Anyone with the attitude on the right isn't reading his book properly (assuming it's the Bible).

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

Actually that's very inaccurate. The proper comparison is proving that someone loves you. By the strict rules invoked by most atheists, it can't be done -- in fact, by those rules, love doesn't exist.

Love is an emotional state, and there is plenty of evidence that this emotional state exists. People who claim to be "in love" behave in markedly different ways from people who are not. Studies of the brain show that certain areas are activated by feelings of love.

Kuli, I'm intrigued by your relationship with the church.
There seems to be both love and hate; do have you a Credo here on JUB?

Religious institutions are human arrangements which inevitably accumulate and try to wield power. Power corrupts, so inevitably religious institutions, as with all institutions, become corrupt. In general, the level/degree of corruption is related to the length of time the institution has been around.

Not sure what you mean by a "Credo" -- you mean like the Apostles' Creed?

But feelings are merely opinions. By the rules commonly invoked here, there's no feelings, just brain activity.

Feelings and brain activity are not mutually exclusive. Feelings are the result of chemical activity in the brain.

Yes. I'm assuming it's too complex or serious to be in Hot Topics and I admit I've rarely ventured into the Religion, Spirituality & Philosophy forum.

Religious convictions are human arrangements which inevitably fester within and try to gain authority. Authority corrupts, so inevitably religious convictions, as with all convictions, become corrupt. In general, the level/degree of corruption is related to the length of time the conviction has been festering around.

I love this one

makes me think that religion is doomed

Yes, but despite the fact that there is so much access to correct information, there's also access to total BS. Many articles on websites like Wikipedia have been corrupted by people with a pro-Christian agenda, thereby spreading misinformation.

A great example is the article on Wikipedia called "The Historical Jesus." It makes completely erroneous claims.

"The Historical Jesus" wiki is mostly a survey of historical scholarship on Jesus. I didn't notice too much pro-Christian agenda?? But I didn't read the "Historicity of Jesus" wiki; is that one more loaded?

Yes. It was in fact the "Historicity of Jesus" article. I will, however, have to eat crow because most of what I took offense at is gone.

I do still question the veracity of some parts of the article.
