The last election didn't show much of anything. Obama received either 8 or 9 million less votes than he got last time. That's hardly a mandate. Romney got something like 2 million less votes than McCain.

All of which adds up to the fact that 10 million or more voters opted out of making a choice for president. That's not a particuarly encouraging sign for anyone.
