No offence, but why are you all choosing such middle-class crap?![]()
Maybe because some of us weren't taught to consider that an item's price tag was directly proportional to its desirability?
I was born solidly middle-class, and I guess I was brought up drifting towards the higher end of that. I did occasionally see some of the high end vehicles - I recall seeing Ferraris and the occasional Lamborghini. But I only thought they were cool in that "I don't often see this one" sort of way. I never felt drawn to one, or felt how cool it might be to have one. It was just "oh, don't see that very often, that's cool". In other words, it was pretty much on par with a Subaru Brat.
A friend of mine in college built his own car out of spare parts. It looked like...well, it's tough to explain. Imagine a Lamborghini had been driven until it was borderline useless. A junker high-end car, kind of. That's what it looked like. Soon after college, after he started making a ton of money, he got rid of it and bought a Lotus. (It was apparently a really nice one, too - he once walked into the parking garage, and found somebody leaning against the driver side window, trying to get a glimpse of the inside. When my friend walked up, the guy stood up and grinned embarrassedly - it was Seal.) And he drove me to some function in it. Was it a nice car? Definitely. Would I have rather been driven in his beat-up homemade car? Hell yes.
