This is OUTRAGEOUS! This is a SCANDAL! This is WHOLLY UNACCEPTABLE! We cannot allow some quickly declining second-world country to be more progressive and respectful of human rights than our own Greatest Nation On Earth! Give us gay marriage in Italy NOW ;)

My parents were born there. Guess why they moved to Europe? But of course I'm happy for the gays over there. I'm just sick of waiting for Italy to enter the 21st century.

Italy doesn't have civil marriage for gays?? I thought all of Western Europe had it

The walls of the Pope's bower grow ever closer inwards...

Heh. The Pope has gays prowling his halls -- though they're probably not Jesuits.

Italy was still in the 16th century when the rest of Europe reached the eighteenth. Why should they break a long tradition?

What I find interesting here is that Argentina was the #1 country where Nazi refugees fled after WW II. Now if a country that got a large influx of totalitarian, fascist influence can get this right, then ...

WTF is wrong with the U.S. of A.?????

What did you do that for?

Feeling kinda random this morning, I guess.

And being sarcastic 'cause some of the people I've been around lately don't seem to care much about the world farther than a hundred miles away.

And cabin fever -- after a week, my truck is still in the shop, and we're getting hit with rain at a rate of 3" to 5" in 24 hours, so pedaling isn't really an option, especially with the 70 mph winds.

Ok. Well. I was hoping that I would catch some of my fellow gays with a bit of good news.

Argentina is about to pass historic legislation. It would be a first for South America. It's a very big deal. Curious, not very much attention is being made to it. It's sort of one of those events that pops up in the news on you unexpectedly because nobody reads the incidents in the legislative processes of foreign nations.

I don't know where in South America I would have expected to lead the way, but it wouldn't have been Argentina, with their authoritarian streak.

I found a source online stating that 33 of the 72 senators support the bill, while 27 oppose it and 12 are undecided/won't say/abstaining from voting, so it has a better chance then previously reported by many sources.

Also Jockboy, Slovenia is not far behind either. The same sex marriage bill passed the first reading back in March. I assume the second reading will come sometime soon.

Iceland will likely beat Argentina though, since a vote there is expected to happen by June 23. Also, same sex marriage in Nepal will be delayed for up to one year, due only to the fact that the parties cannot agree on certain aspects of the constitution (same sex marriage is a non-issue since it was court ordered).

The same sex marriage bill was introduced in Iceland back in March. Assuming it's voted on in time (which I don't see why it wouldn't be since they have a lesbian Prime Minister and very strong national support), the law is scheduled to take effect June 23.

I think Albania is in the same situation as Nepal. The only reason the same sex marriage bill was not introduced was due to the fact that too many members of Congress were on strike for alledged voter fraud in the last election. As soon as that ends marriage equality can pass (in Albania it takes 84 votes to ammend the Family Code, and not just a simple majority of 71 of the 140 members of Parliment). I also read that the governments of Finland and Germany are planning to legalize gay marriage next year.

All that I know is that the German Parliment plans to introduce a bill to legalize same sex marriage either by the end of this year (when the next legislative session begins) or the beginning of next year. I gotta say I'm surprised Denmark hasn't made any efforts to legalize same sex marriage.

This is so romantic. I wonder if they're gonna do a black-and-white wedding?

Hi everyone. Haven't posted in a while but I've been following. I can't believe all the great news lately for our rights and for those of us around the world.

Argentina, Iceland, Germany, Nepal, Luxembourg, and Albania. All these countries passing legislation or court orders for the right to marry who we love will bode well for the US and the races you run there.

I believe 2000-2100 will be the century for the LGBT.

It is great to see progress in gay marriage in the world today. But here in the USA we must deal with the hypocrites of the GOP and the religious right who will use there power of hate, intolerance and prejudice to stop gay marraige.

Funny in those states where gays have married the world is still here and will be tomorrow.

Guyana I believe is next or will French Guyana beat them to gay marriage. They have such a small government everything gets passed in a hurry! or rejected.

Guyana? Guyana is the last place in South America where homosexuality is still illegal, so it won't be there. French Guyana is an overseas department of France, i.e. it's a part of France in the same sense as Hawaii is a part of the U.S., except that French departments can't set their own marriage laws like U.S. States, so it will change when France changes its laws.

The next in S. America is probably Uruguay, since they already have Civil Unions and gay adoption.

The Argentine Senate General Law Committee committee is going to take a little field trip from June 14 to June 28 to tour the provincial capitals.

Exactly what they are going to do, ontopmag would not say. Looking at exhibits of gay couples in the zoo perhaps? Who knows.

The full Senate according to ontopmag is going to consider the legislation on July 14. I did not delve deeply in the entirely Spanish website for the Argentine Congress in order to corroborate that.

The fate of the marriage bill, which has already passed the lower house, is still uncertain, with an equal number of senators supporting and opposing, with a sizable 17 undecided.

Well at least the International community has the Iceland victory to celebrate for a while.

Tour the provincial capitals.... boy, is that open to speculation!!!
