Unconditional love and going out of your way to snipe others for harmless posts is a world apart. Just simple decency would be a worthwhile standard.
Play the bad boy. Get your jollies. Flame on. It's not like you share your life in any transparency on this forum.
Our OP has the balls to be authentic and vulnerable. Consider that an indictment.
There is no virtue in being authentic as a pretext for just being an dick.

Why would you leave your dog in the car while your at the gym? The only time i take my dog on a ride with me if i'm getting food though the drive thru and quickly returning home. Leaving your car running for an hour is probably extra wear and tear on your ac.
My brother left his dog in the car i'm not sure if it was running or not and someone called the police and/or animal control on him i believe he had to pay a fine.
This is why.
Would you ever forgive yourself?

I check on him while taking breaks between reps.
Admittedly I think the person who heckled you had a good reason to, for the same reasons that other people have already presented. They don't have context and there's plenty of reasons to be concerned about the safety of the dog. A sign would be good as would the windshield Rare suggested,
Mention that you check on them between reps because that's also a significant bit of information.
Why in particular do you feel inclined to take your dog to the gym? I could understand if the dog were in the gym but why have them with you if they're just going to be in the car?
I like that you do take several precautions to ensure your dog's safety, not a huge fan of the environmental damage but it's neither a hill worth dying on nor do I think I'd be able to convince you to care, but it does seem like a bit of hassle so I'd imagine there's some reason for doing it.
^ if he is a lab, or part lab he may suffer separation anxiety. It's very common in labs. My mother's lab is fine most of the time but if he's alone more than a few hours he'll start chewing his feet. You might want to watch out for the things in this article.
