, by the level you actually get to beat those assholes, you really won't need to summon in order to dispatch your enemies. It's mostly a completionist thing. CHuchulainn is fucking awesome by the way.

Pro: Dude, wait till you fight the mark in Lhusu Mines.


ANd screw the guides. It's better going in blind. Personally, I love the story. Like I said, it's much more mature than the whole 'obnoxiously beautiful baddie gets depressed/looks for his mommy/wants ultimate power so he/she threatens to ruin the world deal' that all other FF's had. The big bad may be no Sephiroth, but odds are, some gamers may reluctantly want to agree with his World View.

It's really nifty actually, since all the sidequests tie into one bigger picture - - so in essence you have two storylines to contend with (i.e. Hunting and killing a mark will affect how another mark goes in down the road, the summons are tied to a ****** and all that...)

Which mines were you in? I think I remember the Steeling you were talking about, had an affinity tor leeching HP off you? That asshole.

If you look at the "Side Quest" section of the guide, you'll be overwhelmed by all the shit there's to do. I'm gonna try to finish the game quickly, so I can start a new one and play with the guide in hand, that way I don't miss a thing! ^_^

For the one(s) who've finished the game...is there a downside to choosing not to use a specific character? Like in my game, Vaan, Balthier, and Basch are nearing level 20 right now. Fran...she's still at 9.

Right now I'm just having fun killing random stuff. I can't get over how much fun the current battle system is. So much better than the old one. I guess they both had their qualities.

I'm willing to bet yes. Because when Characters "die" in battle you can switch them to live one's, I think having everyone at an equal level may be optimal for hunts and fights where you run out of Phoenix Downs.

Also I think it more so depends on the weapons and armor you can use.

I mean sure Penelo sucks and no one should use her...BUT SHAME on you for not leveling Fran. I understand you wanting smexxy man party but ...I mean Vaan? really??

C'mon give Fran some Bunny Love.

Also I'm willing to bet you might have to split the party up at some point.

What? No, no! I love Fran!! I love her accent and her bunny ears and her killer dominatrix outfit! I just...don't love her more than the other three.

As for the "smexxy man party" - Vaan isn't hot. He's cute...in a, "Oh look at that little girl over there...she's cute." kind of way. But I feel he needs to be in the main party. He's like the main character (debatable). Balthier cannot be moved...EVER. If he is, I'll die. I will. I'll burst into flames and die. Basch, he's strong, and I like him! The scar thing is totally hawt.

And what do the men in Rabanastre have against wearing a shirt...not that I'm complaining. But everywhere I turn, bare chests...it's like covering up is a sin!! Damn it Balthier! Get with the program.

I'll try to use Fran more often...it wont be easy, but I'll do my best.

Dude! I so can't wait to kill a T-Rex. I'm sick of running from them. Today for example, I was wandering through the desert, and a bunch of those deformed wolf things came and attacked me and I had the gambit thing on, and somehow I got mixed up in the commands...anyway, turns out a T-Rex was within range and I ended up attacking him or her once...it wasn't even that much. Took like 160hp. Drama queen, really. Anyway! The fucker starts chasing me, and I'm running like it's the end of the world (I hadn't saved in ages). I barely made it to Rabanastre. Basch was dead...and Balthier was like 3 HP from death himself. It was terrible.

Kuja: Yeah, there is a downer to having half your party underpowered. The latter bosses, and the optional ones have a knack for killing your team at alarming speed (and I don't mean killing by beating you up, I mean killing by literally casting 'KILL'). A lot of them have disablega, bad breath, and a shitload of status ailments that hit your entire party, practically rendering them dead. That's why at the very least, you need your reserves to be fast enough to pull a PD on your dead mates before they get chomped down as well.

Pro: Good job, man. Had to do that fucker in without Quickenings, tough time. Next, hmm, I forget, it's gonna be clear sailing until you get to the time-requirement/fetch-me-this-first marks. They suck. Watch out for carrot by the way. She's a mean one.

If I lived in Rabanastre... wow... it's like, there's no ugly human in sight. Abs are freakin' congenital over there.

I've officially clocked in at more or less 120 hours, and am now pissed at the Great Crystal sidequest. I need that last Esper damnit!

Oh, and try fighting weaponless. It's fun and challgenging AND absolutely retarded. Punching a wyrm to death is priceless.

I broke down today. I seen a PS2 on sale at this store for 99 bucks tax included...so I bought it and I got a copy of FF12 and a memory card...I just defeated that stupid Rogue Tomato (WTF) and now in some kind of sewer trying to find a way inside the palace...its loads of fun.

I have the game and its freaking awsome. Just be prepared because the game is going to get harder... MUCH harder.

PS: You should consider buying the guide because it will help you out ALOT because you will miss a lot of things ni this game and it can defenitly help you.

Let me tell you guys that I found a way to get to level 20 in under five hours. Its easy to do it, if you know how.

You will miss so much without the guide. By now you've probably already missed a hunt or two, possible even lost the chance to get the strongest weapon in the game. I'm still shocked at how many side quests there are. It's insane.

@Theyoungman: How do you level up quickly? I'm at level 19 with mostly everyone...except Fran...she's at 15 right now. Which isn't so bad! I haven't been ignoring her completely.

I love this game, been playing it every chance I get....I do have the guide, but I do not use it all the time...I've also found that trying other things that the guide does not say works too....especially trying different spells
