I know there is already an existing thread for gay marriage updates in the US, but I feel like this deserves extra attention because it really is no holds barred:

Also, the Log Cabin Republican NY chapter has signed onto the coalition as well.

I wasn't feeling good about the prospects back in November, but now I think it actually has a good chance of passing.

I'm still pessimistic given the math of how many vote pickups are needed and what just happened in Maryland.

-New York ain't Maryland. It's MUCH more liberal on social issues

-Krueger is basically forced to vote yes because voting no after being outed is publically humiliating, especially for Democrats

-Huntley indicated she would vote yes to be the deciding vote

-I've spoken to people at Addabbo's office, and they were VERY shocked he voted no last time (likely for the same reasons as Republicans)

-several Republicans were ready to vote yes in 2009, but the whip count failing killed it, so there was no point. If all Democrats except Diaz flip to yes, we only need 3 Republicans out of 32

-Cuomo is determined to make this happen. His approval rating is astronomical, so Republicans are more likely to work with him then against him

-We are actually organized this time around, and strongly organized at that

According to this, they've never won a major election outside of state office (not even the Scozzfava election).

Then wiki is wrong. William F. Buckley's brother, James, was elected to the United States Senate on the Conservative Party line in the early sixties. The rest of the vote was split among a liberal Republican, a liberal party member, and a Democrat. The three liberal candidates split the liberal votes and he squeaked in. I think he only got slightly more than 30% of the vote. Of course, he only served one term.

Okay whatever. The endorsement of the Conservative Party of New York doesn't mean much. That's what I meant to say. Most people don't like voting for people they know don't have a chance of winning, so even if the CPONY doesn't endorese them it's not like they'll vote Democrat.

"On Monday, Quinn indicated that she had made progress in a recent lobbying trip to Albany, the state capital. She reported on a promising conversation with a senator who had been a “very disappointing ‘no’ vote on marriage.”

“When I met with this senator last week, at the end of the meeting, the senator said to me, ‘I will make sure that your father gets to see you dance at your wedding,’” said Quinn."

IMO she's likely talking about Addabbo or Alesi.

Good luck to my gay brothers in New York from a Jubber in Old York. It's time this was voted through in the whole of the US.

^^^Well we will with that attitude!

Republicans control the Senate.

nuff said

No majority Republican legislative body has ever voted for gay marriage.

The day that happens, I will stop being eternally pessimistic when it comes to gay issues and Republicans.

^^^Well one has to be the first right? New York Republicans are different from those in other areas of the country. I'll say it time and time again, last time no Republican voted for it because it was destined to fail, so it wasn't worth the risk (you don't need to be a psychologist to see Alesi wanted to vote Yes). We now have more confirmed Yes votes, and a governor who works well with the Republican Party pushing for the Senate to pass it like there is now tomorrow.

Why don't you quit complaining and help out with the effort?

I would have thought that some of the fairie dust would have settled on New York from the Canadian side of the great lakes.

We're keeping our fingers crossed for all you guys.
