Golden Globe Drama: Isaiah Washington Says "Fa***t" Again!

oh ok, i wasn't sure cuz it sounded like you were saying ppl wouldn't care as much if the situation were reversed.. obviously ppl WOULD care, the difference being the whole thing would've been put to bed months ago, so we wouldn't NEED to still be talking about it.. but just to defend the JUB boards, there WERE michael richards, and mel gibson threads where members were unanimously embarassed and sickened by their conduct as well.. it actually made me proud..

Basically what I was trying to say was that, a lot of people were saying "If T.R. had called him the N-word he'd have already been fired--there'd have been a bigger uproar, etc." And I just didn't like the fact that people were trying to turn the tables on the gay/black issue, especially when in my opinion, the gay community at large wouldn't have cared nearly as much were it the other way around. With that said, I also don't think the black community cares very much about discrimination in the gay community either, and it's a shame--especially for a group of people who KNOW oppression and have seen it first hand for years. I just wish there was more cohesion among minority groups.

ABC just issued an official statement:

“We have a long-standing policy to create and maintain respectful workplaces for all our employees. We dealt with the original situation in October, and thought the issue resolved. Therefore, we are greatly dismayed that Mr. Washington chose to use such inappropriate language at the Golden Globes, that he himself deemed ‘unfortunate’ in his previous public apology. We take this situation very seriously, and his actions are unacceptable and are being addressed.”

and as you can see, no one even bothered to reply to this cause we all know it's true.

Hearing someone say 'faggot' doesn't enrage me. what enrages me is when gay men get all flustered over hearing some straight guy say it, after we've all heard it/used it 1,000 times...but yet you have nearly every guy on JUB fantasizing about the mythological superiority of the straight guy and describing themselves as 'straight acting'...turning the idea of the straight 'manly' guy into a fetish damn near, when the majority of straight men look down on gay/bi men.

you say you want me to be pissed, but I find that hard to do when there's so much hipocracy in the male gay 'community'.

and yes, I'm one of those people who uses the term in an ironic/sarcastic tone from time to time...so what? words only have as much power as you give them. The next time a guy yells 'FAG!" at you, dont get scared. My advice is to be just as vicious and threaten to rape him...that's what they're all really scared of in the first place, anyway....lol (j/k)

c'mon people, there's bigger things to fight for than name calling, that petition is silly.

Here in lies the really problem. Even the gay community believe in stereotypes. There's no such thing as "Straight acting" I am gay and I act like myself. And myself happens to be someone who doesn't own any madonna albums and has no interest in fashion, hairstyling or acting like I do. What give anyone the right to say anything is more gay than the next? Being gay means you're sexually attracted to men period. It has nothing to do with the way you dress or act or the music you listen to. And none of this has to do with use of homophobic slurs. A faggot is a bundle of sticks that's made to be burnt so when some one basically implies I or anyone should be set on fire no I'm not ok with that. And that has nothing to do with the fact I'm not a bitchy queen and that I find people who act like Richard Simmons more annoying than attractive.

You cannot compare the "N" word to the "F" word... The n word has a huge history and anyone who uses it should be fired on the spot. Don't get me wrong....it is a horrible word, but to compare the N word to faggot is indeed crazy.

No offence, but did you not notcie how many people in this "gay community" were disgusted with that sienfield guy's remarks?

That's a different situation, and he didn't just say the word once, he said it multiple times and in public. He also said other things that I won't repeat--that were even more deplorable the n-word itself.

I'm saying if it were this exact situation except flipped to be the n-word instead of the f-word, IMO most gay people wouldn't care, and would probably say everyone's overreacting.

Well, if people keep using the word "fag" like Isaiah Washington, then it will have a long history too. A line has to be drawn somewhere.

I suggest we drop this line of discussion because it's entirely speculative and we'll never know how people might react if something might happen or have any thing concrete to really base their opinions on realistic.

Well the word "faggot" has a history as well.

