Glee! [merged]

Re: So I finally broke down and watched an episode of Glee.

their voices are so Aphex Aural-Excitered that they all sound like they're doing bad Linda Ronstadt impressions.

My Aphex could use a little Aural Excitement right about now...

I dunno, I can't bring myself to watch even one episode of that show...

Although I do like, um, whatshername... The woman from "40-Year Old Virgin".

I suppose if I were a gay 12 year old boy (again) I'd probably love it.

Re: So I finally broke down and watched an episode of Glee.

in this thread ... people trying hard to troll.

please don't tell me you don't see the blatant exaggeration and self-humor  no ... nobody has to like it, but if you are takting this serious you must be quite stupid ..

Re: So I finally broke down and watched an episode of Glee.

Do you like musicals at all, Jasun?

Either way, Amber Riley and Jane Lynch's voices are the only ones with personalities. The rest of them are autotuned to hell. And that sucks because Lea Michele's actually a Broadway baby.

Glee is like the antithesis of my high school, where no one fought the man when they were cutting programs for the arts, there was more racial diversity, and everyone smoked pot.

Re: So I finally broke down and watched an episode of Glee.

You should have watched the Madonna epsiode

Um.. that's the episode I watched.

Thought it sucked rocks. I was embarrassed FOR the people who like that show. Man, it was so cute I had to go run over a few house pets just to get the image out of my head.

Both of Lea's numbers were fantastic. I loved the Johnny Don't Run film, but Total Eclipse Of The Heart was just phenominal.

And, yes, the Let's Get Physical number was out of context and too long, but I still enjoyed it. Jane is quite a good singer.

The You Can't Touch It number in the library was one of the funniest they've ever done.

Re: So I finally broke down and watched an episode of Glee.

I've heard so much about it, but I've not sat myself down and watched any of it, what-so-ever.. What is it? Is it like High School Musical, except it's a series, rather than a film!?

Re: So I finally broke down and watched an episode of Glee.

Girls, you need to like Broadway musicals and have some knowlege of the musical talent there. And, why not just go on line and watch the pilot, which sets the whole thing up. The absurdity is the point.

I won't miss it. Too good. Too fun. And too original.

Re: So I finally broke down and watched an episode of Glee.

Nope. The jokes are adult oriented. It's not Disney-friendly.
I meant the concept.. Do they suddenly burst out singing, mid-sentence, and then return to conversation as if nothing happened?!

Re: So I finally broke down and watched an episode of Glee.

It's fun for what it's worth but....

If you've ever seen the movie "Election" With Mathew Broderik and Reese Witherspoon, it's exactly the same except with singing.

Re: So I finally broke down and watched an episode of Glee.

not really
No. As they're members of a club they usually have a 'weekly assignment' where they have to compose their own rendition of a song. Usually when this assignment is given the teacher and the pretentious theater girl demonstrate what kind of song to sing. The musical numbers in the entire episode then reflect the 'assignment'. If an assignment wasn't mentioned the musical numbers typically echo the character's current positions in life, which usually fall into a theme...creating a theme or genre type for the episode.
I'll download an episode or two, and check it out..

This show makes me hate Lea Michele. Way too much Rachel. if it was the Rachel show it would be cool. But it is supposed to be about the Glee Club or so I thought.

Um... Can we please not forget I come from a family of very accomplished classical musicians, was a vocal major the first time I went to college, was a minor pop musician in the 90s in Toronto and scored music for a bunch of Sci-Fi syndicated shows? I think I know about "musical talent" just a bit. If they can sing, you sure can't tell on that show and they sure can't act past Saturday morning TV quality. Mind you, with lines like "Your hair looks like you cut it with a Flobie" I'm not sure how much you can do.

I dunno... In this episode, they had three couples rolling around in bed fully clothed singing "Like A Virgin" and then in the morning, none of them had had sex and were all making excuses for why they didn't.

