For guys that seek out straight guys: how do you know for sure he is straight? Do you just take his word for it?
I think I posted this once before in a different thread, but here goes:
His word + evidence + probability.
Let's say a guy says he's straight. He acts straight.* Just to make it more interesting, we'll say he's married. Now, add to all this the fact that at least 90% of men are heterosexual. In the end, you might not
know with absolute certainty, but you can be pretty sure he's straight.
*There are ways of seeming and acting straight that are more than just masculinity
per se. It's hard to define, but I know it when I see it.
On a related topic: There have been a lot of comments in this thread about masculinity, and how some gay men like straight men because they're more masculine. I agree with that, but I don't think we can completely overlook biology. The most masculine thing a man can do is father a child; when you get right down to it, that's the reason the male sex exists: to provide sperm to propagate the species.
Maybe we internalize that idea, so that, for some, it is literally impossible for a gay man to be as masculine as a straight man because he doesn't have sex with women (that is, doesn't fulfill his evolutionary purpose).
I'm sure most straight-male-loving gays do not think it through to that extent, but I'll bet that's at least part of the source of attraction to straight men.