Faggot by definition is a bundle of sticks. That bundle of sticks was used to tie gay men to, and then burn them. Sometimes gay men would be doused in fuel, and even be used INSTEAD of the sticks for when witches were burned.

So it's a pretty disgusting word in itself.

Yeah, I had heard that. IT is a disgusting word and should not be used so freely.

He has issued an apology

"I apologize to T.R., my colleagues, the fans of the show and especially the lesbian and gay community for using a word that is unacceptable in any context or circumstance," Washington said in a statement issued Thursday. "By repeating the word Monday night, I marred what should have been a perfect night for everyone who works on 'Grey's Anatomy.' I can neither defend nor explain my behavior. I can also no longer deny to myself that there are issues I obviously need to examine within my own soul, and I've asked for help.

"I know the power of words, especially those that demean. I realize that by using one filled with disrespect I have hurt more than T.R. and my colleagues. With one word, I've hurt everyone who has struggled for the respect so many of us take for granted. I welcome the chance to meet with leaders of the gay and lesbian community to apologize in person and to talk about what I can do to heal the wounds I've opened.

"T.R.'s courage throughout this entire episode speaks to his tremendous character. I hold his talent, and T.R. as a person, in high esteem. I know a mere apology will not end this, and I intend to let my future actions prove my sincerity."

People have started a petition to have him fired

www.petitiononline.com/at343sh7/petition-sign.html

Yeah, okay. People need to just calm down. I'm not defending him, but I don't think any of these people have the right to demand someone lose their job over a situation they know very little about. People are taking things and running away with it. We have zero idea what is going on behind the scenes and I, for one, am not going into this thing with the blinders of Homo Solidarity. For all we know, T.R. Knight can act all hurt and demure on Ellen -- and then go to the set and be a mega cunt with his hags. We don't know WHY the explosion on the set happened. People seem to have it in their minds that all T.R. was doing was sitting there, minding his own sweet innocent little business, and here comes Washington calling him a faggot out of nowhere.

There are two sides to every story -- and sometimes they BOTH are just as much in the wrong. It's like two gang bangers shooting each other, and the one who dies is all of a sudden portrayed as this innocent hero all because he lost his life. That's why we're in so much trouble these days as it is. People running off half-cocked based on misinformation or a total lack thereof.

I guess it's sincere.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm not too inclined to just say "OK! Your Forgiven."

He has a history now of doing this and a prior history of being less than pleasant.

I bet about 95% of these cunts on JUB do, too.

Just for the record, Isaiah never called T.R. a faggot to his face. It wasn't said TO him. It was said to Patrick Dempsey, and T.R. only overheard.

That's why when he was on Ellen, he said at the Globes, that was the first time anyone had ever said it to his face.

And he should be counting his lucky stars it was as a rational and capable adult, rather than as a 8 or 9 year old child.

Or even worse -- puberty!

Tarvares it sure sounds like your "defending" what Washington said. In fact your coming off rather hostile towards Knight.
yeah, and it's ridiculous to infer that there's ever a legit reason to use that kindof language towards gay people.. we don't know the whole story, but i'm sure mcdreamy & co. do, and i think it's pretty obvious who's side they're on since this whole story broke because patrick dempsey was seriously ready to 'throw down' when isaiah originally made the remark..

Also Tarvares it sure sounds like your "defending" what Washington said. In fact your coming off rather hostile towards Knight.
Well, as far as it sounding like I'm defending what Washington said, that's your malfunction. I told you I wasn't defending him and nothing in my post said anything about my stance on him using the word in any regard. I said that people have no right demanding someone lose a job based on what they "heard" happened and should get all the FACTS -- which they never will, since they don't work on the set.

And even if I were defending Washington, I can do that and would do that if I felt it necessary. Who gives a fuck if it's the "popular" opinion? Washington is more than this incident -- as is T.R. Knight.

uhh... OK?

Wow... it's kinda sad that that confused you, sweetie.

Let me break it down.

Less than pleasant ---> cunty people have a heavy presence on JUB = my response about thinking that 95% of the cunts on JUB have a "history of being less than pleasant."
