I think the soundtracks from Gone With The Wind, Lawrence of Arabia and Star Wars were among the greatest of all movie soundtracks. What were (are) your favorites?

(!)(!)(!)

I like the underrated soundtracks the best. Like Hellboy, The Mummy, V for Vendetta, Velvet Goldmine, 28 days later all had great music that doesn't get enough credit.

My all-time favorite is Once Upon A Time In America by Ennio Morricone . Also love the soundtracks to "The Last Emperor" and "Somewhere In Time".

Morricone's Good/Bad/Ugly; Out of Africa; The Moderns; 8 Women (Huit Femmes); Run Lola Run; Diva; Metropolis ( 1984 version by Giorgio Moroder); The Godfather; Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil

Anything that John Williams was associated with. Without him, none of those movies would have been nearly as successful.

The LOTR Trilogy soundtrack is also exceptional. Comprised of several great instrumental and vocal talents, among which are Enya and Annie Lennox.

A few recent favorite soundtracks (with a shout out to Netflix):

Almost Famous
Little Miss Sunshine
Notes On A Scandal (t/y Philip Glass)
Into The Wild (t/y Eddie Vedder)
O'Brother, Where Art Thou

To those that mentioned Ennio Morricone I would add the s/t from The Legend of 1900.

The Fountain Soundtrack. Lovely piece of work.

Say whaaaaa?

I was not expecting someone to mention this soundtrack.

You, sir, have incredibly good taste. How 'bout the movie? Isn't it just brill? I could watch it a thousand times.

Haha, yeah, it's awesome. I watch The Fountain every time I'm feeling down. :)

I go with Spiff for both LotR ost and John Williams works: "The long goodbye" (1973) is something unbelievable. A whole ost made out by only one song. :=D: Even the dorbell rings like that tune. ..|

But I add Michael Nyman's "The Piano" and Vangelis's "1492 - Conquest of Paradise". These works make me dreamlike for a (looong) moment. ;)

To Kill a Mockingbird,
the Bourne trilogy,
The Incredibles,
The Mission

Just too many.

This is nice Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence.... a bit on the gay side too.

Star Wars (OT)
Resident Evil: Afterlife
Dirty Dancing
Pirates of the Carribean
Jurassic Park
Indiana Jones
Star Trek: First Contact
Twilight (Score and Soundtrack)
Twilight: New Moon (Soundtrack)
Aliens
Terminator 1, 2 and Salvation plus The Sarah Connor Chronicles
Avatar
Yes Man
Chicago

That's all I can remember off the top of my head :)

Off the top of my head:
Amelie
2001:A Space Odyssey
The Lord of the Rings (the entire trilogy had great accompanying music though I am more partial to the elfin parts)
Titanic
Braveheart
The Pianist
Pan's Labyrinth
Slumdog Millionaire
Star Wars

Some of my favourites:

Star Wars saga (mainly eps 4,5,6)
Superman The Movie
Raiders Of The Lost Ark
The Colour Purple
The Mission
The Shawshank Redemption
Close Encounters Of The Third Kind
Apollo 13
Crimson Tide
Edward Scissorhands
E.T.
LOTR Trilogy
Schindler's List

No secret I'm a huge Williams fan as well, from the majority of that list. I love the understated and very minimal soundtrack from Saving Private Ryan.

More recently, I quite like Hans Zimmer's "Inception".

Mystic River
25th Hour
Fight Club
My Own Private Idaho
Blow
Requiem for a Dream
Black Swan
Inception
The Crow (score)
Lord of The Rings
Lust, Caution
The Social Network
The Ten Commandments
The Matrix Trilogy
The Doom Generation
Nowhere
Friday the 13th (the reboot)
