  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Happiness is being old, male and Republican

Guess I'll add my two cents. Didn't vote for either candidate because I disliked them both and consider myself independent. Vote for the person or the issue, not any party. They both suck. Thus said, I think more of my Republican friends are easier to be around as people (not discussing politics) than Democrats . Democrats always seem so bitter about everything. This is just an observation from reading this thread. Also, the posts sort of speak for themselves on who is being really ugly or who is just making observations. Anyway, we all better get along...just had another earthquake in California so we may be all in the same lifeboat drifting towards China.

>>>How they can be content in a country full of blacks and Mexicans and feminist women and still be happy is beyond me.

Two words, sir. "Gated community."

I wonder if the dinosaurs were happy when they were on the verge of extinction as well. Of course not because like the republicans they did not understand their days were numbered.

Its interesting that Portland produces both progressives and, well, assholes.

OK, the article was having a bit of fun with the research, combining the findings.

What was discovered is the old are happier than the young, men are happier than women, and Republicans are happier than Democrats.

There was another study I read a few months ago (can't remember who did it) on the male/female happiness comparison. It found women were happier than men while in their 20's, and in their elderly years. Men were happier in their middle years.

Thanks for the input, and thanks for taking the thread seriously.

My theory on why the Democrats are less happy. The Republicans are mostly pragmatic, realistic folks with a business, military, engineering type slant. Democrats are far more idealistic people who "dream". I think that it means they have more dashed hopes, and are disillusioned when their expectations aren't met.

I can assure you, sir, that a great many of the progressives in this town are assholes.

Perhaps, but not all progressives are assholes whereas all non-progressives are. Oh, and they tend to be slow and have to have things explained to them.

Especially since you, the author, had turned it into a three-ring circus.

No that would be you, bringing your CE&P bullshit about substantiation, cites, that sort of crap. You know, if you have a question about methodology, I say google that your own damn self. And don't shit all over another JUB-ers thread.....

Unlike the "progressives" who don't need explanations or care to analyze data. Why bother when they have a built in, knee jerk response to everything? Including broad generalizations of their opponents and infantile name calling.

Hey girl!:D

Sorry, no matter how you try to spin it, m.o.e. is an standard aspect of any poll. However, I let it go once it became apparent that you don't know what the m.o.e is. Just because we're not in CE&P doesn't give carte blanche to, ya know, NOT know what one is talking about.

I hope you're in higher spirits today, that you had a conniption on page 1 was not cute. Not cute.

You mean like the big shit you took all over my thread?

Sorta. :-)

But I'm sure I didn't call you an asshole or say you were cuntish, or anything like that.

Beautiful, Vannie. I think your parents are true-blooded, old-fashioned Republicans, not Rush Limbaugh Republicans who paint minorities (like gays and muslims) as enemies.

=============================
(I almost hate to put this after Vanman's beautiful post above)

Ignorance is bliss.

As you age you (generally) become more set in your ways, more confident that you are right, and less willing to take risk: all very Republican attributes.

Sure, I'd be happy if I believed Jesus was going to save me and the world should stay just the way it is.

I guess I'm too inquisitive for that. Inquisitiveness makes people have to constantly re-evaluate things based on circumstances. It's a lot of work. But it's better than being ignorant.

I know, and have know for longer than you're been alive, what Margin of Error is.

I just think in Hot Topics, if your goal is to whine about a poll you don't like, it behooves you, the whiner, to look up and prove any problems or errors in said poll. The OP, unlike in CE&P. needn't bother. Especially when he's linked to data from one of the nation's top organizations in the research field.

And, I'm feeling great, btw! :D

Girl how did you get earwax in your eyes? I haven't complained once about the poll. Questioning doesn't = complaining. I'm sorry you took offense to someone not taking one poll of 2,000 people as the gospel truth.

You've YET to address the fact that this poll contradicts the last two election cycles. So a poll of 2,000 is accurate but a national election isn't? PLEASE explain that one to me, seeing you bounce around illogic oughta be fun. :corn:

2,969, not 2,000. At least "bounce around" the correct number.

What does the election cycle have to do with anything?

Republicans know they lost, they can't still be "happy" in their lives?

Democrats won, but they don't tell pollsters they're happy. Why's that?

I think these are intriguing questions myself.

I already suggested that maybe Democrats were more honest when discussing their feelings, and that maybe Republicans were lying about being happy. Who knows?
