Sadly you are probably more right than wrong. Modern medical procedures are a blessing but are very easily misused without the right morals and ethics.

John Stuart Mill made a good argument that excluding any sort of people or any viewpoint from a society will be detrimental to that society's health, so long as the group is not seeking to destroy the society. We can apply the same question pro-life groups ask: what if Beethoven's mother had gotten an abortion? or Newton's? or Alexander Fleming's? In the present case, though, it isn't a random assortment of individuals, but an entire class of people known to produce more than their fair share of good work in the arts, if nowhere else.

It is a question anyone should ask at any time, but in a society short on solutions to massive problems, "curing" anything that adds variety to our race and has been allowed by God or provided by evolution (or both) is a bit like giving a permit to B.P. to drill for oil without inspections of their facilities.

With regard to cultural advantage, I'll pass on any Avatar references. But I would instead say gays often have a culturally unique perspective that we contribute to the culture. Compounding that, gays are less likely to have children or the responsibilities that go with children, and are more free to contribute to the cultural life of society. If you accept the belief that Leonardo da Vinci was homosexual, you might ask: would have have done all he did if he'd been encumbered with a wife and another baby every year or two?

This is actually a really good point. I suppose we are around being productive and we make it (maybe just the littlest bit) easier for the rest of society to have all their babies. I resent your comparison of us to bee drones though haha. We're much more hedonistic lol.

And I mean I don't know if my life will be as hard as yours either (depending on how much older you are than me). I mean for most people my age that I associate with, the people that would pick on a gay for being gay are the ones that are socially reprimanded....and I know that not that long ago it was the other way around. But I mean there's so many things that I wish I could do, like go to a college party and hook up with some random chick or go to a regular bar or club and buy a girl a drink. Without the whole hassle of having to tell if the person is the same sexuality and possibly be wrong.

Although there's an LOL at the end, Ithink you've confused your bees. I didn't compare us to drones, though drones are quite hedonistic by bee standards - they only live to mate. It's worker bees who don't.

But on the bigger picture I'd just say: I never wished I was straight, and still don't.

I have a friend, Deb, of hispanic bacround, who converted to judaism because her intended husband was jewish.

I guess my point is where do we draw the line? is there a line to be drawn? when do we take a woman's right to choose away from her? Late term abortions are one place that most people generally agree.... will there be more exceptions as time goes on, and will the gay gene be one of them?

I am forty five years old. I wan't around for stonewall. I was around for the aids crisis and its backlash against gays.

I would just remind you that we in Boston can go to a mainstream Pub and generally be accepted. That is not really the case for most of the people in America. It is something that we need to work for in ALL states... to get equal protection and rights under the law across the nation.

as for being striaght and having the dating process easier, I disagree. I hang out with just as many straight young guys, who are film students, and they seem to have more issues than we do. We can go to a gay bar and have a reasonable expectation that those there are at least interested in my sex.

Straight people have just as many if not more complex issues with dating and going out.

In a number of human societies, gay unions have been held in honor for this reason: they are free of offspring, and thus able to do more 'for the tribe'. This was true in Hawaii, and if the Calvinist missionaries hadn't eviscerated local culture, that would be honored there today. In some Polynesian cultures, gay couples were considered gifts from the gods.

You can't make sense of their beliefs. But I'm sure some would consider it a challenge to prove God is greater than genes.

It is my understanding that researchers found several years ago, more than 10 years to be more precise, that homosexuality was linked to the development of a certain area in the brain which predisposes the person to a sexual preference regardless of the person own gender.
