Today I work I walked right into a conversation about a group of co workers running a half marathon and got invited. I said I wanted to run it, and bam now I have to get in running shape.

I have six weeks to train for this, but it's motivation to lose 12 pounds or more (go from 6' 172lbs to 160lbs), boost my metabolism, and give my heart wonderful cardio workouts.

The real question is what kind of running shoes, should I get? What's my track suit gonna look like?? I think I'm gonna go Adidas all the way, granted Nike is from Portland I really hate Nike. Furthermore the Adidas American headquarters is here in Portland, so I'm still supporting the local economy. :)

Fuck Me, I'm in a half marathon now. Has anyone ever done one? Any tips or advice, and really what cool sneaks should I get???

Yeah, I thought this was an invitation thread too. :(

In any event... GOOD LUCK with the half-marathon!!

Good luck with the run s2s.

Good luck, man.

Shoes - I like New Balance trail running shoes. My last pair were 804s. I like them because they're in darker shades (I guess the idea being that running off-road is dirtier and I hate shoes with a lot of white on them) and because they give absolutely fantastic ankle support, especially for someone who rolls as badly as I do in shoes. Since I've had my Newbs - I use them for running and karate training, in fact - I've had fewer back and knee issues than from the shoes I used previously.

Also, they stand up to wear and tear (running, general scuffing and kicking things at the karate club) because of the ruggedness of the design far better than my Nike cross-trainers did and held their shape and stability for much longer.

Hope this helps.

What were you smoking when you agreed?

But yes, the NewBalance shoes are a good recommendation.

Oh....and further to the title, is the idea that one runs a half marathon and then gets to fuck you?

No running shoe would say "fuck me" more than this:

As a rather intensive runner, I would recommend asics, nike, or new balance. Adidas offerings are rather limited. Some great choices would be nikes vomero or pegasus series shoes, and for the others, anything that suits your needs. It's important to determine if your gait is neutral, or if you require shoes for stability (in case of pronation, which is actually very common, and leads to the ankle rolling). There really are so many different selections for running/training, and its best to choose something that feels good, and then try them out on a treadmill or indoor track so you can see if they're any good in action. Most shoe stores should understand the difference between neutral and stability shoes. If not, its best to look it up yourself. Hope this helps

I'm worried about you S2S...

MAKE SURE that you have someone helping you with training advice...

I'm not sure that 6 weeks is long enough to work up to 13 miles...

I KNOW that you're in better shape than most because of all the walking you do -- but running can equate to injuries (sometimes serious) if you don't go into it properly...

When I ran -- I preferred ASICS shoes -- but that was many years ago -- I'm sure that all the shoe manufacturers have top level shoes available, so go with what works for you best...

GOOD LUCK -- and ALTHOUGH I'll be in town this weekend -- don't expect me to go running with you... [-X
