"Getting to know you...

all the way back to the 5th century, I'm a descendant of the 'Dal gCais' meaning the 'race or children of Cas', the fifth century king of Munster and progenitor of the Dal gCais

you?

I can go back definitely to the 1640s and possibly to the dissolution of the monasteries a century before.

Are you related to anyone famous?

Sometimes I like to imagine that Oprah is my aunt.

If offered to you, would you be the President of your country?

Sometimes - I do read "horror"scopes - try and figure out the balance between different astrologists.
Mostly use it like Fortune Cookie "Confuscious" advice to not go off half cocked.

I mean, if your going to go off, you may as well use the whole cock, right?

How about you?

Whatever floats your boat, it doesn't do much for me (unless there's a tall, dark haired -wealthy- stranger involved ;))

What did you want to be when you were growing up and why?

Originally I was taking Engineering Science courses - probably because I was good in math and sciences and dad was an Engineer.

Not where I wound up in life.

What do you like about the area you live in and what do you dislike?

Happy Birthday to some stranger at a restaurant while we were out to dinner tonight.

Sorry you don't have friends where you are now - but hopefully that might change as you're there longer.

Do you like this performance?

No, well I was till they started singing. I'm not a fan of the original, MJ was more my sister's kind of music, she had that LP back in the day. I was into Gary Numan, Depeche Mode, New Wave, disco...

What kind of music were you into growing up?

I feel like I've answered this question before -
We're big Doctor Who fans, also buy the DVD sets for Game of Thrones since we don't have cable.
Star Trek, the two Sherlock Holmes shows, Person of Interest, etc.

Grew up with 50's thru 70's rock, ballads, etc. Beatles, Stones, Doors, The Who, Moody Blues, Peter Paul and Mary, Chicago, and a host of others.

I'm not a super big fan of MJ, either, but I enjoy the way MHJR rework songs.

Movies that you like?

I'm a big science fiction fan. I got hooked on it because of my uncle who worked for Granada Publishing in the 70's gave me Triplanetary, the first of EE 'Doc' Smith's Lensman series and it blew me away (I was only 12 at the time). So I've always enjoyed reading Scifi and watching SF movies.
StarTrek and Star Wars are big favourites, Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind is in my top 10 fave movies.
I bawled my eyes out at Torch Song Trilogy, Joy Luck Club, Crouching Tiger/Hidden Dragon.
I love Hero, though I'm not a big Jet Li fan. I love Pricilla, Queen of the Desert and Muriel's Wedding and spent many an hour at the cinema with friends watching them.

A lot of movies I love because Ian and I used to watch a movie or a boxset of DVDs before we got the TV working in our bedroom, they hold such dear memories. Hairspray is one that springs to mind, we laughed and cried through that. Soppy I know but then I am.

What makes you cry your eyes out?

As you get older, maybe you get harder, or maybe you get more reflective.

I suppose I can be both.
Sentimental favourites of intense passion (not necessarily sexual - just intense feelings of one of the three loves) can bring a tear to my eye.

I shed more than a tear or two when our pony boy left this mortal coil.

What brings you intense joy?

Dr-B,
Welcome to Fun and Games - this thread is all about getting to know your fellow JUBber, so you're not intruding any more than any of us did the first time we posted here.

You've been on JUB almost as long as I have - I've just been a wee bit more vocal in posting. Let's see if we can get you out of your shell and posting all over F&G.

I've received the "call the night before" notifications for Jury Duty, but never had to serve.
I think I might enjoy it, but my employer isn't one who makes it easy to do.

My wife has been on both Grand Jury - a 6 week stint, and on regular Jury Duty that she had to go in for a day or two.

We sound a lot alike - although I have experienced the loss of in-laws and my dad. My mom is still with us - and we're praying on that one long term. More details around the F&G forum. I won't go into details.

Love them for all they're worth.

What parts of JUB have you been frequenting the most, even if you haven't been posting?

Hi Dustin (DR-B). Welcome to Fun and Games. We are mostly mellow here in the basement of JUB. LOL Enjoyed the game action tonight. You can call me Billy, Bill or Will. (*8*)

My parents are long gone but I have 3 brothers and 2 sisters with 30 nieces/nephews/great nieces/great nephews. When we have a get together it becomes a circus. People everywhere.

I have been a good boy. Only 1 about 17 years ago, seatbelt violation.

How far south have you traveled in your country?

I've been to Lake Havasu City, Arizona to the West - Blythe, California might be a tad further West but I only drove through on the way to Las Vegas.

I've been as far South as Houston, TX and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
Cape Cod, Massachusetts to the East within the country.
I live about as far North as I've ever been in my country - been out on Lake Ontario, so that's a few miles further, but Canada isn't all that far away.

Do you enjoy roasted Cornish Game Hens?

I suppose I do, it's been a while since I've had poussin.
I tend to believe that the older the bird the better the taste.

What creature comforts would you take with you to a desert island and why? (food and gear etc don't count)
