Americans are too paranoid about loosing their freedom just by having common sense regulations.

Exactly. The rest of the western world has freedom of speech. We can criticise the goverment, we can join demonstrations and rallies and oppose legislation. We can say what we think, we just cant spew vile hateful filth at each other.

This issue has been decided in the Supreme Court case Snyder vs. Phelps. It was an 8-1 decision. Hardly a split court. The Freedom of Speech applies to all parties.

Free speech is not negotiable IMO. I don't care how much I hate what someone is saying...I will defend their right to say it.

As it is...The Westies have probably done more to help move along marriage equality and a change in attitudes than anything else because they exhibit the face of homophobia at it's worst.

Hate speech is NOT freedom of speech.

Besides, contrary to what many Americans think, you do not have freedom of speech. You cannot yell "fire" in a crowded theatre. You cannot use racial slurs to discribe a co worker. You cannot comment on certian body parts of a total stranger. How does yelling hateful riligious bile at funerals constitute freedom of speech? Here that'll get you whacked to a pulp. What WBC does is vile, reprehensible, and just plain rude.

It's also completely legal, and they're very careful to stay within the legal bounds of free expression as set forth by SCOTUS.

What's the difference between Westboro Baptist Church and the RC Church?

Answer: None. They're both Christian. But the RC Church is worse because it hates homosexuals on an industrial scale, fucks children on an industrial scale, commits genocide on an industrial scale and can support it all financially because it's richer than god, thanks to its centuries-old, world-wide, political and industrial-scale PR machine. Westboro Baptist isn't scalable.

I'm glad I live in a country where hate speech can land you in prison. Phelps knows he can't set foot on Canadian soil because prison is where he will end up. That's why he sends his cronies to do his work.
