Yes I have. I became friends with a guy that I didn't initially realize was homeless, or soon to be homeless, he seemed like a nice enough guy. I made the mistake of letting him move into my apartment with me. Looking back on it, I think he was borderline mentally ill, at least it became clear that he couldn't function in society independently. He quit a job I helped him get, they let him come back after a week because they needed to finish a project. Normally once you quit there, you were off that project period. He was extremely wasteful with water. He would turn up the shower full blast and wouldn't get in until 5 minutes later, and spend a lot of time in there. Also, if he wanted a pot of water to boil, he'd turn on the faucet full blast and wait several minutes for the running water to get cold enough for him. Mind you, we're living in Florida, and it's going to take a long time for water from the Great Lakes region to get down here. That's how I got $72 water bills for an apartment. Then he burned a pot, and and made a childish sing-song "I burned your pot!" statement. Probably a punishment because I did God knows what.

I finally kicked him out when I discovered he made charges of $962 on my phone to the Psychic Friends network, with no ability or intention to pay. About a couple of months later I get a call out of the blue from a bookstore in New Orleans. Apparently he used me as a job reference without my knowledge or permission. You know they say you're not supposed to give a bad reference, so I hemmed and hawed and beat around the bush, wasting both my time and the lady's time. I probably should have been up front, and just told her the truth, "If you hire him, he's going to quit on you in two days."

Last I heard he was living with his sister in Seattle, which would be good for him, because he's someone who really needs to have someone to look out for him.

Are there areas of town that you avoid because they're too dodgy, perhaps because there are lots of homeless people there?

About the homeless guy story. I hear that mental illness and being homeless very often go hand in hand. It's hard to tell which one is the cause and which one is the consequence. That's why it is so difficult to help these people, no matter how hard you try :(

I like to look good, but I don't spend a lot of money on clothes. I find excellent bargains in thrift shops

I wish I could say a young Brad Pitt, but no. I've never been compared to a celebrity, so I don't think I can answer that.
