CE&P was pretty interesting and a lot of fun.
But it looks like since the election the gay conservatives are back here in full force.
Oh well ...

I thought that you liberals were supposed to embrace a plurality of viewpoints? Its not very progressive to want an echo chamber without any opposing viewpoint...

Yeah, you're right. But it's only going to be for 2 years. Luckily the Republicans won't have as much time to fuck everything up like they did during Bush's 8 years.

so you like listening to yourself better? ;)

open your eyes and ears - you might learn something

conservatives have good ideas
liberals have good ideas

but it's like my mom says .......... it's not what you say but how you say it

things are always more interesting with divergent views

always

I agree, Chance. However, what has been frustrating is that modern conservatives/Republicans don't really have any ideas, at least none they are willing to express in public. This forum has been full of plenty of Obama hating rhetoric and Democrat bashing. And there are plenty of things Obama has done that disturbs people on the left and much Democrats have done to disappoint. The problem here, and I think it is true of American political discourse in general, is that Republicans and Conservatives don't engage their counterparts on the left in real discussion, with policy proposals or ideas.

It's easy to criticize, but difficult to actually come up with alternatives. Multiple times, some of us have thrown out a challenge to Conservative or Republican JUBBers to tell us what they believe the Republicans should do, or will do. We've yet to get an answer. Political debate is not much fun when the other side simply criticizes, whines and complains about what the President or Congress is doing, but provides no ideas that could form a starting point for discussing alternative policies.

Where is it written that a gay person must be totally left wing??

And US-centric... might as well call the site JustUsBoys.US instead of .com! As a result I just scan CE&P, but it does seem to be very right-wing, as you say.

you know that goes both ways or 3-4 ways

have you seen comments from some on the Left?

also, it depends on how one crafts his question as to if he wants an honest debate.

too many on here like to be the political czar and label people to a party (something you do and did above) there arent that many registered Repubs here

no one is totally innocent tho

There are those on the left who sometimes whine because Obama hasn't done enough fast enough. They can be irritating when their criticisms are off base and unrealistic, but sometimes they are right. Obama hasn't fought hard enough for some of the things he promised during the election. On the other hand, in the 22 months he has been president, he has an impressive legislative record. For example, I find the whole debate (or lack thereof) over extending the Bush tax cuts to be depressing and demoralizing. The Democrats and President Obama seem to have forgotten that part of the role of political leaders is to educate. It is unrealistic to expect people to support big changes if your political leaders are unable or unwilling to articulate how those changes fit into a larger plan to make the country a stronger and better place.

The conservatives and Republicans on JUB simply complain and criticize. There's nothing to talk to them about really because they don't have the balls to put their policy proscriptions forward because they (a) know all they have to offer are the failed policies of the Bush/Cheney years, or (b) they just don't have a clue and are too embarrassed to admit it.

They only see their own viewpoints..And God forbid you disagree, you can be labled a Homophobe, Racist, Nazi, etc.....I am actually lucky to have some intelligent Liberal friends who can concede valid points I make, and I concede the (rare valid points) they have. ;)

I kind of agree with you here. But you have to admit, and I think you did, Candidate Obama, is entirely different from President Obama. It seems even his most Liberal base has no idea where he stands. He seems to be all over the place. Lord knows, I'm not a Bush lover, (in every sense of the term), but it did seem like we knew what we were getting with him.

I think the Midterm Elections just told this Administration, and Congress, what it wants. I voted Republican, because I was tired of the arrogance, and condescension by the Dems. How dare they tell me what's best for me and my life? We elect these people to represent our agenda, not their own personal ones. Repubs, want the spending to stop, Earmarks to be limited or ended, a balanced budget, and Tax cuts for Businesses. Prior to the Elections, we heard about jobs leaving the US. it's because they couldn't afford to do business in the US. Unions are destroying this Economy, along with increasing tax rates. Obamacare would just be another nail in the "coffin"..

i would agree that currently republicans in office (not to be confused with conservatives) are not offering a lot - prob because anti obama is working and why get caught promising something and having to deliver

that is a short term answer - now that the repubs have gained the house - they will have to deliver IMO

