I went to a different barber today as the other two choices were closed. I sat in the chair and proceeded to get a hair cut. Something on the television got this barber into a religious rant against homos. He told me he had moved to this location 2 years ago because homos bought the building he had previously rented and he refused to give homos any money. Then he began quoting scriptures and telling me that homos were creating a modern day Sodom and Gomorrah. My question to you is how do I tell the HOMOS around here not to patronize him?:help:

You could start by telling us where it is.

Also, give him bad reviews on the local sites. More people are looking up phone numbers and directions online than ever so there is a chance a bad review would be seen.

I have to find out his name and address I just wanted to get out of there

Wait, you were in a barber shop and you didn't know the name of the barber, or the location of the shop? How the hell did you get there?

JonJon,

I think I would have gotten up and walked out when he started talking about "homos".

I have zero tolerance for people like that. I wouldn't have paid nor would I have given him a reason. I would have just got up and walked out.

Sorry that had to happen to you but as others have said I would find somewhere on line to give him a bad review too.

I hope you didn't give him a tip!

I would put an ad up on Craigslist Rants & Raves section, and maybe Angie's List (I've never used that site, but it seems like the right place for this).

Craigslist sucks because the ad is gone in a day, replaced by the new day of ads. Yes it stays there but people usually don't scan more than a couple days worth of ads. You would have to keep posting it daily.

Jonjon, sorry about your experience. No one should have to endure anything like that. If I were you I would tell everyone you know about the barber shop and not to patronize it anymore. I would also find out the name of the owner and give him/her a piece of your mind. You're there to get a service not a sermon. Personally, I always go to a salon where I know the stylist. Yes, I do prefer my stylists to be gay men so sue me!

I would have looked him square in the eye and said "this homo isn't giving you any money." Got up and walked out. I don't care if he was half way through my cut or not. Bastard. I'd post on Craig's list and Angies as well. If there is a local gay newspaper or magazine I'd call them and see if they would like to do a story on this guy. They may have a section for reviews or "rants/raves" where you could let others know about your experience.

Sorry this happened to you. Don't let him get away with it. There is plenty you can do.

Steven.

You get up, take the clippers out of his hand and push it right through the middle of his hair. Then you tell him to fuck off and have a "FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAABULOUS DAY!!!!"

Or you can cut his throat with the scissors. I vote for the latter.

I would have got up, given this Floyd the barber a kiss on the cheek and hightailed out of Mayberry.

I would have told him I'm gay...and then see what happens.

• Write a letter to any local straight and gay press, identifying the business and what happened

• Post reviews on any local review sites

• Write a letter to the barber himself, telling him you felt insulted or even threatened. Include copies of the letters to press.

Use your own networks - facebook, twitter, whatever you have - friends - friends of friends - it's a quick easy way to get information out.

Are you in the US? If so, I'd register a complaint with the local Better Business Bureau. You might be able to get an investigation and some action if your jurisdiction has laws that protect equality in public accommodations. If not, it won't be more than symbolic, but at least you'd have a registered complaint.

I think you were correct in finishing the haircut and getting out of there without self identifying. The guy is a kook and obviously doesn't want gay business. Also, complaining to him will get the same results. I'm sorry you were put though this.

The best that could happen would be to tell this story to every straight friend you know. Hopefully only the wingnuts would enjoy this type of chatter while getting a haircut.

In a way, I'm glad he outed himself as a homophobe. At least you won't inadvertently go back.

But when gay-haters rant on Youtube and other websites, nobody here cares...

When they violate the YouTube's CoC yes they do. But if they aren't doing anything in violation of the rules, what are we supposed to do? We can flag the videos all we want, but if they aren't violating the rules, YouTube isn't going to do anything.

I would tell the local gay organization, get a story in the local gay rag and then get 50 gay guys to go in and get their hair cut to show him that no one is afraid of his silly opinions.

Bring snacks and make it a party.
