Harry Reid’s Wild Speculation About Mitt Romney’s Unreleased Tax Returns

swing and a miss

the ISSUE is that the majority leader of the senate is playing fast and loose - he was probably on meds - he looked pretty sleepy in his partisan condemnation of general petraeus who was proven to be a patriot and a military genius

so please don't be lazy and msnbc-esque

thanks

I thought Reid always looks sleepy. Sometimes I wonder where the other six dwarfs are.

Lol, is Chancey being all outraged at the evilness that is Harry Reid?

And meanwhile Mitt Romney keeps not doing the one thing that would put all this bullshit to rest. The funny thing is - as I said in another topic - that it doesn't even matter if what HR said is true or not - and it probably isn't. What people who don't dig into politics the way we here do actually end up seeing, is some guy who has WAY too much money and doesn't seem to want to show us what he's done with it. He might be all kinds of legit (and I suspect he is probably on the legaler side), but that doesn't matter for voters when he acts like a thief who won't show his secret stash.

Appearances are 9/10ths of the game.

There is a reason Twit Romney isn't releasing his tax returns. There's something he doesn't want voters to know. Probably something that would land someone who isn't a zillionaire in prison. I'm convinced Twit Romney is an unconvicted felon as he lied about his Bain tenure.

Several years from now Mitt the Twit will publicly admit he's relieved he lost the election in 2012 just like McCain has done about his failed 2008 campaign. Romney is running on nothing.... he doesn't have a platform. No economic plans, no foreign policy.... nothing. He just wants this for his monumental ego.

I don't think it's possible to pay no taxes at all without cheating in some way, Chance. They have the "alternative minimum tax".

He may have funneled his income to a Cayman Islands corporation, and loaned the money back to himself. He'd pay himself back the interest, and escape paying taxes, but the United States government still looks askance at this behavior.

If it looks like a tax cheat, it probably is.

There's also a tricky setup where you can loan the money to yourself from a "business" that is basically yourself, don't pay it back, and take a business loss, somehow making a profit at it. It's not exactly kosher, I suspect.

If it were to come out that Romney didn't pay any taxes or very little for those years -- would it bother me?

Yeah.

I would want to know how he got around it -- was it legal or illegal?

If it was legal ... good for him. He would be using the laws that a Congress put in place for almost a century. A messed-up IRS.

Rich people can afford the lawyers to keep from paying taxes . . . . rich democrats, rich republicans, rich independents.

If we find out that Harry Reid was slipped confidential information from someone at the IRS ... then Reid and that person need to enjoy the housing accommodations at Ft. Leavenworth.

That's the same logic that people had/have about Obama not having or having an embarrassing US Birth Certificate.

Once again you approve of thievery done by using the law to rip people off.

Thievery is thievery.

Once again you approve of thievery done by using the law to rip people off.

Thievery is thievery.

Who is being ripped off if it is legal? Half the eligible voters pay no income tax, so they have no room to complain if others escape legally as well. The government has no room to complain about someone who follows the law. Calling it thievery comes from the liberal notion that our earnings belong to the government and any thing we keep for ourselves is stealing the governments money. Anything the government allows us to keep is "giving to the rich".

Ben you really make yourself look silly every time you try and tell us what the "liberals" are thinking and doing.

Because it's painfully obvious that you don't know anything about it.

Just a friendly public service announcement.

I have an idea, why don't you tell us where these liberals are who are trying to eat your lunch, and while you're at it please define liberalism.

(here's a hint, liberalism as a philosophy is not about socialism)

Such idiocy.

Calling it thievery comes from the libertarian notion that the law should not be used to rip people off, that the government's job is to make a level playing field and stay out of the way. Utilizing the coercion of the state to transfer money from the many to the few is actually more abhorrent to those who love liberty than the other way around, because the Robin Hood approach does not lead to tyranny, while the reverse does.

What the government can complain about is irrelevant; it's a tool of the people -- or it's supposed to be. If it's complaining about who gets money and using its coercive powers to transfer money from the masses to the wealthy few, it has no complaint at all; indeed the complain lies in the other direction, and the poor would be justified in invoking the right to insurrection in order to do away with those legal thieves, and reclaim what had been stolen from them from the recipients.

Calling it thievery comes from Christian principles, too. Not that the religiopublicans are very Christian.

Right -- it's about individual liberty, something the Republican party no longer advocates -- except on a "some are more equal than others" basis.

Republicans and Democrats are both control-freak parties. But the Democrats' current course is more tolerable than the religious plutocracy the Republicans want to impose via creating a new Great Depression.

(If they really don't get that their policies will do that, they're even less qualified to govern than if they're being hypocrites.)

Except we've seen his certificate but not mitt's tax returns. So it's ALMOST the same. Also, less relevant.

You've seen a state issued version of Obama's birth certificate -- just like one that I purchased when I couldn't find my original. We haven't seen Obama's original one -- but that's ok.

Jack Springer, the thing is, Obama's birth certificate looked fake only to the far right.

Everybody else saw them for the extremists that they were.

You might want to rethink what you just said.

Believing something that you want to believe when there isn't any proof ... just a bunch of unfounded rumors makes you look just like the birthers.

LOLOLOL

Oh Jack.

...Physician heal thyself...

Right -- it's about individual liberty...

Kuli you and I should start a party. We could call it Louise. We be fiscally responsible, promote civil liberties, freedom for all (even the brown ones, including the brown ones the US has shafted repeatedly in the last 300 years) an actual small government that did what it was supposed to do!!!!

I predict we would be very popular, then of course when we got power there'd be schism, strife and backstabbing in the Lincoln bedroom!!!

but would that be the end of Louise, oh no there would always be a jack to fight, a Ben to spy upon, a Henry to oppress!

Louise for president!!!

sorry Johann

doesn't work that way

and your "if it looks like ......." is so lame

but you're not senate majority leader so it's no biggie - u just don't like romney

reid's position is one of supreme status

and seeing that he's such a waste of partisan space is pretty depressing

as bad as john boehner is, he'd never do something like that

sorry Johann - you're the guy who signed up for the barney induced side by sided mitt and james holmes saying romney looks like a sociopath

so you've crossed the line of reasonability

and nothing u say from here on in has any cred

We haven't seen it because if Hawaii is like Oregon, you can't get a copy of the original without a court order. The court gets to decide if your reason is valid, a matter where I have no idea what they'd consider a legitimate reason.
