Florida High School Massacre

Someone mentioned something a long time ago. I can't remember who or where it was said. The solution really is simple: make the ammunition as expensive as hell. If they can do it for cigarettes, they can do it for bullets.

Great idea.
But its the NRA again, is the NRA want to do that ?

Third-graders in a Missouri community are continuing to sell raffle tickets for an AR-15 to benefit their traveling baseball team after the same type of rifle was used to slaughter and injure dozens at a Florida school.

What if a mentally ill person wins this raffle? I think the problem lies in Americans treating a weapon of mass destruction as simply a prize in a raffle; there is no respect.

^ And, furthermore, the end of the article links to another article: Tyler Tannahill, a Kansas Republican (OF COURSE!) who is running for Congress, is offering an AR-15 as part of his campaign.

As an avid sportsman, I’m excited to announce our first AR-15 Giveaway!

People don't use AR-15's to kill rabbits or even moose. These death machines are only used to kill people...as fast as possible. Knock it off with this fucking sportsman/hunting shit already. Moron.

Durutti apparently isn't familiar with 20th century American history:

I sense a fair degree of variation in the reporting of NRA-Trump numbers.
There's still some investigations going on about how much money came from the NRA:
FBI investigating whether Russian money went to NRA to help Trump
The FBI is investigating whether a top Russian banker with ties to the Kremlin illegally funneled money to the National Rifle Association to help Donald Trump win the presidency, two sources familiar with the matter have told McClatchy.

Because of the age restrictions on JUB, I can't post videos from some of the protests in Miami this weekend but the students from the area are fired-up. In the words of a local commentator: the teenagers sound more like the adults than the politicians do.

I'll just leave this here ....

The population of the United States is almost 330,000,000.
The NRA membership is almost 5,000,000.

Five million Americans own the US Government and the Republicans' wallets are fatter by millions of dollars. It's the fault of the Republicans for allowing it by sucking up to them and brown-nosing 5 million asses.

The reality is that the NRA members don't own the country.

The real owners are the foreign and domestic players pouring huge sums of dark money into the NRA which is then used to buy all the politicians.

Geez, what is wrong with people? God bless Canada.

Yeah. Thank God that the Liberals and NDP in Canada have pushed backed as hard as they have against the NRA and have restricted automatic and semi-automatic firearms.

Bill C-22 would have been even better for controls but the reactionary asshats, assisted by the NRA and the gun industry helped kill the bill.

If we could now only prevent the 78% of all illegal guns used in crimes coming in from the US...we might be even safer.

The power of a cartoon to cut through everything and deliver the irony and the truth! Still, they’ve got prayers and thoughts and that’s working a treat ..... for the NRA.

This is mind boggling. Nothing could have been done to stop Cruz despite all the warnings:

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The warnings around Nikolas Cruz seemed to flash like neon signs: expelled from school, fighting with classmates, a fascination with weapons and hurting animals, disturbing images and comments posted to social media, previous mental health treatment.

In Florida, that wasn't enough for relatives, authorities or his schools to request a judicial order barring him from possessing guns.

Only five states have laws enabling family members, guardians or police to ask judges to temporarily strip gun rights from people who show warning signs of violence. Supporters of these measures, deemed "red flag laws" or gun-violence restraining orders, say they can save lives by stopping some shootings and suicides.

Florida, where Cruz is accused of using an AR-15 assault weapon to kill 17 people at his former high school, lacks such a law. He was able to legally own the semi-automatic rifle, even though his mother, classmates and teachers had at times described him as dangerous and threatening, and despite repeated police visits to his home.

Canada also has a rather intense process for gun ownership. First, you have to take a Canadian Firearms Safety Course and pass the test. You will receive your 'PAL' (Canadian Firearms Licence). Second, you fill out the Application for a Possession and Acquisition Licence (a 4-page PDF form you can see here). This application requires third-party references. Third, you send in the application to the RCMP and wait. There are different courses and tests for non-restricted and restricted firearms. Fourth, go shopping.

Assault and military-style weapons are banned and there is an intense background check:

There is a mandatory background check which includes "criminal, mental health, addiction, and domestic violence records," notes the Library of Congress. Licensing and registration is handled on the national level and must be renewed every five years.

We too have some of the toughest gun laws anywhere. All handguns are banned for civilians, the same for rifles, with the exception of farmers and gamekeepers who may apply for a Shotgun licence, even this is notoriously difficult to obtain.

To be in a hospital ER at one of these shootings has got to be crushing.
