That is unfortunate, and really ignorant. "Saving America" clearly weighs less than your potential gay roommate. Why do straight guys automatically gay men want them? I've had the ugliest guys I've ever seen dislike my company because I'm gay. There isn't enough acid in the world...Some straight guys can be very deluded.

He's a little gay himself, really. This feeling of being "uncomfortable" comes from repressed sexual tension and projection. Most people who are comfortable with their sexuality would be able to handle a situation like that before it even becomes a situation.

But then again the media wants everyone to believe there aren't any gays or bi's in the army or airforce and especially not in the navy when there's actually a lot of gay and bi guys in the armed services. When will America stop believing its own lies?

Almost always....99.999% of the time, "No offence but" are the three words that announce a stupid idea like a chorus of trumpets at a royal coronation.. When you hear "no offence but," you know that a stupid idea is about to enter the room, in ermine-trimmed robes.

From my experience, straight guys really have no fucking idea how arrogant and stupid they sound they they say something like this. It's like if they walked up to a group of women and said "I know all of you want to fuck me", and was completely serious.

On a related note, I asked a bisexual friend of mine in the Navy what she thought of it and her response was essentially that it would in no way change the Navy.

I have a really good friend who is in the Air Force and he just came home from Afghanistan. I was talking to him about whether or not he is planning on staying in the Air Force as a career, or not re-enlisting when his time is up.

He knows I am Gay and he said, "No offense, but if they allow gays to be out of the closet in the Air Force, I will not re-enlist."

I was totally shocked! I asked him why...

He said that one of his room mates was gay when he was in Afghanistan and he felt uncomfortable because he was afraid he was going to try and mess with him...and I understand his concern because he is a very cute guy...but just because someone is gay does not mean they want to fuck every guy they see.

I also told him, "If a gay guy took a bullet for you and saved your life, would you still feel the same way about banning gays in the military?" He didn't know how to answer that question...

I didn't really push the subject much because of the other people that were visiting with us, but I plan on talking to him next time I see him to help him understand how stupid and degrading DADT really is for Gay people in the military. I want to explain to him how people are losing their jobs and sometimes even being attacked because of it.

I just wanted to share this with you guys because this is the thoughts from one of the servicemen on the inside...and I am sure a lot of them feel the same way as him...but we must work together to provide them with the truth and facts to change their opinions.

Well, seeing as how I have to sit through endless conversation about how gays shouldn't have rights of any kind just about every weekend over dinner with my partners father, I could easily relate his foul thinking to you if you want (especially on DADT). It's pointless though. I wish I didn't get an earful of such ignorance without the ability to speak up for fear of "ruining dinner". It's simply disturbing. Every argument he lays on me is laced with fear and hatred. Not to mention straw grabbing claims that he pulls from his ass. I've found this with everyone who is against gay rights.

Believe me, there is nothing to understand. Hatred, fear, hatred, fear. That's it. Homophobia is irrational like every other phobia. Yes, the opinions (like the op's "friend") are mind boggling but spare yourself the effort in trying to understand them. It's just fucked and unfortunate thinking as a result of ignorance, lies and fear.

Even a straight mans narcissism towards gay men is usually predominantly fear based and not so much about thinking of themselves as hot shit. Gay men are predators in the minds of some people and you don't have to be a hot man to be fearful of a gays [insert bullshit here]. I could go into detail about this, but it is a pointless mindset to try and dissect, as I said before. Fear and hatred. I battle it with fact and inexplicable truth. That is if they have even one ear open to me. But I have stopped trying to understand it. I hate headaches.

Bleh, I think I am mainly just venting. Dinner with the parents is tomorrow this week. One of these days I may bite through my fork and rip him a new one, but as of yet I have managed to just compliment the mashed potatoes when it gets heated between us.
