Gay Rednecks

Who is Virginia? And what is her relationship to gay red knecks?

He's refering to this

Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus

By Francis P. Church, first published in The New York Sun in 1897. [See The People’s Almanac, pp. 1358–9.]
We take pleasure in answering thus prominently the communication below, expressing at the same time our great gratification that its faithful author is numbered among the friends of The Sun:
Dear Editor—
I am 8 years old. Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus. Papa says, “If you see it in The Sun, it’s so.” Please tell me the truth, is there a Santa Claus?
Virginia O’Hanlon
Virginia, your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age. They do not believe except they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, Virginia, whether they be men’s or children’s, are little. In this great universe of ours, man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge.

Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus! It would be as dreary as if there were no Virginias. There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The eternal light with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished.

Not believe in Santa Claus! You might as well not believe in fairies. You might get your papa to hire men to watch in all the chimneys on Christmas eve to catch Santa Claus, but even if you did not see Santa Claus coming down, what would that prove? Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that is no sign that there is no Santa Claus. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see. Did you ever see fairies dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but that’s no proof that they are not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the world.

You tear apart the baby’s rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived could tear apart. Only faith, poetry, love, romance, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, Virginia, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding.

No Santa Claus! Thank God! he lives and lives forever. A thousand years from now, Virginia, nay 10 times 10,000 years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood.

I rather appreciated, this extract:

Embarrassing as it is, I'm kind of attracted to rednecks.

Prolly because they are unattainable.

Well, except for the gay ones, but that kind of kills the image.

Help me play "Freebird", G... ;)

Well, I'm bascially referring to attitudes amongst the gay community about others of the gay community.

This is not really news, but I still think it unfortunate.

Who or what is "Freebird"?

You are referring to well entrenched, prejudices. Gays are as human, as the next human being. Or, so my experience, has taught me.

Of course. Doesn't mean I hafta like it.

The idea is to be flexible enough that you can look at a presumption in light of new information, and be able to readjust or realign your thinking/beliefs.

And no, not everyone can or WANTS to do that.

It could also be argued that the concept of freedom of acceptance, that we are always in a learning disposition, might well encourage us to embrace the thought that presumption is the necessary catalyst, in coming to terms with our ever changing attitudes, towards our life's evolving experiences.

Whether we want change happening, in our life, or not is not the issue. For change in our life is always occurring, as evidence that our life is creating its own realities, arising from our life's experiences. In other words, we have no choice, but to accept the challenges of our life.

It could.

I am far from that philosophical lacking the requisite cognitive processes or, perhaps, inclination.

Unlikely.

Your inclination (mood, or frame of mind) does not affect the life force, that is creating your journey through time. Your life will continue on its own way, whether you, like it, or not.

Of course we have a choice. Some decide to not accept the changes/challenges and fight tooth and nail against them, or, they just leave.

Resistance to the flow of our life's harmonious direction is the catalyst for an enormous amount of mental distress, and disharmony in our life. The consequences of which evidence the ongoing attempts of life to encourage us to continue embracing life's challenges. In other words our self created, perpetuating problems are clear evidence of our turmoils becoming our learning lessons.

There's several billion dollars industries out there caterting to that mindset.

Prozac is a comfort for those whose obsessive, compulsive personality disorientation propels them into the abyss of chronic depression, and hopeless episodes of self pity.

Hope is always at our side, encouraging us to grasp its hand, and raise us out of our self excavated pit of misery. At least for those who will listen too and implement the life affirming advice, from within their innermost life.

We are talking about, or at least I am segregating two aspects. That which is ongoing and occurs everytime I awake to the present, and that which is the higher cognitive, reflective, ruminative process in which the philosophers dwell.

It could also be said that the higher self, is reflective of the greater wholeness, that is never philosophical, rather creative in its willingness to assist, those who seek out such life affirming help.

Most people just get up and live their lives such as they are... some few have the epiphony that can be the open door which leads in a heretofore
unexpected, or even unknown direction.

That is the risk of living ones life to the full. To rise from our sleep and to wonder what wondrous adventures, life will offer us today. Life is a great adventure, that always points us in the direction of Shangri La. Of course the mountain peaks need to be scaled. The fast flowing rivers, need to be forded. And the ever present pit of self pity has to be side stepped.

I am of the former. Where we came from can be beneficial, and certainly interesting, where we're going is an unknown though it can be fun to speculate sometimes, but the PRESSING moment of the now is what captures and demands the majority of our resources.

The thought of the unknown has a habit of inviting us to keep pressing ahead, in the hope, that scaling the next peak, will permit us to view the green pastures of the valley on the other side. Then we realise there is another mountain to climb. But such adventures grow us into people, more able to cope with, and conquer our next trial. The trials of Hercules assist us understand that life is a journey, and our accomplishments are only understood, when facing our next trial of self approval.

My wished for boyfriend Justin Timberlake is not gay, but he is sort of redneck-ish...I think.

I'm not going to deny that there are those for how the quick gulping of a happy pill is a jolly good panacea for dealing with what they choose not to deal with.

However, I am also a proponent of the belief that for some, and not necessarily a small handful, there is some serious wiring issues going on that have their root in genes turned on or off and some pharmaceuticals are a necessity in dealing with such.

As bodily organs can be screwed up from birth, so too the brain and oftimes, pharmaceuticals can bring much needed relief and allow these people to live as "normal" and functional a life as is possible for them.

Not sure if you're implying such, but as I read the above quoted words, it appeared that your tone was less than sympathetic for those so afflicted. I hope that's not the case. There's enough red neck ignorance in the world.

Judgements on the life of others, is not ours to make. But treating the symptoms, does not heal the causation. That takes our personal intervention, and courage to rely upon our own inner strengths.
Hope is always at our side, encouraging us to grasp its hand, and raise us out of our self excavated pit of misery. At least for those who will listen too and implement the life affirming advice, from within their innermost life.
This is useless information and mere condescenion to those of us who have walked the very edge of the abyss hearing its siren call and indeed, those there are in such a space of mind that their not thinking rationally in the first place.

Ultimately this is the only way of conquering our inner demons. For to imagine that self reliance is the medicine of the past, is to ignore the lessons of the present.

Too many people just seem to think that either guilting, or inducing shame in such people, or minimalizing their feelings and state of being is the strong drink that will pull them from that edge. Such isn't always the case.

Our feelings are so often responsible for taking over our rational thinking, and directing them into a pit of self pity, where reason is drowned by the tears of endless rivers of self perpetuating, self indulgence.

It's commendable that you have such a profound grasp on the ebb and flow of life's existence, but often, the people that need help aren't in a place to be comfortably ensconced musing over text and philisophical ideas.

I am also a fellow traveller, and willing pupil, of life's lessons.

Grand ideas are indeed grand, but if there fails to be a practical connect between the idea and the people, of what use are they except as an intellectual exercise?
Like the famous Times crossword puzzle, that is for us to unravel. Patience and the right focus, predictable presents us with the solutions to our self inflicted wounds.

Festering sores can for some be a solace, whereby we are able to attract the compassionate, support that we need in our moments of isolation. But such sympathy does not heal our sense of hopelessness, but merely acts as a momentary boost to our self esteem. Self esteem - there's the key.

How can you be so sure, that he is not gay? His anti gay diatribes might suggest that he has some thing to hide. Conspiracy theory, or reasoned speculation?

^Honeybaby, if he was gay, I would have had, used, and dismissed his sweet, tight ass three times over! Because he's got it like that!
