"Gay" kiss on Oprah, audience gasps.

Although, right after that, the audience, much to their surprise and delight, were told to look under their seats, where a free bottle of Astro Glide awaited them.... (OH, that *Oprah*....) ;)

I'm just tired of Oprah's being so self-congratulatory. "I did this for the poor, and I did this for African children, and I did this for abused wives. . ." Self promotion to the max.

I just saw the last 15 minutes or so of Oprah and her guest was Mrs. McGreevy.
They showed a clip of Mr. McGreevy and his new boyfriend and in it they kissed each on the on the lips. The kiss was just a peck and lasted less than a second. The audiance let out a horrified gasp. WTF, her audiance is comprised mostly of women and presumably liberal so I couldn't believe they gasped. It is 2007, isn't it?

If you watched the whole show, you were probably homophobic too after you heard everything Jim McGreevey did to his wife while cheating on her with a guy.

I think Oprah should have given her a real opportunity to address the rumors she's anti-gay. I was waiting for "I hate my jerk ex-husband, but it's important not to misinterpret that as hostility towards the gay community." But from her point of view, she probably does hate us all. I can't imagine what she went through, but again, I found her annoying and didn't have as much sympathy for her as I probably should have.

Her hairdress is gay.

Nate Berkus, her interior designer and frequent guest is big time gay and open about it.

Where's the homophobic Oprah?

Anybody that goes from dirty poor to filthy rich (billionaire plus and counting) and is doing good for women, people of color and gays... they can self congratulate themselves all they want.

Maybe it was like a romantic "oooh, that's so sweet" gasp. Or was it really a shocked and horrified "I hate fags" gasp?

I don't think it's 'homophobic Oprah' at all...

She didn't gasp, the audience did. You have to keep it in context. Oprah's
show, along with lots of other daytime talk shows, are, as Bill Maher puts it,
"all about making women nod."

In other words, Oprah has a gift of getting a room full of people to agree with most anything she is saying at the time, and on that particular day, the tone was all about 'the deceitful closeted gay husband, and the poor 'last one to know' wife.

The collective gasp over the kiss wasn't homophbic so much as it was an expression of outrage over what he had put this woman through...

Hmm, well I haven't read either book, but I can see I'm going to have to.

I wonder if she was all that clueless about what was going on. Don't wives usually know when their husband is cheating? Maybe she was in denial.

And she certainly is getting a lot of mileage -- not to mention money -- out of her trauma. Would she by any chance have any motive for exaggerating how bad she feels?

I can't believe this is what you guys are fighting about! Talk about blowing nothing into something!

I certainly do not want to come across as a holier than thou jerk here...but
the gasp was more about McGreevy's disrespect and insulting actions toward his wife .....

He was doing the nasty with his gay lover in his marriage bed while his wife was in the hospital in labor with their daughter!! Thats disguisting!!!

and besides....I think he is butt ugly!!!!

I think it was because of hearing all the things he did to her and finally seeing proof of it. Mind you, I think he's a skunk but exploiting the way she is is wrong too. Their children have enough to deal with without mom and dad airing everything out in public.

Gasp was probably for the poor taste of the staff showing it in front of the woman who's feeling pretty shattered and angry right about now.
