Oh, yeah. She's 9 years old and she was firing an Uzi:

TUCSON Ariz. (Reuters) - A 9-year-old girl accidentally shot and killed her shooting instructor at an Arizona range with an Israeli-made Uzi submachine gun when the weapon's strong recoil caused her to lose control of her aim, police said on Tuesday.

They said that Charles Vacca, 39, had been standing next to the girl at the Last Stop shooting range in White Hills near the Nevada border on Monday morning showing her how to fire the automatic weapon.

When she pulled the trigger, the recoil forced her aim over her head, and Vacca was shot in the head, according to a Mohave County Sheriff’s Office statement.

At least the girl now knows first-hand just how dangerous a firearm can be. They really need to let kids be kids.

Wrong. The NRA recommends age-appropriate firearms for training. For someone her size, a little .22 rifle shooting ..2 shorts would have been appropriate -- though first she should have qualified with an AirSoft version to show she knew what she was doing.

I have little sympathy for an"instructor" daft enough to allow someone that age to even touch a weapon that experienced adults have to be trained how to keep under control while firing. Frak, even handling a fully automatic weapon should be restricted to people who've taken a special course for it!

Poor kid is scared for life and a man is dead. Terrible.

For those who didn't read the report, the girl's parents were on the firing range with her and her instructor. They're very lucky only the instructor was shot and killed. The girl could very easily have become an orphan.
