This phenomena isn't unique to the Netherlands though. In the last two years ive increasingly had to defend myself, always against young muslim men. And after my last fight midsummer, i traded my flipflops for boots and started carrying a knife and let it stick out of my backpocket, and i have to say, since then, i haven't had any homophobic remarks, people hardly even stare anymore. It's hardly the ideal solution though, having to look meaner and be armed.

I've heard about this, although I didn't know it was this bad. Of course, one problem is the question: which is worse, the muslims or the right wingers who want them out.

Why don't they pass anti gay violence acts, with automatic expulsion, and repatriation for people who attack gays? Take cam-phone pic/video as proof for fast tracking.

in NYC, they've also seen an up tick in anti gay violence. The hatred is so deep seeded in so many male minds.

...I guess it's rather because of the euthanasia part that he was right wing.

Unfortunately, the situation with Muslim immigrants is true for all western Europe. Many politicians still try to be PC and argue with the openness of a multicultural society, while native lowerclass citizens, who have to live amongst a whole neighbourhood of immigrants, are pissed.

Well first of all, i think immigration should be limited to those who's cultures are compatible with western values.

Second, i think citizenship, like employment, should come with a probationary period.

If they want sharia they should go back home, sucks you wont have any job there, but hey, at least there are no homos there either, right?

reads like typical fear-mongering to me. i walk "the streets" of amsterdam every day, and "the sharia law" cetrainly does not "rule" it. and i live in a area that has a pretty high muslimic population (amsterdam oost), and im "visibly gay", skinny jeans and fancy scarfs and all.

i have only once encountered homophobic physical violence in amsterdam, and it was by caucasian dutch guys and girls. (nothing dramatic, though, fortunately)

i would have to agree with probation, compatibility between cultures.

immigration is a privilege not a right, and its not up to the current citizens to bear the brunt of any type of religious violence coming from outsiders.

Compared to most cities, it's still pretty good. Compared to what it was like ten years ago, it's pretty aweful.

While for some reason Turks and Moroccans are always mentioned here in one breath, but it's mainly the North-Africans who cause disproportionate mayhem, and it's not just in the 'big' Dutch cities either.

Whenever there are more than a few of these 'people' together things go 'down south' fairly quickly; see Spain, see France, see Belgium, see the Netherlands, see Denmark, see Sweden.

Germany is probably next.

If you ask some politically active people for the reason why they are "Islamophobic", it's not because they see religions as something backwards, but because they feel their holy christian religion (which stands above all etc.) to be threatened So it's basically a "my cock is bigger than yours" competition instead of being reasonable.

We have got a lot of muslim immigrants in Spain in the last years and homosexuality acceptance is higher now than never before. I didn't feel that gay hate when I've been in Netherlands but it was just for some days.

I think you're being pretty prejudiced right now. I'm actually a little upset that you are kind of bashing all religions and supporting one (in a sense) that is just as "hateful" as the other. Also, I think it's a little shitty that you are bashing all of christianity. I'm a christian, and I'm gay, and I know that my entire church could care less. They might not agree with my choice, but they don't reprimand me, and they don't throw stones at me, so stop blaming the actions of a few bad christians on the whole of the religion, and live a little more open minded than your "left-wingedness"
