Had to turn on the furnace last night

It got down to 2ºC (35ºF) last night. When I woke up this morning, it was 16ºC (60ºF). A bit too brr for comfort. I changed my bedsheets today as well. Off with the cotton and on with the flannelette.

Cotton sheets in those temperatures are okay until you move. I'm sure there are people here who know what I'm talking about. ..|

Yeah, we know, It's a balmy 6C right now!

Ahhh, livin' in Canada, Good times.

My landlords don't turn on the heat until mid-December.

You're in Canada, right? That is against the law (here in Ontario, at least). Landlords providing heat must do so well before mid December. In Ontario, it must be made available some time in October whether or not it's needed.

We fired up the old beast tonight. It wasn't that cold in the house, just very damp (it rained all morning).

So far, so good. It is working fine. Frost advisory tonight but I don't think it will frost (but will come close). Partner is covering his flowers just in case, though...

I'm still convinced that my occasional furnace misfirings are due to a gas delivery problem, not the furnace itself. I barely heard the thing kick on when I turned the t-stat to 'heat'. Just hate it when it decides to start with a house-rattling KABOOM.

Is that sound coming only from the furnace or from everywhere? If it's everywhere, it is the ducts expanding. That can be cured with duct insulation.

I'm usually too embarrassed to go anywhere without covering my flowers. ;)

My occasional misfirings and house-rattling KABOOMs are usually due to overabundant gas delivery problems. Especially when black bean soup has been served. :D

We had a cold snap a few weeks ago and the heat came on. Then it got hot again.

Now they are predicting another cold snap by the end of this week.

yeah alberta's had some beautiful weather the last month, but the evenings are definitely cold. i'm one of those retards who likes windows open 365 days a year too - so my energy bill is ridiculous.

Expanding ducks can be a serious problem.

There's a certain smell I love.

It's the smell of the furnace when it's first turned on for the season. There's nothing else quite like it -- that kinda musty aroma of slightly singed dust and air moving through ducts that haven't been exercised for months.

I HATE HATE HATE that smell. It is like the "red alert" telling me summer is over, and a few months of intolerable hell are about to start. The only day worst in the year than "burn the dust off the furnace" day is the day when I put the winter tires on the bike.

Hmm, I need to pick up a space heater for the office.
