Fuck me... USA does it again -- kids with guns!

I often hear the argument that people own and carry guns to protect themselves, but I rarely hear stories in the news where people die because someone was protecting themselves.

PREACH!! For once I agree with Mr GSDX!!

If this is true, I have never seen them. The only handguns I've ever seen have been in police holsters. I have never in my life seen a handgun drawn and/or aimed at anyone.
Neither have most Americans.

I have been around guns since I can remember, and own guns currently, and never has anyone I know even thought of using them for violence. Guns are not the issue, the issue is a serious breakdown of the american family structure. I have seen a very sad trend in the United States of rude, vile, and disrespectfull children who laugh at authority and dare anyone to say anything. I firmly believe that children are not born bad, but do learn from poor examples and lack of proper guidence. Parents need to spend time with their children, be very involved in the lives of their children and guide them down the correct paths in life. I see too many parents trying to be a friend to their child, and that is wrong, they need to be the parent!! My father ruled the home with a very firm hand liberally applied to a bare ass when we got out of line. Not child abuse, but firm parenting done out of love not anger. Turst me when I say we learned rather quickly to keep in line and stay out of trouble. And the family activities were rewards for us all to enjoy and appreciate. Untill the American family unit is rebuilt, restored and united, we shall see this trend to inappropriate behavior and violent acting out continue. As a child throws a tantrum in a feeble and primative attempt to get their way, so does the older teen act out, but on a more deadly and violent manner. These children are not equipt to deal with their frustrations in life, nor do they know how to deal with difficult issues and to grow beyond their inner rage and anger. So, they lash out in violent, stupid and primative ways all the time thinking they are acting in an adult manner. I honestly don't think there is an easy solution to this violence, I do pray time will repair some of the damage to our family structure.
Wow. I was wondering when someone would finally say it.

Actually i have been back Slobone... and i've explained what it was i was saying since everyone bar the Americans seems to have understood it, i figured i'd better explain it for you.

THis is not a "them and us" posting.. please re-read my posts above....
Yes, you mentioned Kyoto--which has nothing to do with guns--so it really does feel like a bash-America thread.

The only thing John Howard has ever done that I have admired is our gun laws. I hate guns and I don't think anybody should be allowed to have them. Pro gun people never blame guns for doing what they are made to do... its always a million other reasons... bad parenting, psychotic people etc etc.

To GL - its not because you're American that you're damned if you do, damned if you dont.. its because you come across as pig headed and ignorant.

The same rules apply to the same kind of people from ANY nation.

Joe, I hope you are not calling me pig headed and ignorant. If you are, then the only thing I can tell you is that I am very sorry that your vision of the world is so narrow minded that you would paint anyone who does not subscribe to your way of thinking as such. If so, you really do not know me at all. You do not know the work I do or the visits to my elected officials. I would ask you not to judge me until you've done as I do.

What always surprises me is that we as Americans do not start threads here dictating how we feel you Brits, Aussies, Canadians, et all should run your countries or what agendas we think would be best for you all. And yet, everyone else feels that they have the right to do the same for us. And better yet, when we do not agree with all of you as to how our country should be run, you paint us with the 'pig headed and ignorant' brush. Think about it.

I think this is the last I am going to say on this subject. This issue of gun control seems to be a hot point for everyone else who does not live here in the U.S. of A. Have any of you thought that perhaps this issue is not as important as say, the coming election in November where many of us hope to see a shift in power? Or perhaps we are more concerned with the war in Iraq, the ongoing 'war on terror' or possibly the fact that corporations have too much sway in American politics? These things do weigh on my mind. More so than gun control. Why? Because I think the gun control we have is sufficient for our needs. Anyhow, I'm done. Go ahead and flame away. I've said my peace.

THANK YOU. :=D: :=D: :=D:

Everybody else seems to feel the need to try to make us feel like shit. Why is that? I don’t make it my goal to point out flaws in other people or their country, yet, others feel the need to do it to us.

If I might comment on this, I would like to say that Canada and the US share the largest undefended border in the world. You cannot tell where one country ends and the other begins.

That causes big problems in itself. It is very difficult to keep things from leeching from one country into the other. Except for Canadian talent, however, it is, for all intents and purposes, a one-way leech. The US influences Canada far more than you may think. We were told how to handle the 'gay marriage' issue here and, when we did not comply with your wishes, we were shunned and condemned. When we refused to join a war we did not believe in, we were unneighbourly. We are often blamed for the problems in the US.

We are inundated by American ideals on a daily basis. You can go for months, if not years, not hearing anything about Canada. We can barely go a few minutes without hearing about the United States. What's worse is that we are expected to abide by those ideals. Because we have laws against hate propoganda, we are censoring our citizens instead of protecting those to whom the 'hate' is aimed. Our strict gun laws are a waste of tax payers' money in trying to enforce them, but our gun laws protect our citizens for the most part. The US is making that very difficult to do, though.

The Brits and Aussies are protected from those influences. They read about it in the news or see it on television. Canadians live with it every day of their lives. The only way we can protect ourselves is to try to protect you from yourselves. We are not trying to change your ideals to ours, we are simply trying to point out a serious problem which we, as outsiders, see going on all the time. We simply cannot understand how mass murder can be defended by a few words in your Constitution when all the other words around them are completely ignored.

Yet again.. typical example of Americans feeling all sorry for themselves.

Please take the time to read in DETAIL post #44.

GL if you are happy with your gun controls then it is indeed a shame. I wonder if you'd feel the same if a child you knew had his head blown off by some wacko kid who managed to get his hands on his dads pump action shotgun....

Would you still then feel that gun legislation was "sufficient"?

I know I said I wasn't going to say anything more but...

Joe, I did have a friend who commited suicide and shot himself with his dad's .38. It was all very sad I miss him to this day. But I knew well enough then that he was in a whole world of hurt and if he didn't have the gun, he would have done himeself in with something else. The gun itself is not the issue. So back off if you please.

You’re right. I think it’s time for you guys to gather all 300 million of us and start an intervention.

But hey, since all of Canada's problems are caused by the bully to the south, you should let us all murder each other, then you guys can live in peace and perfection.

This is gonna go on for tiime, innit?
Back & Forth, and such..

Teenager shot in back in attack

A 17-year-old youth has been shot in the back in north Belfast, the police have said.

He was walking along Ardoyne Avenue with some friends at about 0030 BST when a man appeared from a nearby alley and fired a shotgun at them.

The youth - who was hit in the arms, leg and back - was taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Two other youths were hit with pellets, but did not require hospital treatment.

Police have said they are investigating a possible motive for the attack and have appealed for information.

I wonder where that gun came from?

There is no reason for hackles to be raised. I was simply pointing out how difficult it is to be friendly neighbours.

As former prime minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau once said:

"Living next to you is in some ways like sleeping with an elephant. No matter how friendly and even-tempered is the beast, if I can call it that, one is affected by every twitch and grunt."

You know, I understand that 100%.

But don't go blaming all your problems on us. Take responsibility for your own country's problems.
