Harry Reid’s Wild Speculation About Mitt Romney’s Unreleased Tax Returns

She's wonderful that Rachel

And i'm sure the bit was grand

But it's off point

Just as if someone from Fox said that Rachel sucked cock or rather they heard she sucked cock well .....

Apples and oranges

Reid is a joke and birthday boy is desperate

How the HELL is it off point. Rachel is pointing out that onme upon a time, MIttens was the one "badgering" someone for their returns. What's good for the goose.......

Let's try to look at this rationally.
Mitt refuses to release his tax records. This could be for a number of reasons.
1. He has always paid whatever tax is legally due (and hasn't used sneaky, if legal, accounting tricks to greatly reduce his tax bill) but wishes to keep his private affairs private, even if he is running for President during very difficult economic times.
2. He has used every trick in the book to minimise the amount of tax he pays which, while technically legal, will make him look like a greedy douche who has effectively contributed to the dire economic situation America is currenlty in by not paying his fair share. He obviously does not want everyone to know that he has paid lower taxes than the average American voter as this will make him look bad and they might not vote for him.
3. He has been paying less tax than he legally should have, i.e. he has gone beyond sneaky accounting tricks into criminal tax evasion and he does not want this made public as it will probably kill off his chances of election.

If it is 1 there is no reason for him to keep the tax records secret as doing so will only lead to unfounded speculation which could damage his campaign.
If it is 2 or 3 then the likely reason he wants to keep them secret is because release would damage his campaign.

Personally I suspect reason 1 is unlikely, which leave 2 or 3.

As for Harry Reid, he does not come out of this well as he has effectively cited an unnamed source in order to paint an unfavourable picture of Romney. This at the very least shows him to be joining in the race to the bottom in terms of political smear tactics.

That said, if his source is genuine and Mitt has been engaged in tax evasion (i.e. criminal activity) then I can see why he would want that accusation out in the public domain. It seems like a stupid thing for Reid to make up as, if it were false, Mitt could easily counter it by releasing his tax returns.

Both look like dicks, but only one is running for President.

wow that's a little harsh, especially siting Fox as a credible source. I'm sure you're an intelligent person, just on the wrong side of the right side of the issue.

My theory, lame as it may be, is this: Romney will (or most likely will) release more tax returns but not until after he's been officially nominated at the convention. I think if he does so before then, and buying into the many speculations of what may be in them, he probably would not get the nomination (even though he may have the primary votes now). I don't know how exactly that works but I suspect that they would find a way to boot his behind back to one of his many residences and replace him with someone else.
Also, I tend to believe Harry Reid -- don't necessarily like his tactics, but I believe that he has a good source and there's something damaging in Mr. Mitt's returns. I also believe that as we near November, more of those facts will be revealed.
I really do think Mitt's goose is just starting to be cooked.

What's Romney hiding? There has to be some truth into these accusations. Even when Romney was running in Massachusetts he wouldn't release his returns. He refused to release them 10 years ago. He refused to release them during his failed attempt against Kennedy. He's been caught lying before so him lying about them now is no surprise.

Twit Romney is an unconvicted felon. For someone with a lot of skeletons in his closet he shouldn't be a public figure. He's more secretive than Tricky Dickie Nixon... another republican criminal.

While Rachael Maddow is obviously batting for the left there is one point to her examination of history.

In 2002 when he claimed "trust me I filed in both Utah and Mass and I am a citizen" it was eventually released and he was found to eb a liar.

In 2012 he claims he has paid a lot of taxes and is getting rather indignant about it... not enough mind you to prove anyone wrong by releasing his tax returns... I wonder when we find out he is lying.

My POV? The IRS most definately has looked into it but can't make public their findings. He would be audited if he was a cheat and that CAN be made public when court documents are filed. So then that basically means his lie is probably paying a lot... he probably paid such a low percentage it is a joke and would be very realistically exploited by the left. Of course if it is a process and the IRS is looking now wouldn't a wonderful October surprise be Romney in court over tax fraud. LOL... no win either way for Romney. I speculate he will deny it until the debates and then release just before the first.

As for Reid and his motivation? he has had it with a increasingly anarchist republican party and the inability to accomplish anything... at 35 years in Congress and now having reached it's apex to be able to do NOTHING because of anti-american republicans has to be frustrating. I imagine next year he will not run and will retire. So the barbs mean jack nor shit to him.

