I like how, in lieu of any actual legitimate dispute with the substance of what was said, you guys are instead turning it into a formal etiquette competition between Hannity and the Congressman.

Who cares. I'm not going to lose any sleep about a member of government being less than polite to the people who've been helping to poison American discourse and misinform American voters for years.

Americans, generally too dense and emotional for actual discussion, tend to base their opinion of the performance of others upon the political views of that person.

The elected official is clearly lacking in terms of intelligence and argument, but that does not stop people who claim affiliation to the same clan from ignoring those issues. "He says things that I agree with, so he must be correct" Why is he correct? "Because I agree with him." (Or possibly, "because I disagree with the other guy.")

It is not anything that is admirable. However, what else do you want? Political knowledge is lacking. The "supporters" of Ellison likely think that his "first amendment" comment was appropriate or meaningful (it was not). They likely also find his enraged demeanor to be justified by the presence of the host (it was not either). He really just showed that he was an ass, but, for his supporters, he is their ass. They will never abandon one of their own, unless he agrees with someone from the "other" team.

Style over substance. This guy is an elected representative. Hannity isn't. Hannity acts like he is. Hannity tries to sway votes with misinformation and handed-down talking points. Hannity poisons the well of the American political scene. He's not a politician of different views, he's someone actively trying to give people bent and twisted views to get them to vote Republican and using one-sided spin and misinformation, most of it handed to him, in order to do it.

Hannity's someone actually trying to create the kinds of voters the Founding Fathers were terrified of. Misinformed, ignorant, apathetic voters who vote on gut, emotion and prejudice.

I agree Rachel would have done a better job. But let's bear in mind she's a friggin Rhodes scholar who's made a career out of engaging right wing shills and has years of experience doing so in TV and radio. So since you're not defending Hannity, what's the problem? That Ellison ripped into him but not as eloquently as Rachel Maddow would have? It's like when you said it was okay for us to dislike Tebow but we "took it too far." I don't get the difference.
