Graphic Video: Full Saddam Execution Captured With Cellphone

I can't watch it. I've seen videos like this before... the beheading of Daniel Pearl? Jesus Christ. It's something you'll never forget when you see someone die violently in any way... I've never forgotten the Daniel Pearl beheading video, and I wish I'd never have watched it. So I definitely won't be watching this one.
 
Drew, thanks for understanding our position and for providing some much needed insight. I was wondering what they were all saying, but just assumed it was some sort of prayer for a man about to die. Interesting to realize just how wrong I was. I've wondered in my head for months what this execution will mean for the future of Iraq. While it seems relevant to sever the head from the serpent, one cannot help but wonder how many heads will grow in its place.

I didn't see the Daniel Pearl video, but I saw a soundless version of the Nick Berg beheading--well, part of it. I couldn't watch it all the way through and was absolutely haunted by it for days afterwards. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw those images. I swear I didn't sleep for three days.

This one, however, is much different. It's not gruesome in any way that would relate to either of those videos. Hanging is so much more...bloodless and "humane"...than the other videos. Still, if the Pearl video still follows you, I suggest you not watch this one.

Now that one I chose not too watch because that was just plain cruel. He didn't deserve anything like that.

Well, I debated about replying on this post for a while. I don't know if I can quite get my feelings across without coming off as rude, so I’ll be brief.

For those of you who are so upset the video was posted and allowed to be posted here, in my opinion you need to get over it. Like has been said before, no one forced you to click the link, and if you choose not to, that's your choice, but denying, or advocating the denial, of that choice to others is OUTRAGEOUS! Some of you are the same people that advocate freedom of speech and religion and choice all the time, and now that it's a choice you disagree with you're crying foul and want to deny others that choice of their own? That's the very definition of hypocritical.

You don't believe it should be shown, that's fine. You think it’s wrong the mods allowed it, that's fine. But advocating that others should never have been given the opportunity to make that choice on their own is not only hypocritical, but is just as ominous and despotic as denying people the right to choose their religion, to be openly gay, to serve in the military, or to hold their own political beliefs.

Those of you who I’m describing should seriously reconsider whether or not you are serious advocates of freedom, or just the flip side of the coin. I applaud the moderators for their decision on this. I think it is the right one. They too, had an opinion, that they did not want the material hosted on JUB servers, but realized that they could not make the choice that no one should see it for everyone here. So they came to the conclusion they did, and i believe it to be the most righteous one they could have come up with.




Now as to the video itself, it's not that graphic at all. There's no blood, no gore. The floor drops out and it's over. There is a close up of Saddam's face as he's hanging (at which point he is already dead). His body is motionless; it's not swinging or some other horrid idea of a hanging.

As stated before this type of hanging causes instant death. At the apex of the fall, he died.

And I believe as reported here, his last word was "Muhammad", as he was in the second iteration of a prayer at the time the floor dropped.
 
Yea, same here. He deserved a punishment, but not death. I don't think any human being has the right to sentence someone else to death, even for crimes like his. Now he's dead and nothing will change. Iraq will still break apart and will still be the #1 terrorist breeding ground it has been for the last 3 years since Bush's adventure to the middle east. This execution was just another sad chapter in this long list of American errors.
 
I feel sad someone actually posted this for everyone to see. Disgusting what some people would do. I mean, what does this say about us as a whole? If you could stand outside of the human race and look in and watch this, what would you think?

Hussein, a Sunni, uttered one last phrase before he died, saying "Muqtada al-Sadr" in a mocking tone, according to Haddad's account.

The judge said Hussein appeared "totally oblivious to what was going on around him. I was very surprised. He was not afraid of death."

I just watched the video again and now that the emotional impact of the event has passed, i am thinking that he was reciting prayer and he was interupted by one of the executioners...

at that point he seemed to start to pray again, but stopped and began to answer the guard as the door opened.

I'm no authority on Buddhism. But there are Buddhists who would agree with this:

What is important is the intention with which you view it.

If you feel your intention was not the best, you need to think very carefully about the general state of your intentions.
If you feel your intention was a good one---well, no one needs to give you any advice.
IF you feel your intention was a neutral one, seeing it will be somewhat harmful, somewhat instructive. Take something instructive from seeing it. In fact, take as many 'lessons' a you can from seeing it. That is, do not let a life, any life, resound without purpose.

Buddhism cannot be incorrectly depicted as a Way to be happy in this thing we call Life.

Same with me and the Daniel Pearl video. I'm sure I don't have to go into the details of what I saw, as you probably saw the same thing with the Berg video. The loss of facial expression... one minute there's life, the next minute nothing... absolutely insane and haunting. I had a sick feeling in my stomach for days, and I was also filled with an enormous amount of RAGE that I really didn't like. I don't like being filled with rage, and that's what happened.

I think I'll steer clear of this Saddam video.

First of all, I'm sorry if anyone was offended by the video, but I did mention it was graphic.

I didn't go looking for it all. The link was posted on www.drudgereport.com, a site I visit often, and I clicked on it out of curiosity. Several people here in JUB had mentioned in other threads they wanted to see the full video, so I just posted the link.

If anyone is familiar with my posts, you'll already know that I like to post links and videos...

If you were offended, I'm sorry, but the choice to click on the link and watch the video is up to the individual. All I did was post the link, and I did specify in the thread that it was graphic.
 
I saw that video about a hour ago and it seriously suck as they never show him actually being hanged... They only show him being dropped and then his face...

THats its. I never saw him hanging anywhere in the video.
