Funny anti-religious Internet pics

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

Even the Bile says to do that -- its greatest compliment in the New Testament is given to people who didn't take Paul at his word, but did their own thinking about it.

It's why some of the greatest scholars in the world on many subjects are found in religious garb.

I was raised in the Church of Christ. When I still went to church while stationed in Incirlik AB the chaplain's office was completely confused by our small congregation. They normally arranged to collect the portion of a congregation's donations that were sent to the mother church of that religion and could not understand that that there was no hierarchy ABOVE the individual congregation in the Church of Christ. The elders and minister of the congregation was it and they were appointed by the congregation.

If Jesus is the gateway to God's holy kingdom, and you don't accept that, then by that aren't you damned for not believing? Despite all the good deeds a person had made and done during his lifetime, if God does not receive the praise and worship for being the creator, then that poor soul is damned is he not? So, Buddhists for example, they neither worship your god or his various supposed incarnations. They are outside the scope of the Abrahamic religions, by the reckoning of biblical scholarship, they are not welcomed to the promiseland are they?

The answers to that among Christian scholars cover a broad spectrum.

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

My mostly uneducated theory is, the land mass between Spain and Morocco broke through with the rising sea levels of the last major ice age and caused a tsunami in the Mediterranean sea. Some merchant selling indigenous live stock (goats, chickens, pigs, cows...?) had a few of each who used the sea as transportation got lucky and survived... the story has been embellished since from all the uneducated superstitious people who lived there at the time making the flood global, the animals world wide, and the "Ark" much bigger than it really was.

Of course surviving such a disaster surely was miraculous, and would have required prior help/knowledge from "God".

It's interesting that the wording in the Bible doesn't assert that it was global -- of course they didn't know the world was a globe, so they wouldn't actually say it that way, anyway. It just says all "the land", which in context probably means the known or inhabited world.

That's been referred to as the intermediate position between papism and the Baptist approach which makes every believer his/her own pope.

Fr. Georges Lemaitre was one. And there are Jesuit physicists who have worked at CERN/LHC. Additionally, there are living Nobel science award recipients who are Christian, Jewish, Muslim, and other religions -- a whole batch of Jewish ones, in fact, something which drives Richard Dawkins up a wall.

I was not doubting your word, I just hate it when people are vague and retain the actual information in their statements, as you just actually did again..: a scientist is merely a technnician achiever in a very specific field, so you can not expect any of them to articulate all those specific fields in one whole discourse, siumply because that is not their job and it goes beyond their ability and technical capacity... that is why Western science is doomed in its fragmentary form and the ignorance the general public has of it beyond the derived technological benefits they get from it all, while religion offers a whole discourse that even those against it have firmly imprinted on their minds, and why you can ultimately have capable scientists who, beyond their field of expertise, they are just as ignorant or as pious as anybody else.
That is never said often enough...

The Church of Christ is in most cases Baptists without the organ or piano. For some reason a tenant of their beliefs is that one praises God with ones voice and not with musical instruments to drown out the poor singers. Never did figure out why that particular aspect was so important.

Theologically, in the Church of Christ the local congregation is the doctrinal authority; in Rome, it's the Pope; in Baptist "theology", it's the individual.

The music thing is really stupid, since the Bible describes praising God with musical instruments.

Does the bible say anything about Christian Rock being a punishment from god for people who enjoy music?
