okay, in hip hop/rap, being that it's closely associated with black culture which is also homophobic, homosexuality is frowned upon tremendously. basically, you can't be an openly gay guy and be associated with the rap community without living in fear because people are that homophobic. due to this, there are people that have to live in the closet where they try to front like they're heterosexuals but basically do their thing on the low. the music business is filled with gay people and hip hop is no exception. there are always rumors always going around about who's the gay rapper, who had sex with who, and things of that nature. last march, dj mister cee who works for hot 97, a globally known rap radio station, and has worked with known rap acts such as big daddy kane and the late notorious big, was arrested after being caught getting a blowjob by a transsexual a few blocks away from the hot 97 studios. this sent shockwaves throughout the rap world and even the general public about how homosexuality in the rap world as well as the black community was very secretive yet prevelant where everyone was wondering who was and who wasn't gay. most people would have never guessed mr. cee was gay even though if you listen to him talk on his radio show and commercial he does on hot 97, his photos and even his interview, one with a well trained gaydar will pick up on him quickly. despite the embarrassment and humiliation he experienced from his arrest, he still received much needed support from his colleagues and fellow rappers. some even encouraged mr. cee to come out the closet and become a poster child to stand up for gays in hip hop and in general the black community. mr. cee, however, decided to distance himself from the situation as if nothing happened and so did hot 97 and his fellow coworkers. in doing this, the well publicized situation simply disappeared and was forgotten by the general public. as the topic of gay rights reemerges once again due to the recent decision by an appeal court on prop 8 and more states allowing gay marriage, hip hop once again back in the spotlight dealing with homosexuality.

after watching this video, it's pretty much safe to say that erick sermon; rapper, producer and one of half of the legendary rap group epmd, may probably be chilling in the same closet as mr. cee and other rappers that have been rumored to be gay such as busta rhymes, p diddy, ll cool j, treach from naughty by nature, 2pac to name a few.

just watching this video, i just have to ask why is being gay such a problem in hip hop and amongst blacks in general worldwide. it's no secret that being gay in most predominantly black populated countries is actually a criminal offense which is punishable by long term incarceration and even death.

Getting a blowjob from a transexual doesn't make you gay.

I don't know a single gay man who would let a transexual blow him.

That makes him Eddie Murphy.

that's true but i think in mister cee and eddie murphy's cases, it goes beyond just transsexuals.

tell me that your gaydar doesn't go off with mister cee.

and you know, eddie murphy is GAY. him and his long time partner... i mean pal arsenio hall are gay. it's funny how eddie murphy sure made a killing making homophobic jokes in his sold out stand ups yet he was looking like a flamboyant gay man. him and arsenio dropping hints in coming to america where arsenio was dressing up in drag and eddie's character was dating him. don't forget about the time queer nation ran up on his show about to pull his card. i done heard all the stories about eddie, arsenio, and johnny gill throwing those parties and magic johnson joining along with them and him catching hiv from messing with somebody over at one of their special parties going on.

all i'm saying is it's too much of a coincidence especially if there's clues pointing around someone such as mister cee. even back in 2000, i knew something was funny about him because he talked really feminine like. not stereotyping but i'm just saying. some of these guys are gay and they think that nobody knows.

Because rappers are supposed to have a hyper-masculine image and "be the best." You hear it in ALL of their lyrics. Every rapper has a song about how they are the absolute best, how they get the most money, and because of these things get as many women as they want. Even rappers that are married with kids still rap about sleeping with hundreds of woman, because that is the cocky rapper image that they must maintain. A gay rapper? Automatic de-masculinization. Therefore, frowned upon. And no mainstream rapper image means no MONEY.

