It seems AG Sessions went to visit the GITMO facility this last week. Comments made to the press and general speculation is that the Trump Administration is getting ready to keep his promise of filling it up again with 'bad guys'. Now my question is where from, most of the prisoners there were taken from Afghanistan and Iraq during the period when we were essentially an occupying nation. That condition no longer exists and I don't think we have the legal authority under international law to round of 'POWs' from battlefields that we are not the main forces on the ground. Am I wrong on there being a legal issue on this?

When has the US ever let a 'legal' issue get in the way of Gitmo?

Don't get too excited until you know what if anything is done.

We can only hope that the new residents will be foreign nationals and "POW's".....not Resisters and journalists.

It's sort of terrifying that GITMO is now under the command of an insecure bully. I fear we will see the most ugly face America has ever shown the world.

We need to abandon the gray area figleaf we hold about GITMO and close it or admit it is an American Gulag with all the stains on American honor and decency that implies. Declare these people are either POWs or criminals and treat them accordingly. There is no reason why they can't be housed in the US regardless of what status they are in. GITMO is a US territorial facility being treated with very questionable legal standing as an extra-territorial facility. The only reason to do that is to skirt the US and international law. It is an embarrassment to everything the US is supposed to stand for.

There is no reason not to use GITMO.It is now a modern facility probably less crowded and more humane than other prisons. We certainly do not want to place terrorists in prisons to teach terrorism to US criminals.

Prisoners are kept in isolation in US prisons all the time. There is no reason TO use GITMO. The negative impacts associated with it do far more harm to American and its reputation than good. Even the fig leaf excuse that they are POWs under military control does not require they be kept off shore, Ft Leavenworth is more than adequate to the task.

Isn't that where they do waterboarding? Doesn't that make it a government-sanctioned torture chamber?

I suspect he would like to fill it up with journalists.

I wish I was joking.

I'm sure Hillary would have been much worse though

Well said.

Comparing Trump and Clinton on each and every point is like measuring global warming by your local weather.

To the contrary...I am just parroting what I see and hear STILL daily.... so I laugh instead of scream...
