*just letting ya know this will have spoilers, so don't read if you don't want to know*

Has anyone gone to see Rob Zombie's take on Halloween yet? I saw it yesterday and the theatre was pretty much bare aside from about 10 other people. What did you guys think of the movie?

I liked it when I got out of the theatre, but the more I thought about it the more I didn't like it. I didn't like how the first half of the movie was about how Michael got to being the killer he is. It was so much of the movie that by the time it was Halloween and he was supposed to go on his killing spree everything was just so rushed. I don't know why Rob Zombie killed off Judith, her boyfriend, and the stepfather when that never happened in the original. Then he had Mrs. Myers kill herself, which I guess was ok because it explained how/why Laurie was put up for adoption.

I didn't like the whole ending 'fight' scene between Laurie and Michael at all. I thought it was way to drawn out and kind of stupid. Just like I didn't like how he dive tackled her off the balcony. I didn't get why she didn't shoot him and why he tackled her instead of stabbing her. And I definitely did not like how they killed of Doctor Loomis!!!! I was ok with Annie living though, that was nice because I always liked her.

It's probably not important, but I'm posting anyways:

Why was this out in August? It's not even close to Halloween yet! =D

I have no clue. He really couldn't have waited another month or something? I heard that he released it in August to try and rush it to DVD for the holiday.

Hollywood usually releases holiday related films too early. I have no idea why. I would think they would be much more profitable releasing closer to the corresponding holiday, when people are in the mood.

it's very simple.... SAW turns out a new movie every halloween and SAWIV would kick Halloween's ass! And it didn't want it's ass kicked.

The reviews at rotten tomatoes *really* ripped it a new one, and they are usually fairly reliable...

I sort of skipped through a work print of it, and if the theatrical version is anything similar... Wow, what a trainwreck. Zombie obviously missed everything about the original that made it so great: The subtlety, the nuances, the atmosphere, etc. It's like he went out of his way to trash every awesome aspect of the 1978 version.

The original is arguably the least gory "slasher" film ever made, so he makes the movie brutally violent. The original gives no reason for Michael to be stalking Laurie, so he makes it blatantly obvious that Laurie is Michael's sister. And what's with Michael talking throughout the first half of the movie? Totally ruins the whole "silent killer" concept.

Utter disappointment.

Sorry if this is a bit off topic, but isnt the girl who plays Annie, the SAME girl who played Jamie Lloyd in Halloween 4 & 5? Or am i retarded?

We knew when Rob Zombie announced that he was re-working Halloween that it would be different than the original. I like the original just as much as anybody, but I still think it was a good remake.

Adding a more complete back story on Michael Myers (rather than just the opening sequence in the original) added to the terror when he escaped the mental institution. I think the first half of the movie was sickening but not really scary. The final sequence with Laurie and Michael was the most suspenseful.

Choosing a former wrestler to play Michael was a good choice...he was huge! I also liked Dr. Sam Loomis. He really tried to help Michael, and he wasn't just some crazy doctor (although the original was a great character too). I was really disappointed with Laurie Strode's character. Rob changed it to a stereotypical teenage girl and it really ruined it.

First I'll tackle some question: the fact that Laurie is Michaels sister isn't revealed until the 2nd one, and yes Annie was played Danielle Harris who played Jamie.

It was ok I didn't completely hate it like many other fans, but many things bugged me about it. It felt like 2 separate movies, neither of which was complete. Laurie wasn't nearly as likeable this time around, personally I found myself caring much more for Annie than I ever did for this version of Laurie. Most of my other complaints have been covered. The original managed to be a great slasher without being so over the top with useless violence, the fact that Michael wasn't some giant etc.

I think I would have liked it better if a prequel was done about Mike's time in the institution with Loomis as apposed to a remake that felt like 2 copped up movies.
What I did like mostly had to do with some of the actors: I really think Danielle Harris should get more work, Brad Dourif pleasantly surprised me as the Sheriff (I didn't think he would pull it off), and I never knew Sherri Moon Zombie could actually act (I am now wondering how she could act with a better written script).

Overall pretty decent 6/10 for me.

I don't know about that. I think 'Halloween' would beat 'Saw IV.' Especially around Halloween.

The only reason the Saw sequels make any money is because they're the ONLY big horror movies to get released around Halloween.

I can't believe they're making a Saw IV. Saw III was one of the worst horror movies I've seen. Well, maybe The Grudge was, but Saw III is a close second, maybe a tie.

Well you look at the perspective then and now. Then it was a slasher movie (possibly the first truly great slasher but a slasher none the less) Michael, although he was the killer, wasn't what the movie was about. But although the individual movie wasn't about him the franchise is. That's why all these years later the movies got to be about Michael. Michael is Halloween. So they definitely invest more time in Michael now than they did then. And I think it's respectable that he tried to do something different by including more Michael back story. If he didn't add something to it well why even do it just go watch the original you know?

I disagree profusely. I'm not going to get into whether it's good or not but SAW is a live franchise. It's fresher, newer, and it's core fanbase is still in the key demographic. This is the what 8th or 9th in the Halloween franchise and it's not even a new movie it's a remake... it would get it's ass kicked bigtime

That's the thing though. I feel the remake is worse than the original. Halloween didn't need to be remade in the first place, just like Black Christmas. Many will agree that Halloween was almost perfect as is. I think it he was going to make a movie having to do with Michael Myers it should have been a prequel completely. The remake is 2/3 about Michael as a kid and then when it's time for Laurie to come in it's sooo rushed.

Don't get me wrong, sharing the backstory of how Michael became who he is was good too watch, but I don't think the backstory should have been as long as it was.

No I agree no remake was necessary. Halloween is part of the Horror cannon and I think it's kind of stupid to try. But if you do try at least add something new or unique. I think it's better they did that then that crappy shot by shot remake of psycho

If he was gonna remake a Halloween movie, it should have been 3, which inexplicably had absolutely NOTHING to do with the series. lol.
I saw the remake last night, it was eh. Didnt hate it, didnt love it. He shoulda left it alone.

horrible, it has no atmosphere, like the original does!, nothing compares 2 the original!

it is nothing compared to the orginal, after we get through micheal's story, the rest of the film just seems rushed

I saw it yesterday and have to say I didn't really care for it. I'd rather see the original again.

I saw it earlier today and think Zombie delivers the goods. Zombie's movies have never been subtle and I was not looking for any here. He has a no-hold barred 1970s exploitation style that suited the material. I enjoyed Sheri Moon Zombie's performance as Michael's mother. It was nice to see her play someone sympathic after her roles in "House of 1,000 Corpses" and "The Devil's Rejects". Grade: ***/*****.