^ and just watch..... he'll quietly admit after all this mess he's glad he didn't win...... just like McCain said.

Badger away by all means

It was and is happening

"Then came Harry"

If u can't see the diff u never will

Cheers

The one thing that is absolutely certain is that the Democrats and the Democrat media will lie about and distort his returns. They have lied about Bain and invented gaffes where none existed. It would be a big mistake for him to release them and it will not hurt him not to. Non-Democrats can see how partisan and hostile the Democrat media have become.

Absolutely could not disagree more with that. This is going to be played up big time in the debates and the more Mitt refuses to release his returns will do nothing but give more fuel to the fire that the allegations are true.

I'll just leave this here...

the picture didn't take - so here it is

It's funny that you bring up the Mafia...

Ever see "Goodfellas"? I was watching it the other day and for the first time, I was truly struck by the scene where Sonny goes into a partnership with Paulie. Paulie immediately takes out a line of credit on Sonny's restaurant and uses it to buy contraband that he sells out of the back of the restaurant. When Sonny runs out of credit, he declares bankruptcy and Paulie's boys burn down the restaurant to collect the insurance money. Mitt Romney makes me think of that scene.

Probably true. But the lies resulting about his returns by the Democrat media would be worse. These are people who said Ann Romney was like Stalin. And falsely called Romney a felon and wimp, while putting a halo over Hussein.
Republicans will shrug if off, and I believe, most Independents. Since Hussein's campaign necessarily has to be entirely negative it has lost most of its impact. Reid discredted the entire scheme by lying that Romney paid no taxes.

Hussein means "good" and "handsome" in Arabic. Glad to hear that you agree that Obama is good and handsome, Benny!

as expected, Sun AM talk shows (NBC is down due to the Olympics) had the story going

Reliable Sources on CNN did a nice job of putting the story where it belongs - ON Harry Reid

Challenging Harry Reid – Reliable Sources - CNN.com Blogs

Howard Kurtz had on a panel and save for Bill Press who tried to filibuster the convo making it about tax returns at which point Howard filleted him with "that's a democratic talking point" ;)

IMO, Romney saying "put up or shut up" is so dumb - he should have his surrogates slice and dice Reid's credibility which is easy - but Mittens should stay above the fray - the next good political decision he makes will be his first

anyway, an intelligent look at the issue which is NOT Mitt Romney's taxes but the actions of The most senior leader of the Democratic Senate - who pulled a Joe McCarthy with his accusations

that's the issue

a secondary issue is that Birthday Boy is pulling the strings - bad karma has a way of coming back to you

a third issue is the zombie like partisanship of many here who are either too dumb (not likely) or unable to appreciate wrong doing when it's done by what they consider a member of their team

it shows a complete lack of reasonability or personal grace

check out Bill Press in the video - flailing - he's a host on Current TV which is seen by less people than those in CE+P ;)

Oh BTW, Bob Schieffer, hosting CBS's Face The Nation, who didn't get a tingle up his leg for Obama, but is a major fan, called Harry Reid's play a Joe McCarthy one - good job Bob who shows for those here that being a good liberal doesn't require being a douche

Most of the media is owned by corporations Chance.

BTW, if you can't see the similarity of Romney's "badgering" (there it is again) & Reid's, you never will.

All Romney needs to do is release them, like his dad did.

If he did & everything was Kosher, who knows, Harry might even apologize

Cheers guy. Hope it's cooler in NY than Boston.

I was out earlier today - too hot even for me - and I like the heat

enjoy Beantown

Most of the media shills for Birthday Boy so I was pleasantly surprised that Howard Kurtz shut down Bill Press's attempt to do dem talking points and not address THE ISSUE

and Schieffer showed that he's not part of The Walking Dead just yet

The best story I heard about Reid was that Reid's peeps gave Sharron Angle campaign funds so she would win the Republican primary, cause her opponent was a reasonable guy who would've taken Harry out in the general

LOL, I thought things like that only happened in places like Jersey City, where Mayor Frank Hague (I'm sure you know who he was, Chance) used to tell his backers "vote early, ......& often!)

MY best friend's dad, who grew up in JC, told me that the folks in the cemetary there (Holy Name maybe?) were very good about voting, for Hague!

To be fair, Nixon also said: "I'm not a crook. I've earned everything I got." We know how far that got him. This is not a problem that will go away for Romney and given the current media climate, this will only escalate once the debates start until he releases them.