They did in one part... two of the characters just burst into song at one point and sang another Madonna song to each other while they walked through the hall that was filled with people dressed like Madonna's different looks.

Then in another part, the girls all just hopped up for no reason and were suddenly all dressed like Madonna in the "Express Yourself" video and were on a sort of Vaudville-like stage with spot lights and the music from the record just started playing. Then they were all just suddenly back in their seats.

It's fun for what it's worth but....

THAT's why I hated it so much. I wanted to grind Reece Witherspoon's face into the sidewalk after that....that..... erg.. (storms out of room mumbling something about where he put his taser)

Hahahaha, brilliant!! #-o I might have to watch an episode just for the giggles! But no, seriously, I'll watch it and then give it some crit.

*Goes to find Episode 1*

before this season aired, i had never seen glee. now i can't seem to get enough, i do agree with some of the comments that they need to focus more on a direction, i mean i love sue sylvester, but if every episode consists of her evil maniacal quests to rid of glee club, i'm afraid it's going to get old..hopefully they'll find their footing and the show will be an even greater sucess than it is now!

I would not mind if the show was just Rachel and Brittany.....and Sue thrown in there.

I read on EW.com that Brittany and Santana will be becoming fulltime cast members next season which means more of them!

I feel bad for the black guy and the asian guy.....sorry don't know their names...or if they even have names on the show. They are the only members of the Glee Club that don't have SOME sort of background story

Re: So I finally broke down and watched an episode of Glee.

I don't like Harry Potter. But I ain't pointing no fingers at you for being a fan. ;)
+
^Yes. And also, i need to find a way to watch this phenomina without forgetting that i have a vendetta against FOX for ruining itself in general(except for Sundays).
= Serious deja-vu. Wow, that's actually quite scary. I think I'll be going to bed now, cos that's really freaked me out.

LOVE this show.

HATED last night's episode.

What a mess. The show is normally contrived, but last night took the cake.

The scene with Emma in the teacher's lounge was absolutely uncomfortable to watch--what were we supposed to feel during that? It just came off as awkward, and it made her look incredibly stupid to be so manipulated.

Will's smugness was in top form last night, and the only saving grace was his scene with Quinn towards the end. Dianne Agron is consistently one of the best parts of this show. Her character is multi-dimensional, and the actress is interesting and incredibly talented.

Brittany saves any scene she is in, including the amazingly lame plotting scene where the c-listers are planning to be bad. I thought the library gag was embarrassing.

As was the Run, Joey, Run segment and the Physical segment. Really? That's what they brought a star like Olivia Newton John on for? And as BlackSyringe pointed out, the autotuning on Sue in that number was the worst the show has ever done.

With Run, Joey, Run, it didn't even make sense why we were watching all three males in the video until afterward. And there was no emotional honesty behind all three guys feeling so used and betrayed. She had them in a fucking video--she didn't have sex with them. If they wanted us to feel a little of the characters' hurt feelings, then we should have seen her plotting and manipulating all three boys. The power of the ending depended on the feelings coming out of this scene, and it was undermined by how ridiculous their reactions were.

Worst episode of the show so far. Every show has a bad one now and then--they better not let this become a habit.

Re: So I finally broke down and watched an episode of Glee.

gLee is very far from perfect: badly-edited voices, flaws in the story, and dominance of certain characters, but at least it's not the worse. For me, gLee reflects the old style exaggerated and cynical humour long gone since the TV is conquered by typical detective shows (CSI and its derivatives, 24) and whiny rich girls (Gossip Girl, 90210...uhh...).

And saying gLee is a musical drama is totally wrong; it's teenage story sprinkled with a little musical drama.

Ever since it's come back the musical numbers have been longer (equating to less speaking, equating to less character development in an already caricature-ridden show), the characters have gotten more annoying and they've added far too many guest stars. I don't believe the show will go uphill...god, and that gay kid is going to set back the LGBT-rights movement by at least five years.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this way.
