Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince trailer

My bf and I (but mostly, my bf) were extremely disappointed when the movie was pushed back from last November.

As many of you said, I think this is nothing more than greedy business....... but I do not understand the underlying logic !! (assuming there's one, of course). The first two movies were the ones who had the most spectators (in France, at least) and they were released near Christmas. But hey, I'm no part of the movie industry, so I guess I'm stupid and do not see all the ins and outs !

Yeah that's when Harry became Emo-Harry. I hated that too.

I thought Harry transformed and went all emo and menacing in the Prisoner of Azkaban film. And he hasn't looked back ever since, which is for the better given how he was a pretty moody PMS in the books as well.

I'm not a fan of emo-Harry at all. I'm not saying he should be happy all the time, but some of the time he was just too much of a drama queen. I think the 3rd movie was actually a little darker than the book if I remember correctly (which I may not be). I didn't think he got dark in the books until into the 4th book and especially after it because people started dying and it was obvious there was going to have to be some big showdown

As many of you said, I think this is nothing more than greedy business....... but I do not understand the underlying logic !! (assuming there's one, of course).

I think it's combination of seeing how much money The Dark Knight took in during the summer and some articles said that there isn't much scheduled for this summer as far as big "blockbusters." The move was announced in mid-August, after they had time to see what TDK did. And there was some article that claimed that WB was worried about the last 2 movies business since the book series is done. All of those seem to indicate they're thinking financially.

I can't wait for this movie; my favourite book of the series - they had better do a good job!

I like the decision to have the last book as two movies - should have done that already if you ask me. They leave way too much out. And I heard that they're leaving out some important things in this one... that annoys me.
They missed the whole necklace from the last book though, I'm wondering how they're going to get that in there.
I hope they put the scene in where Hermione shoots canaries at Ron. And I want them to have the discussion about tattoo's as well.

Has anyone seen the new character posters for 'Half-Blood Prince'? My favorites are the ones of Malfoy and Ron.

Oh the one where her bust had been enlarged? I remember that!

Is there a Bellatrix one yet? Helena Bonham Carter, Maggie Smith and Emma Watson are the best things about this movie!

Anyone really hate the new Dumbledore?

I would like the new Dumbledore if he didn't act anfry the entire time. He is much to harsh - he loves Hogwarts and all of its students; he should act that way.
He doesn't have the twinkle in his eye that the old Dumbledore and indeed the Dumbledore in the books had.
I'll wait to see how he is in this next movie before judging him completely though.

Well maybe they don't have a twinkle in their eye in real life - but that was how J.K Rowling described him.

I do agree with you, lets face it, no actor (apart from sir Ian McKellen) was going to be able to play Dumbledore in a convincing way. I also fail to see Harry Potter in Daniel Radcliffe. But there we go.

The Harry Potter films (particularly the first two) have never been.

Only the Prison of Azkaban film (directed with great skill by Alfonso Cuaron -- a REAL director) was worth a damn.

I disagree. The first two films were probably the most faithful to the books in terms of art direction, continuity and character development. Chris Columbus had the right idea with them. Granted, the source material was SIGNIFICANTLY shorter than the later novels but that's no excuse for chop-shop job they've done to the most recent ones.

The third film, in my mind, is the worst of the bunch. Not only did it have serious a serious lack of visual continuity and clashes with the source material when compared to the first two (students running around in street clothes at Hogwarts which is supposed to be a private boarding school, Hagrid's hut now being in an entirely different location, as well as many parts of the castle that were not in the same areas in the previous films), but it also watered down or cut out significant parts of the plot that made the book such an interesting read.

In my opinion the fourth film is the worst.
I enjoyed the third one because Hermione was in every scene. (well almost) the fourth one was really lacking - a) because of Harry's wig. b) because the whole dragon sequence was way over dramatic and not at all like the book. c) The yule ball was ruined with the rock band, I wanted the sweet ballroom bit to be longer. and d) because of Daniel Radcliffe's terrible acting after Cedric died. "He's back. He's back." Ugh.

You liked Harry's wig and terrible acting?

I thought No.5 was the best one so far but I am hoping that No.6 will top it. Judging from the trailer it will.

2 things I want in it?
- Hermione shooting canaries at Ron.
- The discussion about the hyppogriff and Pygmy Puff tattoos.

I think I've said that before but oh well. That's all it needs to have and I'll enjoy it!

