Funny anti-religious Internet pics

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

You fail to explain why. Sure, your version is less ridiculous, and much less hateful, but it's false all the same.

Mine relies on scholarship and has no problems with science. Theirs relies on avoiding scholarship and mutilating science.

To put it another way, a desire for investigation brought me to my position. A desire for investigation only leads away from theirs.

So Kulindahr, You contend that atheists ignore evidence and reason in dismissing religious claims; I accept that you hold this position sincerely. In contrast, I contend that theists ignore evidence and reason in dismissing fair-mided doubts about religious claims, and I assure you this position is sincerely held.

What sort of dialogue would be productive in arriving at the situation where we could have a common basis of reason on which to evaluate each other's claims?

@519 LOL I was wondering how they did anything, let alone eat, while being draped in a tent. It's a shame that this form of control over women is even allowed in the civilized world.

I love it!

A planet of kittens . . . I presume ones that would never grow up, so they'd always be playful and cuddly and adorable.

Get 'em stoned! An old acquaintance of mine had a 5 year-old cat the size of a kitten. He would clam-bake the poor thing under a fish tank.

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

johaninsc, a lot of the cartoons you post suggest that atheists are incredibly ignorant, blind, prejudiced, and judging things without knowing what they're talking about. On that basis, given the theme of a lot of those cartoons, I can rightly conclude that atheists are generally very religious.

Oh come on! You are severely lacking something if you cannot see where they are coming from Kuli

There isn't any evidence I ignore, though that is a common disease among Christians -- fundamentalists especially.

As a first step, it would help if atheists learned what the word "faith" actually means. A video posted in another thread does an excellent job of addressing that, and shows what I've been saying consistently: that faith first of all means trust. Despite the abuse of a certain concept by Kierkegaard, faith is not "belief without evidence", it's trust on the basis of limited evidence, primarily testimony; that "leap of faith" isn't across a huge gap, it's from the end of a bridge of evidence that falls short of reaching all the way.

FWIW, I feel the same way about Christians who make claims about evolution without having a clue what they're talking about as about atheists who bash Christianity in/from ignorance. In both cases, attacks or caricatures founded on ignorance merely serve to show the author(s) to be ignoramuses.

And here is our problem. I make a sincere effort to confirm whether atheists could be overlooking something and ask your advice on the subject. You blithely assert that the corresponding situation is impossible.

There is a great deal that you neglect, Kulindahr, and the conversation is poorer for it. Are you that confident? Can you truly pose that bald statement without any fear of hubris?

This one is sooooo bad...

Converse. The word I was looking for is "converse."