Last time I saw something about hip-hop culture and homosexuality was last year (?). Rapper Lil B came out with an album titled "I'm Gay" as in "happy," but to express his support of the gay community. First time I've seen support from the hip-hop community and I think it's a good first step.

yeah, you're right about that. however, times have sort of shifted that whole notion so what since the last decade slowly. rapper cam'ron tried to popularize the colors pink and purple and started using the word no homo which was an anti gay slur which indicated whenever the person using the word or someone else had a homosexual thought or said something that was perceived as homosexual.

kanye west tried to popularize a seemingly less than masculine, feminine, metrosexual image. at one time, he showed support for gays during an mtv interview during his late registration album in which he told people in the rap community to stop gay bashing. it seemed as if kanye was speaking it from a personal level as if he was sort of outing himself. it's a longstanding rumor in hip hop that kanye west is gay.

lil b is more of a troll looking for attention than someone that is making a political statement. it's hard to take him seriously. if you listen to some of his songs, he often makes little to no sense. his whole short lived fame circus is based on him being a joke where people say "thank you based god" or "that's based". that "i'm gay" album didn't sell shit either and was trashed by everyone.

I don't mean to jack your thread but I have to say, I'd never heard anything about the 'rumours' regarding people like Busta Rhymes, P. Diddy, etc. until I saw them on these boards. Are/were they actual 'rumours' or just one of the many 'every male celebrity is gay' hypotheses made on the JUB boards?

Just curious!

A little more on topic, I believe Kanye West made some comments a while back regarding the homophobia in hip hop and how he didn't approve or something similar...

yes, these are actual rumors that have been floating around since they were famous back in the mid 90s. it's well documented. wendy williams has been known to break these rumors out though back in her heyday before she became popular. she was the one that really started the diddy rumor. it is alleged that there are photos are of diddy engaging in homosexual acts with then protege mase who left the label and music due to personal problems involving gangsters and drug dealers in harlem. diddy has been long rumored to be gay. i've actually seen the alleged photos which appear to show diddy and mase doing a 69 on a boat surrounded by people. i'll look for the site to see if it's still up. update: found it. http://www.indiesent.com/puffy1.html

here's an article about rumored gay rappers and black entertainers in the industry.

The problem with most rapper songs today..they are not only anti-gay but anti-women as well.

I remember when Kanye said that a few years ago. it was cuz his cousin came out, so when he realized his cousin was still his family and he still loved him, he changed his views.

well, who knows if it was his cousin and not somebody he works with. funny how common had a song where he dedicated a verse on that "between me and you" song to someone who he found out was gay. it makes you wonder.

btw-there are very few songs that hit me in a personal way where it actually fucks me up but that song hits me especially that verse. i used to have a really hard time listening to that because i felt like it was talking about me.

Gays in hip-hop world sounds so weird. It's like having Jews in the Neonazi groups.

yeah, they do exist. you might as well say that about gays in the black community.

Here is a category of music I will never like nor do I find any connection with. I do listen to reggaeton and it does have its fair share of homophobia associated with some artists (like Baby Rasta and Hector El Father)... but other artists like Wisin & Yandel don't have anything against gay people (they've said this in an interview).

isn't reggaeton hip hop except in a different language? it's the same shit.

It just goes to show how stupid Hip Hop culture is.

Doesn't it?

Doesn't it?

No, it doesn't.

It does tend to bring the ignorant people out that don't know anything about the actual culture though.

Which is what I'm seeing here. This thread, besides being hard to fucking read(the OP I mean), is annoying to its' very core.

not as annoying as you always feeling the need to insult me every chance you get thinking you're being cute. #-o also not as annoying as me having to curb what i really want to say because i might get warned by the mods.

your whole entire gimmick is wack, man. go try your wack ass gimmick on somebody else if you feel you're so smart. you're trying to make yourself seem like your opinion and views are worth a fuck using me to help you out yet you really haven't said anything worth giving credit to. you're trying to make yourself feel smarter than you really are when the truth is you're not. cut it out.

no, what's really stupid is labeling a broad music genre as "stupid" when you don't even listen to it. The problem with people today is that they look on the surface, at popular music, and take that as all they need to classify the rest of it. I bet you've never listened to any underground hip hop.

^ Hey bud,

I certainly didn't label a whole music genre as stupid, did I?

Go back and reread my post. I'll wait.

Okay.

I said that the Hip Hop 'culture' as it has evolved is stupid. Which, because of the rampant homophobia, not to say misogyny, I am entitled to say.

You, of course are entitled to disagree by giving me proof that this is not the case..

In the meantime, I'll just go back to listening to the HH musik I enjoy and continue to disassociate it from the hyper macho dysfunctional testosterone saturated, big swinging dick mythology that masquerades as 'culture'.