I thought the wig was great. To me, it was the most Harry-like hairstyle in all the movies since CoS. I love it when it's all long, wild and all over his face. It's how he's supposed to look. In fact, I hated the short haircut he was donning in the OOTP movie (and seems to be rocking it in HBP as well). I mean they even cut the signature bangs that cover his lightning-bolt scar. In fact I don't even remember him having the scar or green eyes in the OOTP film, they completely strayed from the character on that one. But I agree that little ntipick aside, it was one of the best in the series.

And Daniel's acting has always been mediocre at best in my book. What gets him by is the strong facial resemblance he has to the book version of Harry; that helps me alot to forgive his shortcomings as a thespian.

I'm pretty sure Hermione shooting the canaries at Ron made it into the final film. I think I saw a clip of her doing it in one of the new trailers. I'm upset that Dumbledore's funeral, Fleur and Bill's engagement, and Rufus Scrimgeour were removed from the movie. How in the world could they cut that? What kind of satisfactory ending are they gonna come up with if it doesn't surround around a formal last goodbye for Dumbledore. Ugh, another reason I'm not sure I wanna go see this when it comes out.

Oh well, at least they've added Bellatrix Lestrange to the Lightning Struck Tower scene at the end. Even when I was reading the book version, I thought she'd be better suited for that scene than those annoying Carrow siblings and that other anynomous Death Eater (not the werewolf) who were supposed to be in charge over Malfoy.

I hated his hair in OOTP as well. Way too short. He had the scar though, but they have never given him green eyes. Never. Oh, except when he was being possessed by Voldemort.

Oh thank god! Someone else who thinks Daniel Radcliffe is awful! He does look like Harry though, you're right.

Yes! My favourite part of that book! (not really but something I wanted to see) have you seen Emma Watson cry in a movie before? She is really good at those.
Dumbledore's funeral was what got me as well. One of the most important endings for the book and for Harry as well, he fought to have the burial in the grounds. Then he comes back to get the wand and he already has it...
Fleur and Bill  Does that mean Fleur is not in it at all? She was awesome! And I want to see Bill, he's supposed to be the hot one right? And remember the beginning when Harry is at the Burrow and there's all that business with Mrs. Weasley and Fleur (or is that Deathly Hallows) Will there be a wedding in the final movie?!
Rufus Scrimgeour? This is just too much. So Fudge will still be minister for magic in the movies. I loved the whole you team up with the ministry Harry and we'll help you.

I'll still see it because any Harry Potter film is better than none even if they do ruin it.

I love Bellatrix! Helena Bonham Carter is awesome with her! I'm so glad the first actress got pregnant and Helena got the role instead! And Bellatrix is much more suited to that scene. I actually think that scene was just to introduce more death eaters that makes it more threatening because you know Bellatrix and the others are lurking about somewhere else. Other characters in danger. She's the one who puts the Dark Mark up as well awesome!

Do you remember in OOTP when she broke out of Azkaban? I thought someone had changed the movie, I was so freaked out by it!

Personally, I'm not too bothered about seeing the film, but I know the boyf will want to see it ASAP. #-o

daniel radcliffe looks so flawless when he submerged his head in the water...HOT

^ ^
He had (digitally altered) green eyes in the first two movies. I'm not too sure about the other two following, but they were in fact green in the Chris Columbus versions of Harry Potter.

Maybe they're saving a lot of stuff from this movie for Deathly Hallows seeing as how it'll be broken into two films. My problem with that however, is DH already has too many subplots and characters they need to cover. The movie might feel a little bloated and scatterbrained if they added material that should have been used for HBP to the Deathly Hallows story.

It's hard to tell what these movies will be like until they actually come out. I was doubtful when I first heard OOTP was only going to have a running time of 135 minutes when it's the longest book in the entire series. And yeah, they ended up scaping a lot of things I admired most about the book (Cho and Harry's disastrous date at the tea shop, Umbridge attacking Professor McGonagall during Harry's Astronomy O.W.L exam, and the full account of Hagrid's adventures with the giants), the final product still came out to be a rather exceptional film. I mean Umbridge has got to be the best character that's ever graced the pages of a Harry Potter novel. She's so poisonous and wicked that you can help but to like her and to stay transfixed on what rotten scheme she's up to this time. I laughed for days when she slapped Harry across the face at the end of OOTP. I couldn't believe that she didn't actually do that in the book. That was a classic Dolores Umbridge move all day.

I also couldn't imagine anyone else playing Bellatrix but Helena Bonham Carter either. She IS her. Whoever made that casting decision was spot-on. She's perfect at combining manic and delirious with sexy and elegant. And you need to have that mastered if one plans on portraying Bellatrix in a convincing manner. Helena is more believable as Bellatrix than Bellatrix was in the book.

