Giffords to resign from Congress

^^ I could make a very dark bit of Giffords instead of Biden humor but I fear no one will find it amusing.... sigh

The current governor is in her last term, a 6 year term. Yes, 6 years. Obama nominated our last governor, Janet Napolitano, for the Homeland Security post. And Brewer, as state treasurer (we don't have a Lt. Governor), was the second highest ranking politician so she finished Napolitano's last two years and was reelected to this 6 year term.

I would wonder what Brewer, an evangelical, really thought of Napolitano, a lesbian.

Brew is not an "evangelical" --- she is a Lutheran.

Good luck to you Representative Giffords! I wish you a speedy recovery.

It's remarkable how well she's done already. ..|

I hope politicians (or those pseudo-politicians) don't use crosshairs in their political advertising anymore.

Squeeze just a little more propaganda out of an untrue story. Shame.

I wish the lady well .. it appears she has a long, difficult road ahead of her.

Likely not.

But in terms of helping the ticket, right now she'd be great -- and I think she'd be a definite improvement over Biden.

It would also be a sign that the Democrats are ready to start honoring the whole Bill of Rights, not just pieces of it. She's a total flip-side from McCain, who doesn't like any if it -- something we haven't seen in Washington from either party in quite a while.

help the ticket?

how so?

people would vote for her because they feel sympathy for her?

not sure what her vs. McCain has to do with anything

and i didn't know you were a democratic operative

u learn something new everyday

Is there a strategic reason for her to resign now, as opposed to say just not running again?

probably. she's viewed as a hero, when she's really just lucky/fortunate (those there may not be much difference between those), and that would attract votes, but she's also still charming

from my view -- well, it's not easy to find a Democrat who believes in the whole Bill of Rights; I like 'em when I find 'em

It probably has nothing to do with politics. I'd wager she's moving on to the next stage of recovery, which is going to require a lot more of her time and energy.

Let the poor lady recover, she obviously needs the time. Politics can't be the most important thing in her life or anyone's life.
