An interesting story about a group of our community we don't think very often about. I can't imagine how hard it is to layer a disability on top of being gay.

Tim Wakeman, 58, left, and Bob Hedlund, 60, both gay and both with developmental disablities, walk in Meriden's Hubbard Park. Men and women in their situation find many stumbling blocks to healthy relationships, because of the care they are under and because of the extra layer of resistance from society. Wakeman and Hedlund have found some help from the Rainbow Support Group, started by a New Haven gay activist. (MARK MIRKO / November 11, 2007)