Although I wasn't freaked out at the scene when she broke out of Azkaban. It was kind of hilarious to me. That and the scene at the Ministry of Magic when Voldemort possesses Harry's soul. I crack up laughing everytime "You've lost old man" comes out of his mouth with Voldemort's voice. I'm getting the giggles just thinkng about the image now.

Nope. Just checked, his eyes were blue in both of the first movies.

The thing I'm not sure about, is how the Polyjuice Potion stuff is going to work in Deathly Hallows... are they going to take that stuff out - I don't want to have all of Emma Watson's scenes taken up by character's that she turns herslef into.

All the things you listed were some of my favourites in OOTP as well. Especially the disastrous date in the tea shop. I like some of the stuff that they added in, it didn't take up too much space. Some of the things I didn't like were those stupid silent movie tribute scenes. Like Filch with the stepladder... makes me cringe.

Helena is more believable as Bellatrix than Bellatrix in the books! So true! But Rowling never really went into much detail with Bellatrix anyway, she wasn't really a focus. They have added her in scenes were she wasn't... I think. Well they have for this next movie.

I actually thought the movie has changed. When the scene came on it was pretty out of place. Just some prison and then Bellatrix licking her dark mark and giggling all freakily. Yeah, I was scared. I like the look of Azaban prison though, it was awesome!

I could have sworn his eyes being green in the first two. There was even a big deal about them doing so (coloring them in digitally) in Entertainment Weekly years back. Hmmm, his eyes were definitely green in some of the promotional pictures and posters for the those films b/c I'm looking dead at a few of them as I'm typing this in my room.

Anyway, I hated how they cut Harry flipping out on Dumbledore and wrecking his office at the end of OOTP. Could be again that even the filmmakers aren't that confident in Daniel's shoddy acting skills to pull off such a strong scene. However the short meeting Harry and Dumbledore actually do have in the movie just feels like an afterthought when that conversation should have been one of the main focuses of the plot. Hell, it's when Dumbledore practically reveals everything to him and all we get is that one bland line that he cared too much about Harry to tell him the truth.

As far as the Polyjuice potion scenes in Deathly Hallows, I think they will continue to execute them like they've been doing. Harry and Hermione will take the physical appearance of the identity they're borrowing but their voices will remain unchanged as to not confuse the audience. Personally, I think alot of that stuff will either be cut out or dramatically condensed. I bet they have them traveling through Godric's Hollow w/o the aid of Polyjuice potion in the film version. It's not like that's necessary anyway-Voldemort still manages to find them.

Now that is the film I can't wait to see. I can sorta pass on HBP, but I'll be the first in line to see how it'll all end on the big screen.

LOL. I have the films saved on my laptop and, when I had a look. Skipped to some brightly lit scenes and his eyes were definitely blue so I don't know... perhaps they only digitally altered them for the promotional stills?

I think I would have to agree with you, I think he went up a notch from GOF to OOTP though, but as long as he doesn't cry again I'll be fine. Maybe that's why they took out the funeral. Although they could have focused mainly on Hermione for that bit and it'd be fine. That was one think I noticed about OOTP. Ron's face was nearly always cut out of the screen. I think David Yates seriously admires Emma Watson as an actress. She was clearly made the star of this film, do you not think?

I want to see the 6 Potters. There isn't another way of doing that. Yeah, take out that polyjuice bit and just give them the invisibility cloak. That'll be funny. Having Helena Bonham Carter act like Emma Watson acting like Bellatrix in Gringotts! LOL!

HBP is my favourite book, but DH will definitely be a better movie. So much happens that is movie worthy.

Oh my god, I can talk about this all day long! Harry Potter is my favorite subject ever and when I get to talk about it with someone who's studies it as much as I do, I'll go on and on constantly until July. lol

Now that you mention it the Seven Potters is something I'm really looking forward to seeing in the Deathly Hallows movie. I must say, they really have their work cut out to make that scene as easy to follow and exciting as it was in the book. I don't even know how they'll manage to pull that one off successfully.

I wonder how they will end the first half of the Deathly Hallows movie. Like what part of the story do they leave off to go to the next one? Imho, I think the end sequence of Deathly Hallows Part 1 should be when Harry & the gang escape from Gringotts on that dragon. The end credits can begin while they're flying off into the sunset (similar to how they all look on the deluxe edition's bookcover). Then the next half can begin with Voldemort finally realizing Harry has found and is destroying all of his Horcruxes. Jiminy Crickets! That is how they should do it for real, I just figured it out. Thinking about it more and more, I can't imagine them separating the film from any other point in the story.

