Gay Men, Comic Books, and Geeking Out

THANKS! Always glad to hear about longtime fans :) Hope to see some comments and ratings (CLICK THE STARS ABOVE MY POSTS AT THE SITE) from you and any of the other gay geeks lurking about in this thread or at HnH. I can never get enuf comments over there. I know from my numbers that the readers are out there, but it's always nice when they speak up - if only to say "hi - cool blog" or tell me about something you'd like to see me research.

I thought of some additional geeky things to mention. My apartment looks like a rich 4th grader lives here. I have a multi-tiered DCDirect Display that includes the Teen Titans, JLA and JSA.

I have Marvel Legends displays for X-Men, Avengers and FF but they come down at Christmas to make room for the tree.

Also have the Muppets Backstage Playset populated with Muppet action figures as decor in my bedroom. But I've been lucky enough to find a sweet BF who enjoys my living space even though he doesn't share my comics habit. He is a geek for news/politics, but I've indoctrinated him with episodes of Battlestar Galactica, Heroes, Buffy, The Event and Supernatural.

Interest in toys is not limited to collecting... I designed the 3D prototypes for the early 2000s PALz series from Palisades Toys (block figures based on X-Files AND Buffy TVS).

and hope u don't mind braex27 - but I'm totally gonna blog on the remake of Being Human - tho not sure how they can call a remake of a Brit show that is heading into season 2 an "original series."

damn good... except technically Starfire is in the first row - but she's flying so she's up higher.

My X-Men villain display is next to the DC Direct - hence a bit of old Apocalypse is in the shot.

The short dude is Damien Wayne... I knew he'd become a Teen Titan eventually. He'll be replaced by the new version of him as Robin when it comes out.

NO Mary Marvel, Mera, Ragman, B'wanna Beast, or Prez. Just card carrying members of the JLA/JSA or Teen Titans (for more than 5 minutes).

I had Hawks but they shelf-dove and their wings broke. And they too damn big to work into the display with the wings anyway so I didn't replace them.

gay geeks who play City of Villains (or City of Heroes if you are willing To Go Rogue)... talk to "Pool Boy" - my global if u wanna team on Virtue Server sometime.

OK I have now COMPLETELY geeked out so I'll leave the rest of you to share your own geeky traits...

And remember there are MANY shades of geekdom. As far as I'm concerned ANYONE who follows anything semi-obsessively has some geek in em. There are Comics Geeks, Game Geeks, Sci-Fi Geeks, RenFair Geeks, Larping Geeks - but we are the frivolous fun side. Don't forget the Math Geeks, Science Geeks, Insanely Brilliant Science Geeks, Space Geeks, Insanely Brilliant Space Geeks, PoliSci Geeks, Insanely Brilliant PoliSci Geeks and even Music Geeks - yes universally cool subjects can be geeky if you're obsessed enough!

^Damn it... Now that you mention it, I looked it up and it looks as though the 1 hour special from December was original two parts put into one. And they airing the first part tonight.

That is lame and sucks major monkey balls, but I know a lot of our fellow geeks missed it first time around so at least they'll be able to catch up, and there is a new episode of Avengers Sunday morning.

Just being nosy again, But who are you're favorite characters from X-men? Mine are Magneto, Jean, and Storm. Apocalypse gets honorable mention though.
 
I love Storm, Rogue and Gambit--but my all-time favorite is Jean Grey as the Dark Phoenix (I love watching the corruption of a hero--i.e. Dark Willow--or the redemption of a villain--i.e. Spike).

Iceman and Mr. Sinister... Apocalypse gets a close second in the villain category and Havok in the hero category
 
earlier this week i picked up my comics. with the holidays i just never got to the shop so i had about a month's worth of books. all told? $105 and change. i told the counter guy i've groaned about spending far less for something i didn't want but had to get. lol.

so what's the most you've spent on comics at one time?

New episodes of Smallville will start on January 28th and DC & The CW have released this kick ass promo poster:

If you look very carefully you'll see something very cool. Tom Welling himself will direct the episode that features Booster Gold and Blue Beetle (Jaime Reyes not Ted Kord) written by Geoff Johns. Also Allison Mack (Chloe), John Glover (Lionel), and Anette O'Toole (Martha) will all be in upcoming episodes in the final season of the show, no word yet on Michael Rosenbaum (Lex) though. It would suck if they couldn't get him imho.

If only the guys behind these games can get to work on Superman, who has never and I mean never had a good video game.

The big game news this week is that MMO "DC Universe Online" (finally) releases and goes live Tuesday the 11th, I'm curious if anyone has pre-ordered it or intends to get it next week. Also what format, PC or a game system? I'm still on the fence myself about it.

Anybody hear the news that they are re-shooting scenes for The Green Lantern movie? Some speculate that it's in response to the lukewarm reception for the trailer. I have incredibly high hopes for the film, but I was one of those who found the trailer to be a letdown, it seemed a tad campy and I really hated the way the mask looked on Ryan Reynolds face (I did love how Oa looked though).

I'll have another Week in Geek calendar up tomorrow, did you guys find it useful last time around?

Finally, not to step on the toes of others on the Entertainment forum here on JUB, but what would you think if this thread was merged with a couple of the other "geeky" threads found here like "Gay gamers unite" and "Comics!"? Seems to me like a lot of the same ground is covered, just something to think about.
 
I think cataloging the many different ways of geeking out is different enough to not merge. Hope to see more of how others geek out.

It's finished... however I am having difficulty getting my bf to take photos of it...either we remember at inopportune times or he's at work when I think about it.

I will get the final shot up soon. I promise. This weekend....