HOWEVER

JUB dialogue is not real life - and the liberals who dominate this board by an enormous majority - do not play well in the sand box at all

Most of the high profile JUBBERs here show themselves on a regular basis to regard themselves as "superior" and that not only are liberal ideas smart and intellectually honest but those who spout them are as well

I'm smart - you're dumb

which is laugh out loud funny

it sorta reflects how the american people feel about the liberal "thinks they're the majority" now

they don't want to be talked down to

yet it happens

as for "conservative ideas" here's a couple:

1 - I would rather manage my own money than have the govt. manage it and chose whom/where to redistribute it to
2 - I believe in a strong defense and that America provides much more good in the world internationally than bad
3 - Parents are responsible for their families

That a limited govt. is best in short

I don't think "conservative" and "gay" are mutually exclusive whatsoever

And the default that gay must be liberal is ................ short sighted

I don't think my ideas are better than anyone elses - they're mine

I happen to enjoy profound conversation. I'm also trying to inject some reason into BOTH sides, however futile that effort seems to be. And, I love the other subjects here too. Someone just posted a link to a website called share your boyfriend, WOW!!:-)

It never ceases to amaze me the tolerance some gays give to the harm and ill will leveled against the gay community by the Right-wing in America. It sickens me and leaves me little surprised why a political forum is the only place where large numbers of conservative gays congregate.

not sure how this post fits into this thread

it's a classic stand on the soapbox ......... "how can you think like you do"

with no attempt to understand .......... only derision

being "smart" is only half the battle jockboy

try the other half you might be surprised

I think the reason Liberals on here think that Conservative have no ideas is because they reject the premise that a person outside of their belief structure can have a good idea.

There have been many good ideas offered by Republicans and Conservatives on JUB.

As all Liberals will tell you .... they are smart and everyone else is dumb.

Actually I think that it is quite enjoyable to see the right wing reactionaries, particularly the ones with constantly changing or multiple avatars with few posts swoosh in to bury everyone under their observations and arguments.

Many of these posters are just border-line or full fledged trolls and without their bombthrowing posts and threads, CE&P would become about as boring as watching paint dry.

Granted, the sham 'gay' posters who glorify the homophobic hate mongers are really depressing......to read a thread filled with their defense of T-Baggers, FOX, anti-gay rights republicans and their ilk makes one look at this forum as not being worth the time and input.

But seriously, some of the balanced discussions that look at the politics of gay issues and 'gasp', those 1 in 100 that deal with international events are still entertaining.

Oh come on.

We all know that we have at least one straight posing as a homo on the boards. It wouldn't be unusual. The conservative straights actually have people who follow different gay boards. We nailed one of them a year or so ago.

More recently we saw the demise of the 'alien anchor baby' avatar who actually was a straight guy touting himself as a 'communications' consultant' on another board under his profile there, (but was a homo on this site)...meaning someone who gets paid by someone's campaign funds to sit at home in their parents' basement and masturbate while they flood forums with party line sound-bites that are, not amazingly, being parroted by the republican and t-bag candidates and legislators at the time.

And then there is no doubt that there are a number of legitimate avatars who, because their grand-pappy and daddy always voted republican, would die before they ever voted liberal.

And then we have the 'I hate Obama because he's black and/or he's not Hillary' avatars.

It doesn't take a czar or a scientist or psychologist to pick out the fake homos.

And for some of the others, they may be homosexual but they are anything but gay.

sigh.

I think you meant 'HEAR, HEAR'....

Yep. He reminds me of the teabagger holding up the "Get a brain, morans" protest sign.

It's hard to take this forum seriously anymore. It's been overrun by Obama bashers and the right wing extremists masquerading as Republicans.

I prefer to talk about issues, as opposed to politics, although politics is interesting as well. I think the message of the mid-terms is mixed, because exit polls show that the public holds the Republicans in lower esteem then the Democrats.

I'm curious, though, why you believe unions are destroying the economy. After all, there isn't a single, democratic, industrialized country in the world without a strong, free and independent labor movement. The period of greatest growth in the middle-class in this country, and the period of greatest prosperity for working class people, coincided with the period of highest membership in unions and greatest strength in unions.
