I rather believe that this is where the motivation for Mateen's murderous actions can be discovered.
It may also be pertinent that the self loathing Mateen was acting out of a so-called ‘gay panic’ – an extreme reaction to displays of gay affection, generally because the person is desperately suppressing such desires in himself. In that case, the whole “Islamic” connection would have been just a cover for his real motive, which he needed to conceal.
I've had sexual relations here in Greece with several, or more Muslim men, so called refugees passing through Greece from Afghanistan, Iran, or Iraq en route to Northern European countries. In each case they preferred the anonymity that I offered them to enable them to explore their real sexual identity, without having to commit to a relationship that would include exchanging affection.
Most of the Muslim men that I have known, and know are cultural Muslims celebrating festivals as we might celebrate Christmas, and Easter. Beyond that they are secular, and disinterested in religious practice.
Sorry, but I refuse to live in a society where going out means I have to take a weapon with me. You can live in fear if you want, I won't. The fact that one thinks we should live in this world means there is something wrong. If your answer to mass shootings is more guns, you're wrong. Not an opinion, you're just wrong.
There was a remarkable number of selfies published of the guy. I'd just assumed he was narcissistic.

The moment I saw pics of the guy... you can see it in his eyes and mouth. And there are way too many pics.
When I heard he beat his wife, I was even more certain that he was filled with self-hate and bottled up rage because he was a homo trapped in a marriage to a woman.
I'll bet that we now start to hear more about the darker side of his upbringing and sexual history as well.
I guess we'll never know what event triggered this massacre. But it was probably rejection.

Two things here.
This here is a wake up call for all you lgbtq folks that are "comfortable" where you think you're living in a "post homophobic" America. I often hear folks ready to shit on other places but acting like here is oh so safe for gay people. Don't be scared to live life, to come out and etc but also be mindful that as a group, we still have to deal with bullshit.
Two, don't use this tragedy as an excuse to bullshit. Don't go about being Islamophobic, ready to shit on another person's religion. It shouldn't have to be said that there are plenty of Muslims who are not homophobic or violent and there are openly gay Muslims out there. Be mindful of that.
I'm also weary of gay rights organization like GLAAD and HRC that will take advantage of this despite the fact that they are known to exclude certain members in the LGBT community who aren't white men. Still gotta get your shit together especially if you're going to represent the lgbtq community. It shouldn't take a shooting for folks to acknowledge the existence of some members of our community because they aren't the right skin color or gender.

No surprise about the FBI. The NSI followed two of the 9/11 attackers and were concerned by them and knew they were at a flight school just 3 miles from NSI office in Maryland and then dropped them days later they crashed planes the U.S.A. is great at watching all of us but shit at the rest!

As someone said...the story that he got upset by seeing two men kissing was nonsense. He had seen this hundreds of times.

Apparently the ex-wife said he was gay. He had been to Pulse a number of times before. He probably only pledged allegiance to Allah because he was a self hating closet case and wanted to disguise the attack as "ISIS" when it was just him, a lone wolf. He was a deranged, mentally ill closet case. This is why homophobia is so dangerous, it literally kills.