And yes Emma Watson to me is definitely the best as far as acting out of the main gang. Although I am a bit biased b/c Hermione is one of my favorite characters in the book, so I imagine I would have loved anyone that was picked for that role. But if anyone was to have a serious acting career after Harry Potter, it'd be her hands down. Who can't help but to fall in love with her when she's snapping off on one of the boys or acting like an all-around insufferable know-it-all? It wouldn't be "Harry Potter" as we know it w/o her.

Don't worry, I can talk about this all day long as well. The day me and my two friends went to see OOTP we got on the train and started talking about Harry Potter. We all have different favourite characters. Mine is Hermione, like yours, Sarah's was Harry and Tori's was Ron. So we walked from the train to the cinema still talking about it. Spent the entire movie in silence (apart from 2 women that came in and sat behind us... talked through the entire thing! Why go to the cinema if you weren't going to watch the movie?! Grrr.) And then we went to TGI Fridays afterwards and talked about it all through our dinner. And all through the train ride back home. Oh, that was a great day. July 17th will be another great day. The three of us are going as a group to see it again! Awesome!

If they keep most of the dialogue from that part in the book then the seven potters should be easy to follow.

I always assumed they would end it as Harry is swimming down to get the sword of Godric Gryffindor and the locket is trying to strangle him. It would just fade to black during that scene and thus the first part would end. I don't like that idea, but I fear that's where they will do it and then, when it resumes Ron will pull him out of the water like a hero. Haha! Rupert Grint is going to have even less screen time with Ron doing the disappearing act!
I prefer your idea, but isn't that quite a bit far in the book?

Have you seen the BBC film of Ballet Shoes? Emma Watson plays Pauline in that, her crying scenes are really good. I honestly think, if she doesn't give acting up, that Emma Watson will turn out to be the next Keira Knightley. I mean popularity wise, she's already so much more talented than Keira. Perhaps I'm biased too though, since Hermione was my favourite. I liked Harry to begin with - but Hermione turned out to be much more likeable and probably more realistic as well. I hate the "feel sorry for me I have to save the world" characters and unfortunately Harry is no exception. I think if someone else were to have taken the role of Hermione she wouldn't be as polished as she is now.

^^In all honesty I think they will end the first one when they destroy Slytherin's locket as well. Which would totally suck btw. Even though the great escape on the dragon was a way's back in the book, the first movie should end there. Part II should consist only of the Battle at Hogwarts and the aftermath/epilogue. In a way, I guess I want them to make DH feel like two separate movies instead of watching the same movie cut in half. I'm not too big on the "to be continued until next year" cliffhanger type of deal that I think they're planning.

Oh and I rewatched bits and pieces of the first two movies and you were right. His eyes are blue as the Pacific Ocean. How could they do that when his eyes play such a significant role in the last movie? Unless the filmmakers are gonna change Lily's eyes to blue, too. And another thing I noticed, they totally left out Sirius giving the two-way mirror to Harry in OOTP. That is going to cause a major plothole in the Deathly Hallows films if they can't figure out a way to incorporate it back into the story properly.

Also, I was reading this on a fansite I belong to so I'm not sure how true it is. But I read that they went back and shot the scenes for Dumbledore's funeral and it will be included in the final edit of HPB. They claimed to have done it as a consellation to all of the fans for making them wait until July to see HPB and quell the outrage that his funeral was not included in the first place.

I think I even read that Bill Nighy is playing Rufus Scrimgeour in HBP. They're keeping it all underwraps and his role uncredited as a surprise for the viewers.

Again, these are all rumors that I found last night but if they're proven to be true, it'll be like Christmas in July for me.

Yeah that would be better, making it feel like two seperate movies. I hope the leave the epilogue out. I'm sorry but that almost ruined the entire series for me. I can't wait to see the battle of Hogwarts on the big screen! Talk about epic!

Dunno, maybe they'll suddenly change them to green. Maybe it won't be about the colour - it has always been said he has his mothers eyes even in the film so maybe that'll make it significant enough? They missed out a lot of things in OOTP it's a wonder J.K Rowling didn't tell them they needed that stuff... I can't wait fot the Kreacher part in Deathly Hallows.

Well hopefully those rumours are true. It will be great to get something more for waiting so long, even though it should have been included anyway.
